Impossible to be too accurate about how fast the car was being driven but I don't think it could have been 177 kph judging from the picture of the damage done :

A 177 kph collision would have sent the bike flying. Assuming this is that bike, apart from bent front forks it doesn't look that bad.

As I pointed out eisewhere, both ferrari and bike were travelling in the same direction so  if Boss was clocking 177 kph and the cop was exceeding the speed limit (I know that sounds impossible - sarcasm)  the impact velocity would be much less than some people here are thinking of.

Yes, it was. But you didn’t answer my question; have you moved away from your he was traveling at 77kph theory? Are you now looking for another way to defend the Red Bull rat’s abhorrent actions?

What are the tourist attractions that other towns  have, that CM doesnt have ?

Before the days when every one lived in an air-conditioned house, drove in an air-conditioned car to work in their air-conditioned office, the great attraction of Chiang Mai was the climate.  Coupled with the mountains, country-side and hill-tribes.  When I lived there, there was only one set of traffic lights in the whole city.  Those were the good old days.,,,,,,,,,,,,

I ....... believe .... there are enough people around the world who wouldnt find spending $1000 and up on a quarantine hotel and losing two weeks as a hardship.Medical Tourists, the pot is endless.

I don't see too many peorple wanting to spend 2 weeks in a hotel room - and not allowewd out during that time.  Many sane people might go mad in solitary confinement !

The requirement for quarantine is not unique to Thailand. Most countries in Europe are requiring tourists to quarantine upon arrival.

In the UK you can do the quarantine at home.   Those of us with properties in Thailand might me more prepared to come back if they could serve the quarantime period in their own property.

This is hardly Pan-Asia - it's just a bit of Indochina.  Once these routes are established I should be able to get to UK entirely by rail :  BKK - Kunmig - Peking -  Ulan Bator - then link to trans-siberian express - Moscow - Warsaw - Belin - Brusselles and Eurostar to London ????

    perfect holday ????

  7. It has happened already. Went to Morrissons yesterday (SUnday) with the wife to buy cocnut milk to make Thai curry fpr guest coming for dinner.  The shelf where the A-Roy boxes normally are was empty  with  a little stcker saying that some products have been withdrawn.  Lucky we still had some at home. Now we wll have to find a little gorcery store that will still sell Thai coconot milk and cream .......  will have to visit the Indian and other asian food stores/ No real problem - but inconvenient ...

I bet you have talked to the several hundred thousand, who work in the tourism industry!?

There can be little doubt that the several hundred thousand in the tourism industry want farang tourists back.

'They' who do not want us back are rich and powerful. There income does not depend on tourists, and many are anti-farang.

Also, with no work from the tourist the rich an powerful can cut salaries to the poor workers and make more profit. For the many who enjoy Thai ladies, they will have the pick of the bunch of loverly Thai ladies for peanuts because that are so desperate.

Married foreigners can get back in...  they have to apply for a Certificate of Entry, not as simple as just jumping on a flight, but still possible nonetheless.

They have to apply for the certificate at the Thai consulate. They also need to have a medically certified Corvid-free test no older that 72 hour before departure, and they must have this verified at the consulate before taking the flight. The flight will cost about £700 one way  - non refundable if the certification is not forth-coming. Then, on arrival in Thailand, pay for 14 days in a hotel a between 2,500 and 5,000  a night.  I think  that (1)  they did not think this one through or (2)  they do not want us back.  I shall spend the next few months (?or more) waiting for this to improve

  10. I stayed at the Railway Hotel for a night in 1972 with a group of students making a round Thailand study trip. It was, therefore, most certainly not up-market. Wherever we stayed the students would unload lots of camp beds so as to squeeze as many people as possible into a room. Staff were lucky and had a room each. The only thing I  remember about this instantly forgettable hotel is that it was close to the sea  !  Bet it's more than 50 Baht a room now !
