The Thai government has decided to waive personal income tax collection from foreign actors when working on films shot in Thailand in the next five years, in a fresh bid to attract foreign crews to the country and the associated revenue. Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said today (Tuesday) that the tax incentive is part of the government’s efforts to develop the country’s soft power. The cabinet decided today (Tuesday) to extend the current measures intended to cushion the impacts of rising energy prices for those with low incomes and small businesses, to help with their cost of living. The cabinet will also seek cooperation from both the private and public sectors in conserving energy. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha warned that the current energy crisis is unlikely to end in the foreseeable future, hence the need for further meetings to develop longer-term measures to cope with the uncertain situation. Measures to help small businesses and those in need include: Retail price of NGV or natural gas for vehicles to be frozen at 15.59 baht/kg and 13.62 baht/kg for taxis which participate in government-subsidised program for three more months, retroactive from June 16th to September 15th. Retail price of LPG to be frozen at 408 baht for 15-kg cylinder for three months from July until September. Street food vendors and small shops which hold welfare cards will be given 100 baht per month discount for the purchase of LPG. Low-income earners who hold state welfare cards will be given discounts on the purchase of cooking gas for three months and a 50% discount on the purchase of diesel for the amount above 35 baht/litre for three months. Speaker Lord Allan Velasco swears in Ducielle Cardema as a member of the House on Tuesday, October 13. (Screengrab from Congress' Facebook page) MANILA, Philippines — The Duterte Youth party-list, its House representative, and her husband, are asking the Supreme Court to review the Commission on Elections' decision to allow former poll commissioner Rowena Guanzon to substitute as nominee for a party-list for PWDs, saying the substitution happened past deadline. Guanzon, in 2019, opposed a similar substitution within the Duterte Youth, denying then-National Youth Commission Chairperson Ronald Cardema a seat at the House. Ronald and Rep. Ducielle Marie Cardema mentioned the incident in their petition, saying they had been "harassed repeatedly by [Guanzon] in the media and social media on the issue of party-list substitution." The Cardemas filed an Urgent Petition for Certiorari asking the court to issue an order to stop COMELEC from issuing Guanzon a Certificate of Proclamation and for the House of Representatives to keep Guanzon and any other subsitutes for the P3PWD (Komunidad ng Pamilya, Pasyente at Persons With Disabilities) party-list from sitting as a member until the plea is resolved. BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s high-profile 2022 Global Summit of Women, scheduled for June 23–25 in Bangkok, will welcome over 1,000 participants from more than 60 countries. Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), led by Senior Vice President Nichapa Yoswee, made the announcement alongside Irene Natividad, president of the Global Summit of Women, Thailand Host Committee Chair Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul and Siripakorn Chiosamut, deputy governor for marketing communications and marketing director at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The summit will be Thailand’s first large-scale, in-person global convention after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. It is also seen as a timely opportunity for the kingdom to present itself as a world destination for international events, having gradually relaxed incoming travel and event restrictions over the past three months. The TCEB vice president said the summit not only mirrors national aspirations as set forth in Thailand’s 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan, but also reflects the resilience and economic contribution of the nation’s MICE industry. The organization anticipates 1,000 participants and female leaders from 60 countries attending this highly anticipated world-class convention, which is expected to generate up to 80 million baht in revenue. TCEB noted that despite the pandemic, the MICE industry in Thailand generated over 33.2 billion baht in revenue last year, creating over 46,000 jobs. In addition to the 23 TCEB-supported international events announced for 2022, the annual APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, scheduled for November 18-19, 2022, in Bangkok, will be a major highlight drawing international attention to the kingdom. According to organizers, this year’s theme of ’Women: Creating Opportunities in the New Reality’ will also focus on driving the post-pandemic economy. Additionally, the 2022 Global Summit of Women in Thailand is notable for its "Carbon Neutral" format. All meetings and activities at the summit will be monitored for their carbon footprint. Emissions from energy use, participants’ travel, catering and waste management will be offset with the purchase of carbon credits from the Project to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Thailand. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK (MOE) - H.E. Kanokwan Vilawan, the Deputy Minister of Education, attends the hybrid conference “Seventh International Conference on Adults Education (CONFINTEA VII)” via online, held on 15-17 June 2022 in Marrakech, Morocco and delivers a speech during the Ministerial Panel on the topic of Assessing Progress in Adult Learning and Education (ALE) against the Belem Framework for Action since 2009. On this occasion, she expresses her appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this important conference, and to UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and UNESCO for their continuing support to this conference and for inviting Thailand to share the strategies on the ALE with a focus on the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. Then, she congratulates UIL for launching the 5th Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE) and commend their efforts in contributing to this report. “The Ministry of Education places high importance to the disables, in particularly during the post COVID-19 pandemic. We have mobilized resources and cooperation from all relevant agencies in locating people with disabilities who have not yet accessed to education. In so doing, we introduce ICT to support us in tracking people with disabilities all over the country. Therefore, a programme called CAPER was developed to locate this group of people. Once they have been tracked, they will be provided with appropriate types of education in relevance to their own needs and local context including individualized education program, lifelong learning and learning for occupation. As the Deputy Minister in charge of non-formal and adult learning and education, I am working on enacting a legislation on the Promotion of Learning so that it includes lifelong learning, self-directed learning and learning for degree equivalency. It aims to mobilize efforts and resources of all relevant bodies to assist in education provision, including communities, local authorities, civil societies, and local wisdoms. All stakeholders are encouraged to contribute to provide flexible learning pathways to enable all citizens, to access to reskill and upskill/ in line with their needs to increase their employability opportunity. I wish to take this opportunity to compliment all those who have been involved in the production of GRALE 5. I hope that this report will be the guideline for policy-makers, educators and related practitioners to develop adult learning and education, in particular increasing wider opportunity for the vulnerable.” Kanokwan said. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
