  1. How should it be for people who sell booze illegally? Oh….you don’t care….because they will happily break the law with a smile for you. What about the inhalant issue and the dangers of children/teens sniffing glue? I see that doesn’t bother you either. Yup…..priorities.
  2. You can buy a condo for under 300k in Bangkok if you’re not picky about…well…anything.
  3. Yeah…I was just looking at their website. It’s quite a nice hospital and very niche too. Definitely not representative of a typical hospital here in Thailand. The suites are huge! Nice selection of restaurants, herb gardens, Ayurvedic treatment facilities, a museum…it even has an Apple products distributor and some sort of “prototype” gourmet grocery store. Beautiful waterfront views too! It’s a hospital for the (very) rich where the (assumably) high prices paid by the patients help to subsidize the government portion of Siriraj. Interesting setup. I’ll bet it’s very expensive and hopefully won’t be used as an example of what it might cost if someone ends up in the hospital with Covid.
  4. No, it didn’t. The report was made by a much smaller (1/6th the size) private offshoot of Siriraj, named SIRIRAJ Piyamaharajkarun Hospital
  5. Unfortunately, I was a few years too young so there was no chance my parents would have ever let me go to a show. I had to hide my all my cassettes from my mom too. ????
  6. They sound like X (old punk band from L.A.)
  7. If you like the IKEA styles and are interested in the next step up in quality (and price) I recommend KVIK. They also sell appliances (mid range) and I found that when going for the whole package deal through them (cabinets/countertops/appliances/etc) it was cheaper (and more efficient) than trying to source things elsewhere. https://www.kvik.co.th Got money to burn? https://www.arkitektura.co.th/poggenpohl
  8. What does Thailand offer that will “propel it into a higher level nation”…and what does that even mean? Will Thailand become a technological tour de force? What are we up to now? Thailand 5.0?Will they conjure up an aerospace industry? Is Thairung the next big thing in autos? Whatever the plans….how will it be paid for? More debt? Will things get more expensive here in the long run? Possibly. How much and how fast? Who knows? Maybe we will see deflation as the credit bubble unwinds. Don’t know….but if either situation happened too fast, Thailand will have much bigger issues to deal with than a few expats who are renting a handful of the gazillion of empty condos. Perhaps they’ll increase the 800k requirement to 1.2 million and potentially grandfather the old timers in….or not. Que sera sera
  9. These guys pick apart (and rightfully so) the new 911 Dakar. The thing will get bashed off road. https://www.theautopian.com/we-took-a-close-look-at-the-new-porsche-911-dakar-and-weve-got-some-questions-about-off-road-capability-and-aerodynamics/ I always like the original 1978 911 Safari. Porsche custom built a couple “Safari style” 911s for an endurance team and the thing is absolutely bad ass! https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/articles/68411/safari-style-porsche-911-takes-on-the-world-s-highest-volcano/
  10. Sorry….I’m a little brain dead today. I agree….I’d make it home too. And with the price….honestly…I don’t know what should be charged. To me, something like quiche is a common simple food…something I too would have had at school like the other posters stated. Shepherd’s pie would be another simple dish. So….to me, it is an odd thing to sell in a deli case here and if they need to sell it at 290/slice in order to cover their overhead then so be it. To me, quiche isn’t a premium product. 290 a slice….Thailand….doesn’t compute.
  11. I have…why so snippy? someone posted a link to a recipe for high quality quiche with all the fancy ingredients. So, out of curiosity, I went to tops website and sourced the ingredients including the crème freche, double cream and Gruyère….that’s how I came to ฿700 for the ingredients. So, in my own personal opinion, here in Bangkok…even if they were using the good ingredients (I don’t know if they are or aren’t)….I think a ฿1000 markup is fairly substantial.
  12. Ahhh….I see. My mistake. There was mention in the story about another couple finding an orange Melo Pearl so I assumed (wrongly) that was what they had found.
  13. Now google “melo pearl” as it appears that is what they may have found. *further information provided shows it wasn’t a Melo pearl
  14. What price? Dunno. Do you think they are using real crème fraiche, double cream or Gruyère at Tops? If not….then maybe they are making it for far less than ฿700….not to mention that they are buying the ingredients in bulk and not paying the retail prices that I quoted. If quiche is your thing and you think ฿1740 is a good value….have at it. Bon Appetit!
  15. Adding up the cost of all the ingredients in the link you provided would run about ฿700 (Tops had everything but the lardons on their site so I just ballparked ฿1000/kg for decent ham). More expensive than I would have thought. Still…almost ฿1800 is pretty pricy and I’ll bet that there is nothing imported about it (as many posters seem to believe) because if it was imported, it would have the little flag/country of origin next to it as they do on (probably) every imported product in all the major higher end supermarkets.
  16. Thanks….much appreciated! That was easy. I’ll be there tomorrow also ????
  17. I had a similar thing happen and after 10 days I got the dreaded “you must report to immigration”. Has the 90 day reporting office moved back to CW from Muangthongthani?
  18. I remember Choate. Our headmaster had to call a special meeting before “Choate Day” in order to plead with the students to not cheer “Choate Does Coke!” at the sporting events. https://www.nytimes.com/1984/05/05/nyregion/14-choate-students-expelled-in-inquiry-into-cocaine-arrest.html Those were some wild times ????
  19. It’s a FOMO article. We were inundated with the same “Chinese are buying everything” garbage from the REIC (Real Estate Industrial Complex) in California when they needed more bag holders back in 2006-2007. Oh….you better act fast before the Chinese buy everything and drive the prices up!!! Buy now before you’re PRICED OUT FOREVER! Typical marketing spiel.
  20. I think he was the most helpful forum member here. RIP
  21. Online at whatever the brands Thai website is.
  22. These guys are good. 3 different grades of leather. Showroom in Bangkok is at the Crystal Design Center. https://128studio.com
  23. It happens….but not always mistakenly. https://nypost.com/2022/11/30/meet-sam-brinton-non-binary-biden-official-arrested-over-stolen-suitcase/
  24. Yup….I remember that from the 70’s. Malibu surfers (locals) were well known for their aggressiveness to any outsiders poaching their waves. Went there once as a kid. Never again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malibu_Locals_Only
