Not sure carrying a large amount of currency is advisable I think anymore than 10k dollars US or 10k pounds UK and you will be scrutinised like an international money launderer! SWIFT bank transfer like you said BK bank to US is the way forward, slight pain heading into the branch and stuff (which you would have to do to get currency in any case) but worth it if it is a large amount of money and the cheapest option.

Not sure how 'emerging' these are if you go to Phuket or Pattaya these days, fortunately not as many emerging markets exist in the north of Thailand thankfully.

I have made my thoughts clear on this in many other forums. In the UK the majority of the tax money spent goes to welfare the next highest amount goes to the NHS closely followed by others such as pensions, defence etc I would be happy to pay tax here should I become eligible for social security, income support, pensions or free health care. Can't see that happening, I can't even buy a house here! And I haven't been called a 'grown up' for a while 🙂
