  1. PHOTO: Matichon A Phuket tour bus that had been on its way to pick up nurses and other staff at Patong Hospital has slammed into a power pole on Patong Hill. The bus, which was empty apart from the driver, was one of 3 vehicles chartered to take Patong Hospital staff to Khao Lak, according to a Phuket News report. The driver of one of the other buses, named as Mr Pan, has blamed brake failure for the incident, in which the bus ploughed into a power pole while travelling down the hill into Patong early this morning. The accident happened on the last curve on Phra Baramee Road at around 5.00am. Rescue workers from the Kusodharm Foundation, as well as Patong police officers, arrived at the scene to find the Phiphairat Tour bus had come to a stop by a concrete wall. The bus had narrowly avoided crashing into the wall, having felled a power pole and taken out a nearby government CCTV camera. The vehicle was badly damaged, with the driver’s door torn off in the incident. The 8 month old baby, known as “Nong Tor”, is now known to be dead, after his mother confessed that he died while in her care in the district of Bang Len. The mother has told investigating officers that she placed the boy’s body in a canal, following his death. Deputy national police chief Surachate Hakparn says there is a chance the baby’s body has already been eaten by reptiles. However, he says there does not have to be a body in order for a murder case to proceed. According to Surachate, investigating officers believe they have enough sufficient evidence, including statements made by the mother, to charge her and 3 other suspects. The deputy national police chief says the investigation has now concluded and the case will be forwarded to the public prosecution. 15. BANGKOK (NNT) - Phuket and the Northeastern provinces of Thailand have been included on the TIME magazine’s list of “The World’s Greatest Places of 2023”. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the list, which showcases 50 extraordinary destinations to explore, describes Phuket as one of Thailand’s most visited places and is known for its famed beaches. Phuket has increased its family appeal with the grand opening of Carnival Magic, a culturally-focused theme park last September. The island province is also drawing more visitors to its uncrowded countryside with an impressive landscape of modern luxury lodges. The TIME list mentions Isan for the region’s diverse and delicious culinary options. It also mentions that those who venture to this off-the-beaten-path region of Thailand teeming with rice fields are rewarded with national parks, temple ruins, and Michelin-recommended restaurants. Last year marked the 60th anniversary of Thailand’s first national park, Khao Yai, which sits largely in Nakhon Ratchasima province and is home to elephants, gibbons, and Asian black bears. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn stated that having not just one, but two destinations, in this prestigious compilation of worldwide destinations is an honor and something that everyone in the country can be proud of. He went on to say that Thailand is ready to welcome travelers from all around the world as part of the "Visit Thailand Year 2023: Incredible New Chapters" campaign."
