BANGKOK, Sept 1 (TNA) – The Royal Irrigation Department warned people in 11 provinces of the rising level of the Chao Phraya River as it will increase the discharge rate of the Chao Phraya barrage on Sept 4. Prapit Chanma, director-general of the department, wrote to the governors of 11 provinces in the Chao Phraya river basin and relevant organizations, asking them to warn people living near Chao Phraya and Noi rivers to monitor water levels closely because his department had to increase the discharge rate of the Chao Phraya barrage in Chai Nat province as the Chao Phraya River was receiving water at a faster flow rate from the North. On Sept 4, the discharge rate at the Chao Phraya barrage will be 1,800-2,000 cubic meters per second. According to a press release from the BMA, during the initial stage of enforcement, offenders will face a fine of 500 baht which will, eventually, be increased to as much as 5,000 baht. If the offenders are caught on CCTV, they will receive a notification, sent to their residence, instructing them to pay the fine within 15 days, failing that they will receive a second notice, followed by legal action if they still fail to pay. Photo by police A 24-year-old woman has been detained in northern Vietnam for brokering sex work for as high as $2,000 per service. The Criminal Police Division under the Ministry of Public Security is collaborating with Hanoi police to probe into Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, a native of Hai Duong Province, for "brokering sex services." On August 17, police raided a hotel in the Trung Hoa urban area in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan District and found a man with a commercial sex worker. Police tracked down Giang through this case, and found that she had since early 2021 created social media groups to recruit women and connect them with men wanting sexual services. Cao Sy Huy, 40, is now under detention in Dong Nai Province which borders Ho Chi Minh City. Police said Huy crossed the Vietnam-Cambodia border illegally to work at a casino in Cambodia late last year before moving to work for a company owned by a Chinese man in Cambodia. A serious traffic accident between a bike and a massive ten-wheeled truck occurred near Wat Khao Chee on the Mab Iang – Laem Chabang Road in the Nongkham subdistrict of Sri Racha, today, August 31st. Sri Racha rescue services arrived at the accident scene after getting a report to assist an injured male motorcyclist who suffered a large cut on his left leg. His crumpled Yamaha M Slash bike was discovered nearby along with a ten-wheeled truck and the driver Mr. Jirakorn Koanoom-Klang, 31, waiting to meet the police. DSI Director-General Triyarith Temahivong said today (Wednesday) that several relatives of the fire’s victims had asked the DSI to take over the investigation from local police in Sattahip district in Chon Buri province. He explained that, for a crime to be treated as a special case to be investigated by the DSI, it must be proven that someone with influence has interfered with the case or investigation in a way which could complicate or compromise the investigation by local police. The Zoological Park Organisation of Thailand are making preparations, at Khao Kheow open zoo in the eastern province of Chon Buri, for a birthday celebration for Mae Malee, the longest surviving hippopotamus in Thailand, which will turn 57 on September 8th. The organisation’s director, Attapon Srihayrun, said today (Wednesday) that Mae Malee will be treated to a huge fruit cake on her birthday and visitors to the zoo will be invited to join the celebration and express their good wishes from September 8th to the 11th. Mae Malee was born at a zoo in Cologne, Germany, on September 8th, 1966 and was received by the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand on June 8th of the following year, when she was about a year old. She has since given birth to 14 calves, which have been distributed to various zoos around the country.
