Image courtesy of The Pattaya News In a proactive move to address the increase in crime, Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukwimon organised an active gunman training session yesterday. The event took place at the Border Patrol Police Headquarters in the Cha-am district of Phetchaburi province, located in western Thailand. A total of 150 police officers participated in the training, which aimed to enhance their skills and readiness in handling such situations. Officials from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were invited to serve as course instructors, providing valuable expertise and insights. This collaboration between the FBI and the Royal Thai Police (RTP) not only bolstered the officers’ capabilities but also strengthened the relationship between the two organisations, as highlighted by the Deputy National Police Chief. The training session focused on various aspects of active gunman scenarios, equipping the officers with essential knowledge and techniques to effectively respond to and manage such incidents. The participants were guided through practical exercises and simulations, allowing them to put their newly acquired skills into practice. Photo via ณัฏฐ์ บรรทัดฐาน (Facebook Page) Dissatisfaction surfaces among Pheu Thai party members as Nutt Bantadtan, son of former party leader and ex-MP of Bangkok, Banyat Bantadtan, publicly expressed his critiques of the party’s political approach. He called on the party to openly support the winning party without having to join the government. Nutt questioned the party’s previous decision to join the government led by the Palang Pracharath party, backed by former prime minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha. He stated that the general consensus at the time demanded such a move due to multiple factors, including the need for a new government to quickly resolve the issues created by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). In a post discussing the current political scenario, Nutt highlighted that the vote counts in the recent general election showed a clear public preference for the winning party to run the country. He stressed that the Pheu Thai party should not interfere in the formation of the government by the winning party, as it did not garner enough votes to play a significant role in the country’s administration. What is Next for Thailand’s Political Future after the Election PHOTO: Pita Limjaroenrat - พิธา ลิ้มเจริญรัตน์ Although Thailand’s general election resulted in a heroic victory for the Move Forward Party, their bid to form a coalition government may not be plain sailing after certain members of the upper house (Senate) made it clear that they will not vote for the party’s prime ministerial candidate as the country’s 30th premier. Under the current constitution, the 250 senators appointed by the now-defunct National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) are allowed to join MPs in electing a prime minister in Parliament. This will be the second and likely last time they will participate in the selection of the prime minister with the lower house. In the 2019 election, senators joined MPs in voting for General Prayut Chan-o-cha to become prime minister. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to continue promoting recognition for Thailand’s culinary attractions this year. Most recently, it launched the Amazing Thailand Culinary City program in support of gastronomy tourism. TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya said Amazing Thailand Culinary City was designed to promote food tourism under the Bio-Circular-Green Economy concept. Restaurants are encouraged to develop a system to manage waste from raw materials used in cooking and implement the “zero food waste” policy when creating food for consumers. These efforts will contribute to the development of environmentally and socially responsible tourism that takes the local community into consideration. There are two activities under the program, the first of which is a business matching activity for food tourism businesses. The B2B matching will take place from May 31 to June 2 this year at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok and feature 36 culinary tourism businesses. The second activity caters to tourists who are attracted by gastronomy. The activity will be held in 4 provinces, namely Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Phuket, and Chanthaburi. In Chiang Mai, the activity will take place from May 19-21, in Khon Kaen from June 9-11, in Phuket from June 16-18, and in Chanthaburi from June 23-25. Addressing the media at Government House following the release of Sunday’s (14 May) election results, Thanakorn conveyed his appreciation for every vote received by the party and its candidates, particularly emphasizing the support from UTN supporters in his hometown of Nakhon Si Thammarat. He acknowledged that losing an election is normal and extended congratulations to the parties that secured more votes than UTN. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is seeking a pay increase for some 14,000 forest rangers, from 9,000 baht to 11,000 baht per month, from the Comptroller Department of the Finance Ministry, effective from October 1st. The department’s director-general, Atthaphon Charoenchansa, said today (Tuesday) that the current 9,000 baht salary was last increased from 6,000 baht on April 1st, 2013, which is not in line with the current economic situation. Given the responsibilities and risks associated with their job, he said that there is a big gap between their pay and that of other officials, said Atthaphon, adding that the incumbent Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Varawut Silpa-archa, is fully aware of the problem and would like the forest rangers to be treated and compensated properly. Thai senators come under pressure over PM vote Military-appointed senators have been coming under pressure from civil society groups after some vowed not to vote for Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of the Move Forward Party, to become the next prime minister of Thailand. Military-appointed senators have been coming under pressure from civil society groups after some vowed not to vote for Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of the Move Forward Party, to become the next prime minister of Thailand. The senators in question have said that their stance against Pita is because of his anti-establishment position, declared publicly before the election. Pita is in the process of forming a coalition government with Pheu Thai and some smaller parties, which could amass a voting bloc of 310 votes in parliament. Pita needs 376 members of a joint sitting to vote for him to become prime minister, meaning that he would need 66 military-appointed senators to vote for him. The Rural Doctor Society, a non-governmental organisation, issued a statement on Monday calling for MPs and senators to respect the voters’ choice, demonstrated in the May 14th general election. Overall, everything went smoothly, and he expressed his gratitude to the Samut Prakan residents who exercised their voting rights. As of 10.30pm, the Move Forward Party (MFP) led in all eight districts. However, complications arose in the area of the 8th voting unit, which is in the 5th Samut Prakan constituency situated at Fueng Fah Village 11 Phase 9, Phraeksa Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province. At 3.30am today, the unofficial results showed that the MFP’s candidates won all eight constituencies and topped the party list. Photo via TikTok @mumphung.tara The political drive of Thailand’s youth was exemplified by a resilient 19 year old who left the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital in Chanthaburi to exercise his right to vote in Thailand’s General Election yesterday. Staff at Bangkok Chanthaburi Province transferred Kampanat, aka “Boom,” – suffering from a severe allergic reaction – via wheelchair out of the hospital to the ambulance and escorted him to the polling station to have his rightful say in his country’s future. Boom’s mother Chuliwan said that her son fell seriously ill after suffering an allergic reaction on Friday. Knowing he wanted to vote for the first time in Sunday’s election, she inquired with doctors whether it would possible while he was still receiving treatment, reports CH3. The doctors informed Chuliwan that Boom was permitted to leave the ICU temporarily to exercise his right to vote so long as he did so under close supervision of medical staff who would assist him there and back via ambulance. Chuliwan proudly told reporters that her son Boom, who receives special treatment for autism, is responsible for not wasting his right to vote. She praised the staff at Bangkok Chanthaburi Hospital for making it possible.
