Chief of Thailand’s Parliamentary Committee on Corruption Prevention and Suppression, Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, received a complaint on Thursday seeking an investigation of members of the Senate and their appointment of family members as assistants. Submitted by Thai Sang Thai Party’s communications director, Treerat Sirichantaropas, the complaint sought a ruling on whether the practice was against the Senate ethics code or the Constitution. The complaint follows controversy surrounding the appointment of House members’ assistants, a number of whom were found to be relatives of the members. It raises a question of whether this was nepotism at the expense of the taxpayer. Bangkok Proposes Budget for Scout Uniform Procurements The Bangkok governor has suggested that a budget be set aside to finance the handout of boy scout and girl guide uniforms to children in families facing financial difficulties. The Bangkok governor has suggested that a budget be set aside to finance the handout of boy scout and girl guide uniforms to children in families facing financial difficulties. Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Interior Suthipon Julacharoen signed an order on June 22, instructing provincial governors to work with local education authorities in surveying schoolchildren in need and providing them with free boy scout and girl guide uniforms. The head of the Interior Ministry officials’ housewives association in each province would assist in the procurement of free uniforms. Provinces with limited financial resources have been asked to notify the ministry so that funds can be mobilized to subsidize uniform procurement for free distribution. In response to the ministry’s order, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will follow the directives but suggested funding be set aside for the procurement as well. He added that the BMA has already allocated funds to purchase school uniforms in order to help children in need, but boy scout and girl guide uniforms are more expensive than normal school uniforms and need further consideration. In response to public suggestions that students wear regular uniforms with scarves and woggles on scout days, the Bangkok governor said officials will look into these options because he believes the core of scout training for children is primarily about discipline. He also said the BMA will negotiate to reach an understanding between both sides and that he believes the issue can be resolved without complications. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-29 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. A man receives a Covid-19 vaccine shot in HCMC. Photo by VnExpress/Quynh Tran People should sign forms for refusing Covid-19 vaccination to "highlight their responsibilities" in the Covid-19 fight, the General Department of Preventive Medicine said. "Covid-19 vaccination is a requirement in the pandemic fight. As such, people need to get vaccinated as per existing regulations and at the right doses. The fact that localities are requesting people to sign forms to ‘take responsibility’ is to show their responsibility to the people," Phan Trong Lan, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine, told press Monday. The statement was made as Covid-19 vaccination was slowing down in several regions, with many people refusing to get booster shots since they've already developed certain degrees of immunity from their previous shots and Covid-19 infections. Philstar.com / Irish Lising, file MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education should make improving literacy and numeracy in early learners a priority, according to a joint research center funded by the Australian government and tasked with advising the government on how to improve the basic education system amid a pandemic. Commuters, who are heading to their workplaces, line up at the Nepa Q-Mart station of the EDSA Bus Carousel in Quezon City early Tuesday morning, June 21, 2022, to beat the influx of passengers. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority estimated last week that there will be a possible increase in passenger volume as fewer private cars may ply EDSA due to the continuing hike in oil prices. The STAR / Miguel De Guzman MANILA, Philippines — After losing hundreds of jeepney units offering free rides, commuters might soon see less public utility buses plying the roads too, with operators beginning to feel the bite of skyrocketing gas prices. Speaking in an interview Wednesday morning aired over DZMM TeleRadyo, Juliet de Jesus, managing director of the Samahan ng mga Transport Operators ng Pilipinas said that something would have to give to keep buses on the roads despite longwinding delays on both petitions to increase minimum fare and calls for a subsidy. Drivers of public utility buses, many of which serve the EDSA Carousel in the metro's busiest thoroughfare while others are provincial buses bringing commuters into the capital region, have protested delayed payment of the Libreng Sakay program under service contracting and harsh treatment by employers. But the transportation department brushed these off as unreported cases that should be under the jurisdiction of the labor department.
