I miss the 3 hour journey west to Hua Hin in a cattle truck... refreshments are at each station when old ladies get on trying to sell something unrecognisable from a basket, drinks are usually served in a bucket of ice.
Bone shaker seats that leaves your spine needing manipulation before you can walk any distance. [that's my story] the air-con is open the window, if you can, otherwise try to sit below the rotating ceiling fan.
I love the adventure and at 30 baht who's complaining.
30 Baht ???? when was that ?
I always had to pay 33 Baht for Nakhon Phathom to Hua Hin and that was back in 2019. It did take 3 hours usually - so maybe you mean the same trip !

My adopted Thai grandson has just reached 5 years old. He appears to be quite bright and very interested in sea animals, shipwrecks, and botany. Only one language at the moment, Thai, but he uses many English nouns rather than the Thai equivalent. E. G. crab, lobster, jellyfish, cactus.
He'll be starting school as soon as its possible. My hope is that they'll not dumb him down.
sadly, despite his enquiring mind, he will be forced to conform when he gets to school.

This is the first enlightened generation in Thailand. Overseas educations and social media has brought about that change.
The scales are off their eyes and will never return. I have listened to people from this movement speak and they know what they want. It's just that what they want is incomprehensible to the Junta and the Thai "elite".
There were many enlightened students in the early-mid 1970s. Hundreds (some at the time claimed thousands) were killed .........

Thailand probes death of Swiss tourist near Phuket waterfall
Image: Thairath
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is investigating the death of a 57-year-old Swiss tourist after her body was found near a waterfall on the resort island of Phuket, with signs she had died of unnatural causes, officials said on Friday.
The woman was visiting under the "Phuket Sandbox" scheme, a pilot project to allow in vaccinated foreign tourists to help revive a sector decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Phuket governor Narong Woonciew said, adding that she had arrived on the island on July 13.
The woman appeared to have been dead for three days before her body was found, partially unclothed, said Kitirath Phanpetch, commander of Region 8 police that oversees Phuket, in an interview on MCOT television.
Although police have not yet determined the cause of death, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat expressed condolences to the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok in a statement that described the case as a "murder".
Thailand's Phuket tourism scheme, in which vaccinated visitors can skip COVID-19 quarantine but have to remain on the island for 14 days, has faced a difficult start particularly as the rest of Thailand faces a surge in coronavirus infections.
The scheme attracted about 15,000 visitors in July, its first month, just 1% of pre-pandemic arrivals
"After finishing the terms of the sandbox, she travelled to (the nearby island of) Krabi and returned," Kitirath said.
She stayed at a hotel in Phuket that was about two km (1.24 miles) from a waterfall where she was later found.
The body was found with swelling and bruises, Kitirath said, adding that results of an autopsy would be ready later on Friday.
"There was a black cloth covering the body, which suggests somebody placed it there and that the cause of death was unnatural," he said.
Kitirath said police were investigating people with criminal records and also migrant workers for possible involvement in the death.

I've met many women who came to Phuket by themselves. Some of them were on holiday, many of them found jobs, partners, and ended up becoming part of the community - both farang and local.
The amount of foreigners murdered in Phuket is tiny - to have it happen to a lone woman who could have been one of my friends is sickening.
it is sickening even if it was not one of your friends

Who's rich? The hotel receptionists, cleaners, cooks, waitresses, gardeners, drivers, the food sellers, the fruit sellers, beach chair vendors and all the other people that are supported by the tourism industry who have had virtually no income for a year? Moronic and insensitive comment.
The rich are the people who own the hotel etc., not the plebs - the workers are not important !

I arrived from overseas on July 4th, I had completed all requirements.
my wife flew in from BKK domestic she only had to produce a 7 day negative test, she also didn’t have to do any tests whilst on the island, where as I had to make test day 1-6-12.
the domestic traveler has done this, not the international arrivals.
you mean your wife ?

My heart goes out to all of my friends here in Thailand and their families who are suffering at the hands of this Junta lead Government.
Not good idea to suggest that Thailand is a Republic !!!

Twice as many fully vaccinated dying compared to single dose. Can you provide the source please?

how TAT forms/comes up with their predictions for tourist-numbers.
It's very simple really. Get the BTS to Ratchathewi, alight here, go to Asia Hotel exit and enter ist Floor (2nd floor to some people) and go round the the left. Usually these is a lady sitting there who can tell you everything you need to know about your (and anybody else's ) future. This is a relatively quick method of getting an accurate prediction. Clearly TAT do not have the time or the staff to interview people. And if they did have some quantitative data, the computer would screw it up anyway !
