The new law also raised the maximum fine from 500 to 2,000 baht for driving in wrong direction and failure to wear a helmet or a seat belt. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Thai Taxi Public Association said that its working committee has proposed an increase, starting at 45 baht for taxis with 1,600-1,800cc engines and 50 baht for taxis with 2,000cc engines and above for the first kilometre. Local media visited Ms. Pornchita Sawang-rom, 22, at a hospital today, September 1st, after a story about her poor three-year-old son who got electrocuted after touching a metal chain and sustained injuries sparked criticism on Thai social media. According to Pornchita, the terrifying incident took place around 8 p.m. on August 30th in the Sattahip district of Chonburi. Her son was walking down Bangsaray Beach with her and came to look at a propeller memorial on the beachside that was decorated with two fences and metal chains. Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manoch Nongyai and relevant authorities inspected Walking Street on Wednesday, August 31st, to follow up on the progress of the 30-million-baht road resurfacing project. Walking Street used to be in worse shape, according to Deputy Manoch, because it was dug up to bury underground wires and pipes under the command of the Provincial Electricity Authority to enhance the tourism atmosphere. However, Manoch stated that the project was done during the low season with few tourists, so the consequences were tolerable.
