has to prove he has the set income per month, not just say he has.

They already made clear, that self certification with an embassy stamp on top, are no longer acceptable.

If it keeps going that way, soon the Thai MFA will start pretending all your saving/income to be dropped at their desk, so they can check are real, perhaps they could call it "MFA Sin Sod"....

I just try to take a balanced view of situations , rather than just try to bash Thailand at every available opportunity , and if theres no available opportunity, then trying to find one .

You need to try to integrate into Thailand a bit more , try to be a person living in Thailand, rather then just being a foreigner , an outsider, looking in and comparing everything to the perfect USA World .

I don't think that people complain about Thailand, because it's Thailand, rather because something or someone in Thailand it's giving to them a reason for doing so, and thanks dog for that, as things will never change if no one stand up against what's wrong with the world.

I find extremely disappointing to see someone, willing to take any sort of abuse, only because he's under the illusion that by being exploited, cheated or abused, he will eventually get accepted into the club, it's not going to happen, it doesn't matter on how much you are going to suffer or how many of your fellow citizen you are going to cheat, just to show how willing you are to "integrate", because that's what you really imply there....

Never stop to fight for yours and possibly even other rights people, or it's only going to get worse in the end.

People were usually allowed to a workaround by the use of self-certification, not this time though.

What you are suggesting it's extremely dangerous, the last italian which did that and i know of, was the heir of the Agnelli's family (the tycoon family which own FIAT), if i remember that right, he just changed by himself the date on his passport of a few days because he was too lazy to follow the regular channels, the "allowed until"' date, they banged him up to prison and he died there few years ago, be careful!

All the the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs does is verify the translation of the affirmation of permit to marry is correct. They approve nothing related to marriage.

In this case, how is it possible for them to emanate such an order and having a EU consulate to diligently applying it, and even publishing the news on their official website?

As i previously wrote, probably someone would be able to contact a RELIABLE source inside the MFA to clarify a bit?

Maybe a lawyer or an agent that gets in touch with them regularly, as if anyone else try to do the same by let's say giving them a call or one hundred, i am sure that he will get a different reason and the opposite of it every single time....

According to international laws, an official marriage in a country which is recognized "de Jure" by Thailand is officially recognized in Thailand. However, the marriage of a Thai citizen outside of Thailand has to be registered by an Amphur. The foreign Marriage Certificate has to be translated into Thai and confirmed by the Embassy concerned and then by the consular department of the Thai Ministry of foreign affairs.

So, as the thai MFA it's still involved, and this requirement originated from them, they can possibly still deny to recognise the marriage if no proof of funds it's submitted to them?

Whoever here, has connections (wink wink) at the MFA, should try to find out a bit more, especially if this new rule will apply to all the nationalities of the old continent (EU), as it's often the case, or just to some...

How does one switch of the meter, mine has no on/off switch.

If you can't stop the spinning of your meter, than you are a member of the club i mentioned earlier, which it's just not yet aware of being one.... :welcomeani:

You don't ; you can only insure that all electric using devices are turned off,  much easier if you have a inside circuit box so you can just turn off the master

Obviously it was a case of oversimplify the task, for someone which very likely might not be that familiar with an elcb.

Anyone which has it's personal safety at heart, supposed to have at least a basic circuit breaker installed, unfortunately, often that's not the case, even at dwelling occupied by westerners here....

  8. Simple solution:

Try to unplug/turn off  every single item that sucks electricity, then go to check your meter, if it's still spinning after having done that, chances are that you just joined the club of a few lucky expats here in Los.

After that, switch off completely your meter, soon you will have someone knocking at your door to complain about it, if it's another expat, please ask him under which alias he's posting on this forum, that probably the same guy mentioned earlier by someone else, which run the 3 air con & pool pump for under 1k....

  9. From my understanding, this proof of funding will need to be provided on top of the affirmation of being free to marry, or simply the affirmation could not be provided if no proof of funds it's given.

But the part of it all that really intrigues me, it's this secrecy about how much they actually want to see, the thai MFA doesn't even mention it at all on their website, or at least i haven't being able to spot it

Or did I get it completely wrong and he want to marry in Italy???

No he wants to marry here, and it's the thai ministry of foreign affair which it's making it compulsory to have this proof, so maybe there is a work around?

What about if he marry the thai citizen into a western country, and then ask for the thai side to recognise  the marriage here?

I am not a lawyer, and i think it would be of interest to know the opinion of one of them that it's familiar with these matters.

    and no reason given?

What is his current status of staying in Thailand (visa, extension)?

The reason for rejection was not enough funds and he's being denied a marriage with a thai citizen because of that, he's just a regular visitor which i believe, get a visa exemption because doesn't stay long and its nationality.

This is just another of those additional forms that get on top of all the others, these bureaucrats seems to be loosing their sleep at night, just to think of what might make life for the rest a bit harder....

Surely this last addition, will disrupt the life of countless future families, TIT

Do you have direct experience (or know someone) who has actually been refused?

I have lots and lots of acquaintances, and i managed to get this info second hand from someone which HAS been refused and was just asking me for some sort of guidance, as not everyone in Thailand can manage other lingoes.

So, now the question here is, what i should say to him?

An official website from a branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (italian consulate in Bangkok), it's now warning that the thai Mistery of Faranging Affairs (MFA or somethings like that), will NOT let anyone marry their new found missus, unless they can prove enough funds, (no mentions of the amount, but expect it to be something they would like all the quality tourists inside their wildest dreams to have).

No self certifications accepted, they want to see the money.

You can read it by yourself (use Google Translate or similar, as it's not in english), by going to this link belonging to the italian ministry of foreign affairs (MFA= "Esteri").

    What a crusade! :shock1:

Right, so, let me ask to you, if you don't mind, let's say that all of a sudden you are denied part of the service you paid and agreed for, it can be anything and also the crappier than krapp company can not necessarily be AIS as in this case, so, you can't receive anymore incoming calls, you call the customer service, and they just tell you that they stopped it because they can do whatever they want and without feel even the need to tell you first, as this is basically what it's happening here.

What an intelligent user as you would do? Just say "that's okay, please do whatever you want with me, again and again!", is this what you are trying to imply?

Just asking and curious to know the prospective from another user of this forum...

Im donating as much as i would if someone wanted a life saving operation here. Zero. Ive worked, saved, and cover my own ars. If someone doesnt want to do the same. tough.

I completely disagree with that, life constantly prove to us that an individual can never be in total control of what it's going to happen to them, no matter how well you make your plans or how wealthy you might be, sometime might just be karma....live and learn

Maybe the 13 years of custom, of which the first 3, intermittently, should have suggested to someone that perhaps this was the right till recently, but once a company decide to not to care anymore about their services or products, surely it would be very STUPID to keep continuing using them, because they previously provided a good service?

I am not arguing that there are not stupid people in this world, and especially this forum it's certainly proof that there is no shortages of them...

Somehow this reminds me, of those people that get an amulet on their neck or car, and think that they no need to care anymore about the dangers to which a living thing it's subject, there was an article here sometime ago, just about that, a public figure warning the general public that those amulets would not give you super powers or immortality, always worth to remember (for some)
