Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation is considering whether to treat the deadly Mountain B pub fire as a special case, meaning it would be investigated by the DSI. DSI Director-General Triyarith Temahivong said today (Wednesday) that several relatives of the fire’s victims had asked the DSI to take over the investigation from local police in Sattahip district in Chon Buri province. The prime minister’s chair is left vacant as Acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan chooses the seat for deputy prime minister. Acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan today dismissed speculation about an imminent Cabinet reshuffle. “Why should there be a Cabinet reshuffle when the government can still get things done?,” he said as he arrived at the Government House to chair his first Cabinet meeting as acting prime minister after the Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was suspended from active duty as prime minister by the Constitutional Court last week. There has been speculation that even as acting prime minister, Gen Prawit might carry out a limited Cabinet reshuffle to appease factions in his Palang Pracharath Party. There are currently two Cabinet portfolios waiting to be filled while two Cabinet members face the prospects of being suspended in connection with legal charges against them. Fisherman Dang To at the Phan Thiet Port, Binh Thuan Province, on August 29, 2022. Photo by VnExpress/Viet Quoc A diesel shortage has stranded many fishing vessels in the coastal town of Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan Province and the morning fish markets are eerily quiet. The Phan Thiet port in the central province was unusually quiet Monday morning despite it being peak fishing season. Hundreds of fishing vessels were not returning from the sea as usual. They were docked next to each other from Con Cha wharf to Tran Hung Dao Bridge. Occasionally, a few owners went out to check up on their fishing vessels. Dang To, 47-year-old owner of a fishing boat, said many local fishermen have been unable to purchase diesel over the last two days. His fishing boat has five crew members and they focus on fishing in waters around Phu Quy Island. He needed over 4,000 liters of diesel for a 10-day journey at sea.
