Since the start of 2023, 181 foreigners have been charged with criminal offences, mostly in Patong. Meanwhile, a 28 year old Dutch woman who was arrested at the Phuket International Airport for entering and staying in Thailand without a proper permit or visa. BANGKOK (NNT) - Over the past year, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labor collaboratively developed education curricula that correspond to labor market demands. The two ministries also launched an online platform to match fresh graduates with employers in order to improve job placement prospects and the likelihood of employers getting workers whose skills match their requirements. The ministries announced the results of their collaborative program to promote education and employment for students and workers at all levels. The two agencies had signed a memorandum of cooperation on January 19, 2022, for the development of student work capacities and members of the labor force at all levels. The program aimed to improve knowledge, capabilities and skills in accordance with national labor skill standards, with the hope of better responding to market demands and alleviating labor shortages in the business sector. As part of the collaboration, the two ministries established the Thai Mi Ngan Tham big data platform, which makes use of information on students, open positions and labor demand at workplaces. The Ministry of Education had been developing teachers and curricula in line with labor market requirements, while cooperating with workplaces for the latter to serve as jobs training sites. Labor skill assessments were also carried out. The platform now has data on about 600,000 students and the program has so far been piloted in the four provinces of Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya and Bangkok. New Study Highlights Need for More Exercise Among Thais BANGKOK (NNT) - A new study has highlighted the need for Thai people to exercise more in order to maintain good health. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1290520-new-study-highlights-need-for-more-exercise-among-thais/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - A new study has highlighted the need for Thai people to exercise more in order to maintain good health. According to Department of Health Director-General Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, the study was conducted jointly in 2021 by the Public Health Ministry’s Department of Health and the International Health Policy Program office, with information gathered from 78,717 individuals in 77 provinces. The report revealed that Thai people have become predominantly sedentary, with 76% of individuals sitting for seven hours or more each day. However, approximately 72% of them spend a sufficient amount of time, about 150 minutes or more per week, engaging in physical activities in accordance with World Health Organization standards. One factor contributing to the decline in physical activity has been the shift in working conditions, as the workforce has moved from the agricultural or industrial sector to office-based work. As a result, the risk of early death or non-communicable disease has risen due to the low rate of energy expenditure. Although some individuals exercise or participate in recreational activities to offset their sedentary office lifestyle, this is not always the case. Those in urban areas have more access to facilities such as walkways and public transportation, allowing them to spend more time engaging in physical activities compared to their rural counterparts. Dr Suwanchai emphasized that by increasing physical activity levels, Thais can improve their overall health and reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses. PHOTO: Khaosod Online In Thailand, it is a common belief that certain holy places or objects have the power to bring good luck and fortune, and this time it is a tree. This particular tree scientifically known as a hairy keruing was swarmed by hundreds of locals in a small town of the Khon Buri district of Nakhon Ratchasima after a merchant in the area claimed that he had won a six-million-baht lottery prize after begging for good luck from this tree. All types of typical Thai offerings, such as sweet food, red Fanta, flowers, incense, and three-colored fabric, were laid and tied around the trunk of the tree by those hoping to receive good luck and fortune. Fishing restrictions applied off Phuket’s shores from April 1 PHOTO: Commercial fishing boat Thailand Starting from April 1 until June 30, annual fishing restrictions kick in along the Andaman coast in Thailand, specifically including the offshore of Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and, further south, Trang. The objective of the ban is to allow fish stocks to recover during the spawning season, which peaks in June each year with an average density of 1,197 fish spawn per 1,000 cubic metres of water. The objective of the ban is to allow fish stocks to recover during the spawning season, which peaks in June each year with an average density of 1,197 fish spawn per 1,000 cubic metres of water. The fishing ban area covers 4,696 square kilometres, from Cape Panwa in Phuket province to Laem Yong Star in Trang province. While the sea is not entirely closed to fishing activity, only villagers with boats less than 10 gross tonnage in size and engines less than 280 horsepower are allowed to catch fish during this period. So the ban is aimed at the commercial fishing industry whilst not affecting the local fishermen who have been fishing these waters for centuries. The Department of Fisheries is emphasising that the annual fishing restrictions have contributed to a nett increase in the annual catch in the Andaman Sea since 2017. To ensure compliance with the fishing ban, the department will send boats to patrol the area during the three month break. Any boat found violating the restrictions will be fined 50,000 baht or five times the value of caught fish, whichever is higher. Public Urged to Prepare for Hotter Summer This Year BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand is preparing for a hotter summer this year, with the Meteorological Department forecasting an average temperature increase of one degree Celsius from last year. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1290411-public-urged-to-prepare-for-hotter-summer-this-year/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand is preparing for a hotter summer this year, with the Meteorological Department forecasting an average temperature increase of one degree Celsius from last year. According to Director-General Chomparee Chompurat, the North has already experienced the hottest weather this week, with temperatures peaking at 41.5?C. This hotter-than-usual weather pattern is also forecast to prevail over most areas in upper Thailand at least until the end of March. The summer season in Thailand is expected to last until mid-May. Bangkok and its surrounding provinces will likely experience peak temperatures of 38-39?C. Chomparee noted, however, that this year’s cool season in Thailand lasted two weeks longer than its usual timeframe. Typically ending in mid-February, the cool season concluded earlier this month, in part due to cold snaps moving south from China. To avoid heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses, the weather bureau has advised people in upper Thailand to take precautions and avoid prolonged periods of time outdoors. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and avoiding being outside during the hottest times of the day are recommended measures for staying safe during the hotter summer.
