  3. Soi Dog Foundation recently carried out its annual vaccination drive at the Phuket Stray Dog Shelter in Thalang – also known as the government dog pound. A team of Soi Dog veterinarians, community outreach staff, and rescue officers, alongside a representative from the Phuket Provincial Office of the Department of Livestock Development, came together to ensure all 735 resident dogs at the government-operated facility received vital vaccinations against six diseases, including rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. “Annual vaccinations of shelter dogs are a must and should be standard at every dog shelter,” said Dr. Alicja Izydorczyk, Soi Dog’s International Director of Animal Welfare. “Distemper and parvovirus are extremely contagious, and both are very common in Thailand, killing hundreds of thousands of dogs every year. If dogs in a shelter are not vaccinated regularly, there is a very high chance of an outbreak which can easily kill half of the shelter dog population.” Full Story: https://thepattayanews.com/2022/09/02/soi-dog-carries-out-annual-vaccination-drive-at-phuket-stray-dog-shelter/ -- © Copyright The Pattaya News 2022-09-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Philstar.com / Kristine Joy Patag MANILA, Philippines — The United Kingdom is looking to “significantly” increase its investments in the Philippines, especially growing its green investments and infrastructure as the country highlights the need to address climate change and environmental issues. Collaborating on environmental issues was identified as one of the four key pillars of the Philippines’ bilateral relationship with the UK. The others include trade and investments, science and technology, and working together on maritime issues. “[Through] British International Investments, we’ll be investing 500 million pounds in Southeast Asia in the next five years and the Philippines is one of the three focus countries in that,” British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils told reporters on Thursday. Released / Makabayan bloc MANILA, Philippines — Arguing that a parliamentary system will prove to be better at exacting accountability from officials, some senators pushed for a shift to this form of government as they expressed dissatisfaction at the failure of executive branch officials to show up at hearings on proposals to change the Constitution. Sen. Robinhood Padilla, chairperson of the constitutional amendments and revision of codes panel, fumed during the third hearing on Charter change on Friday as he said officials invited from the executive branch, including those from the Department of Energy and the National Economic and Development Authority, excused themselves from attending. “Kapag iniimbita sana itong mga taga-executive, sana po ay mapagbibigyan niyo kami sapagkat hindi naman po kami dito mga Marites o Parites. Iyon pong aming gusto namin, kasama po kayo, ay patungkol po sa Konstitusyon. Itong bagay na ito ay hindi po ito isang bagay na isinasantabi sapagkat po Saligang Batas po ito,” Padilla said. (When we invite these people from the executive, hopefully you would grant our request because we are now rumor mongers here. What we want is for you to join us in discussions on the Constitution. This thing is not something that we should set aside because we’re talking about the fundamental law.) By curating and compiling surplus fabric from garment factories, the company provides an online marketplace for small businesses to access quality fabrics at reasonable prices. Thailand produces approximately one billion yards or 350,000 tonnes of surplus fabric a year that ends up in landfills, exacerbating the environmental impact of the already resource-intensive textile industry. However, 350,000 tonnes of fabric translates to approximately 700 million T-shirts, providing ample supply to serve both major and minor apparel brands. As a surplus fabric provider, moreloop meets the market demand for textiles without consuming additional resources, while preventing carbon emissions at the landfill. Vulcan Coalition Vulcan Coalition partners with several Thailand-based companies to fulfill their disability employment quotas. Source: Vulcan Coalition Facebook Page Vulcan Coalition is touted as the first AI startup in the world driven by persons with disabilities (PWDs), addressing the increasing demand for high-quality data used in AI training and a dire lack of meaningful disability employment. Vulcan Coalition creates high-quality datasets boasting as little as 1/10th the time to market (TTM) of other data labeling services by drawing on the natural talents of PWDs. These datasets can be used to train AI software, which in turn, supports accessibility technologies such as screen readers. Its data-labeling platform for PWDs was recognized with the National Innovation Awards 2021. According to a market analysis report by Grand View Research, the global AI training dataset market size was valued at nearly US$1.41 billion in 2021 and is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.2% from 2022 to 2030. Vulcan Coalition has set a goal of employing 60,000 working-age PWDs or 11% of all working-age PWDs in Thailand, becoming the largest data labeling firm in the Asia-Pacific. A system for social innovation Innovation can come from anywhere and anyone, but social innovations—the ideas that better our societies and economies—don’t always make it to market. To translate social innovations into social enterprises, Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA) has built a system of grant and technical support programs to systematically identify, groom, and grow social innovations. Programs like the Social Innovation Business Plan Contest (????????), the National Innovation Awards, and Startup Thailand have allowed several social enterprises including many of the ones listed here, to find their footing.
