We are where we are....now to make the best of it, is that too hard for you to understand?

No point in bleating on about what might have been. I have trust in the government and advisors that if a no deal is chosen, it will be to avoid the UK being suffocated by EU imposed conditions in the future.

I have NO trust in Bonkin' Boris or his advisor Dominic Cummings

  2. When Sweden decided that they would drive on the wrong side of the road (back in the 1960s) by changing from the left-hand side (as in civilised countries such as Thailand and the UK), to the right-hand side,  they put a very strict speed limit for several weeks (or months ?)  so that any accidents would be very minor. I can't remember what the limit was (20 km/h to start ?).    Thailand needs to do something similar then they would see how many lives can be saved.

I know it will never happen.  Just thought I'd thow a different idea into the discussion

I told them a million times not to exaggerate.

i prefer driving in Thailand than Melbourne. In Melbourne they put speed cameras everywhere, if you go 5 kms over you cop a big fine.  It is over the top.

I enjoy speeding when it is safe on an empty open road, in Melbourne you have sneaky coppers hiding in bushes with radar.

I am guilty of having a few beers and driving, I have used my phone when driving, sometimes don’t bother wearing a seatbelt, sometimes can’t be arsed wearing the helmet on the bike, occasionally drive on the wrong side of the road. I have never caused an accident.
Most of the foreigners here that I know have done the same.

thai law enforcement is a bit slack, but Melbourne laws are way over the top and mainly about revenue raising.

Only ever copped a parking fine in Phuket town. Paid out thousands living in Melbourne.

Sounds to me that Melbourne is doint the right thing.    Petrol-heads like you should not be allowed on any roads

They need to stop talking brake failure on Thai made cars or that be another industry moved to Vietnam. If so many brake failures are true with we know is bs would make manufacturers libel to group legal claims.

The  problem is that Thai drivers will not change to a low gear when goig down long and steep slopes.  Using a lower gear would use more petrol (gas) !

He is probably spot on there.

9 billion baht is a lot of money and it makes a huge house which isn't needed if it was only to be used for consular matters.

I guess a number of 3-letter organizations will also take office there together with their sophisticated electronic equipment.

The US Consulate was always a lovely place back in the 70.s - no need to change it.  The other 3-letter organisations had rented office space elasewhere in Chiang Mai. The Vice Consuls also lived in rented houses off campus.   Perhaps the US  wants to have a big compound with all staff and affliated organisations in one place

A perfect example of the general lack of attention to basic detail here in Thailand - one which causes so much confusion in every facet of life from. For us foreigners easy examples of the lack of attention to detail can be found in the inaccurate interpretation and translations of regulations and rules (such as immigration) to incomplete, vague and clumsy lists of requirements.

That said: How many British people can recognise when the Union Jack is flown upside down ????

    Good question !!

  7. I would try to come back soon and suffer the quarentine if I can do it at my house in a  moo-baan.  It is sufficently far from other properties to be safe.  I can get supplies and meals delivered to my gate easy enough.  I can then relax at home for 2 weeks with my books, CDs ,piano, computer and garden and be very happy.  The IO are welcome to come an check on me any time they like.  I suspect there are many others who might agree.

But locked up in a rip-off hotel for 2 weeks would be no good for my mental health.  I guess this is a case where money is moe important that the health of tourists.
