I must admit the orbortor where I live does try to keep the place clean, around the beach some years ago he put all wheelie bins as people come off the beach he put quite a few not just one or two I bet within 2 weeks the lot was gone,
In the moo baan we live we pay 480 baht per year they come twice a week empty the bins and they do a good job leave nothing behind, just wish the neighbour would get herself a bin instead of using mine and go and pay the 480 baht
I know how you feel !!!

Memphis has long been neglected. But it is enormously rich, bursting with temples, archives, administrative buildings and industrial areas.
I always thought Memphis was in the US of A where Elvis was God. Has it moved ?

A canal across the peninsula is the logical answer. Unloading and re-loading goods on and off a train link would be very costly and the time taken will eat into any saving form the trip round Singapore. Thailand would benefit tremendously from taxes for ships passing through (per person for cruise ships, per tonne for cargo). Could even develop a seaside resort on the Andaman side.

Honestly think they will have to give priority to people who have a house lease and let them do the 14 days quarantine at their home. No one will ever accept to pay for a 14 days quarantine in a hotel when they already have a rent to be paid or are the owner of a house/condo in the country. Makes zero sense.
I share you thoughts exactly. Here in the UK when we had to quarantine for 14 days, we did it at home. The authorities check from time to time and come down hard on those who are not at home when they should be.
Thailand could do the same for those of us who have property in Thailand. There are 2 reasons why they will not do this :
1. They are civil servants. Senior civil servants do not move away from their desk/ office. Their work is to pass papers around. They can be judged on their efficiency by the number of papers in their out tray at the end of the day. If somethings needs to be done outside the office, they a have a low ranking civil servant to do the job. Obviously the low ranking civil servant would not have the authority to check on farang in their houses/condos, and the senior civil servants will never go out in the sun. Obviously any checking must be done between the hours of 8.30 and 16.30.
2. They are incapable of finding the farang's house. They cannot read a map. I say this with all seriousness as I have worked with them and have noted this failing on many occasions. This is why nobody knows if houses are being built on forestry land (for example). They do not want to admit to their ignorance in the basic skill of map reading.

I had a nice holiday on Phuket. But I absolutely avoided the more touristy areas and found a magical place to stay, with very nice people managing it.
Wonderful community who rushed to our help in an emergency.
The exception that proves the rule? ????
I had a nice holiday in Phuket. It was is 1976. The beach forest extended all the way along the beaches; hardly any hotels. Stayed at a nice old wooden one.
Could watch the vast number of barges with giant industrial vacuum cleaners dredging the offshore areas all day long looking for gold or tin. Those were the days !!

Many Thai's don't like the kind of work you speak of and expect Burmese and Cambodian workers to do those jobs. Let's be honest; many Thai people think it's below them to bend down and pick up their own rubbish, they will walk over rubbish for days right outside their home and never clear it up !
Maybe they need lessons from the Army on cleaning the place up. The Generals could lead the way !

The government agreed to the private sector hire 260,000 new graduates for a year, Prayuth Chan-ocha told a briefing after a cabinet meeting.
This is for the un-employable children of the rich. Another fantastic investment for the Thai nation ????

I hope the job fairs, training, and Government sponsered jobs are not just concentrated in Bangkok.
Great news for Thailand that the Kra Canal (another China debt trap) has been canceled. Maybe a land (road and rail) bridge, Adaman to Gulf, will prove feasable. Just don't borrow from China for any projects.
The Kra Canal was a very sensible idea, it is a pity it has been cancelled. Obviously sending everything by road will be a lot safer ! Yes, I am a cynic

The locals probably stir fry those things every day.
There's not much to eat in a sea-star. But some regular echinoids and holothurians (sea-cucumbers) are very tasty

I think the term 'protected species' is being used wrongly here. Many marine species are protected by the CITES rules. But that is not the offence here. The fact is that they were up to no good in a protected area. Thailand , like many other nations has delimited some marine areas as 'no-go' for anything other than looking. The marine life here must not be disturbed.

It makes so much sense to have the canal. It will happen eventually. Not only for transport of goods - tourists on cruise ships would love to spend time in BKK and then sail to the unspoiled islands of the Mergui archipelago .....

Very lucky for the sea cucumber they weren't Chinese divers or it would have been eaten on the spot.
I didn't know that they are eaten raw !!
But you are right - holothurians are a delicacy in many parts of the world

This finally proves, conclusively, that the Thai tourism industry does not need foreigners and that, going forward, domestic tourism will be more than sufficient to generate the foreign currency reserves required for Thailand to thrive. From whence is this foreign currency going to come ?

Tourists could take the Yellow Submarine to look at the reefs around Phuket some time back. The tsunami on Boxing day 2004 ended that !

I think playing video games with racing cars is the way your Thai kids learn to drive. We see it all the time in shopping malls and bur terminals etc.
They think that when you have an accident you just press the re-start button

The Brits rather should protect their country and avoid Zodicas arriving to their shores from France than commenting on Thai roads situation, which is none of their business.
It is their business since a large number of Brits come on holiday to Thailand (or at least they used to !). It is reasonable for them to be warned

Lib-Dems or Greens. The problem is that the average UK voter is as stupid as those in the USA. They see it as a 2-horse race; they try to guess who will win , then vote for that party and feel good if their man (or lady) wins. Most of them do not understand what ig going on - you can seen this from interviews with voters in the street. They voted for Boris because he was 'a bit of a laugh'
