A mother from Nonthaburi, central Thailand, filed a missing person report yesterday for her Thai-Italian son who disappeared during a trip to Hong Kong last month, reports CH3. The young man, 22 year old Danilo “No” Benjakul, travelled from Thailand to Hong Kong with a friend on March 8 before disappearing without a trace, his 41 year old mother Chotika told reporters last night at Rattanathibet Police Station. He was scheduled to fly back to Thailand on March 13. When Danilo arrived in Hong Kong, he sent photos and messages to his mother via the Line application. However, Danilo stopped responding and hasn’t made any contact with his family since. Chotika said she rings and sends messages every day. Danilo’s mother said it was very stressful when her son suddenly stopped responding during his trip because usually, he tells her everything he is doing, “even eating or going to the bathroom.” Chotika said that Danilo recently finished his studies at university and asked his mother’s permission to travel to Hong Kong with a friend to explore and relax. In a few months, Danilo is set to attend his graduation ceremony, said his mother. A 55 year old foreign man slipped on some mossy steps and “broke bones in his neck” at Cha-am Beach in Phetchaburi province, Thailand, his wife reported on Friday. On Friday, the Facebook page ‘Beach for life‘ was contacted by a Thai woman seeking justice for her foreign husband who is still being treated in hospital after an incident at Cha-am Beach on March 19. In the late evening, the foreign man was walking along the beach when he slipped on the steps of the seawall which are covered in moss. She said there are no lights in the area and no warning signs to say the steps could be slippery, causing her husband to slip, hit his head, and break bones in his neck. Nearly one month later, he is recovering but is still at Ratchaburi Hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries. The woman said she wants the owner of the seawall project to accept responsibility for the incident. So far, there has been no remedy from the project owner, “who has changed the environment at Cha-am beach into a dangerous, moss-filled seawall,” she told ‘Beach for life.’ Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/foreigner-slips-and-breaks-his-neck-on-mossy-seawall-steps-at-thailand-beach -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Photo via The Bangkok Insight and Dara Daily Thai netizens criticised the Royal Thai Army (RTA) for their lack of empathy after a woman had to take her bedridden disabled son to report for conscription in the northern province of Lamphun. A former Thai actor, 21 year old Thanakit “Off” Wutthirothong, left the movie industry after a motorcycle accident rendered him disabled. A drunk woman crashed her car into Off’s motorcycle leaving him with serious brain damage. Since then, he has been bedridden and under the care of his mother, 49 year old Duangkamon Wutthirothong. The story went viral on social media after a video was posted of Off and his mother reporting for conscription. Thai netizens initially criticised Duangkamon for taking her bedridden son to the conscription site, but she later explained that she was ordered to attend by a military recruiting officer. On Saturday, April 8, Duangkamon explained that she learned last year that her son had to report for conscription and tried to contact the RTA to report her son’s condition. She prepared medical documents and a disabled identification card, along with pictures and videos of her son, to prove that he could not serve in the military. Despite providing this evidence, a military recruiting officer urged her and Off to report themselves to the premises. Duangkamon tried to negotiate with the RTA to avoid travelling to the premises, because of the risk of infection to Off, but the RTA insisted on their processes. BANGKOK (NNT) - Bank of Thailand (BOT) Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput has said Thailand’s economy is expected to grow 3.6% this year, adding that fiscal and monetary policy should prioritize stability rather than economic stimulus. Sethaput said, "The economy is resilient and is able to withstand multiple shocks." The Thai economy grew 2.6% last year. The BOT last month raised interest rates a quarter a percentage point to 1.75%, and has raised its key rate by a total of 125 basis points since August - less aggressive than many of its regional peers. According to Sethaput, the central bank has the tools to support the financial system in the event of any problems. When asked about policies being proposed by political parties ahead of elections in May, he said economic stimulus was not necessary at the moment. He said, "Fiscal and monetary policy needs to be normalized and prioritize stability ... markets are ready to punish policies that don’t make sense, that upset stability." Thailand will hold elections next month, with many parties promising handouts and giveaways, from cash transfers to raising the minimum wage.
