Thailand’s police inspector-general, Pol Gen Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, has ordered all provincial police bureaux to conduct random checks of the physical and mental health of the men in every police station, in an attempt to ensure that they are healthy to avoid a repeat of the recent armed stand-off in Bangkok’s Sai Ma area involving an officer. In the incident, a police officer with reported psychiatric problems shot at his house with a handgun and then engaged in an armed stand-off with police for about 27 hours, which began on Tuesday morning. At noon yesterday (Wednesday) police decided to storm the house to disarm him. The officer was shot and taken to Bhumibol Hospital, where he died last night from his wounds. In addition to the random health checks, police should encourage members of the public to report any police officers who appear to have psychiatric disorders. According to the TAT, the episodes featuring the southern province will air on ABC on March 20 and 27 and will be available the following day on the streaming platform Hulu. "The Bachelor" is ABC’s hit primetime reality show where one single and eligible gentleman is given the opportunity to embark on a romantic journey in search of his soul mate. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a campaign called "Choose Your Nutritious School Meals" that allows schoolchildren to vote for their breakfast and lunch menus. The program, in partnership with school meal ingredients supplier, Be Genius, was launched at Surao Siro School (Rat Samakkhi) in Saphan Sung district, with Deputy Bangkok Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon presiding over the launching ceremony. The campaign seeks to encourage children to learn about the democratic process by allowing them to vote for meals, similar to the voting procedure for the upcoming general election. The schoolchildren cast their votes for 12 breakfast menus and 15 lunch menus, and the menus with the highest votes will be served from March 21 onwards. Organizers added that all menus presented at the event are in compliance with Thai School Lunch for BMA standards for nutrition and quantity based on age group. The Bangkok Deputy Governor expressed hopes that the campaign will serve as a model for other schools in the metropolitan area, while emphasizing that the campaign is not just about selecting the lowest bidder as a food provider, but about meeting quality and nutritional standards. BANGKOK (NNT) - A recent increase in gold prices has led to some people selling off the gold they were holding for cash, while some investors have turned to gold as an option to diversify risks. The Gold Traders Association says the gold price may continue to increase slightly, but the situation will not affect the liquidity of gold traders in the country. The Gold Traders Association expects gold prices in Thailand to continue rising slightly, following a recent increase of 700 baht per 15.16 grams of gold in the past couple of days. Its President Jitti Tangsithpakdi said the recent price increase was fuelled by an investment shift towards gold by investors across the globe, following the banking crisis in the United States. Such an increase has many people in Thailand rushing to gold shops. Jitti said some people have however opted to purchase gold as an alternative investment option. A gold retailer Ausiris has introduced the new Gold Shop Next Gen concept for customers looking for jewelry, enabling online transactions and a new gold savings service to meet the changing demand.
