  1. Maintaining a UK address is different to being a UK resident for tax purposes or living in the UK, which is what High Street banks require. Some of the newer Fintech banks are less strict and being able to list a UK address will suffice.
  2. Thais value the life of a foreigner less than they do a bowl of rice. While most of the police have no moral compass and join the force motivated by nothing more than lining their own pockets.
  3. Here's an idea. Just pay the taxes to support and fund the country you live in. If you don't, you have no right to complain about the state of the place.
  4. No prostitution is allowed in Thailand! It is not part of the rich Thai culture.
  5. The artefacts should be repatriated to Cambodia, if anywhere. It was their forefathers who built the mighty Khmer temples and set the foundations for what become Siam. Thailand takes the credit for these ancient monuments, and mantises them for tourist dollars, but they had zero input.
  6. Lower import taxes on western cars and end the dodgy deals that favor Japanese vehicles.
  7. Does anybody have experience of the HSBC expat account? I'm thinking of opening one as they are more expat friendly. The minimum requirement is to keep a balance of 50,000GBP. They also have an InvestDirect account for expats, which is slightly more expensive than other brokers, but HSBC allows non-UK residents to trade in UK markets with such accounts.
  8. Just don't tell them that they're Khmer artefacts! Or that the religion came from India.
  9. This could be done with a little bit of common sense from the check in desk, simply by visually assessing passengers. Oh, wait... Thais don't have common sense or the ability to think for themselves.
  10. A mafia government. Chada Thaiset is one of the worst of the lot. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/chada-thaised-ferocious-opponent-of-pitas-pm-bid-has-a-dark-and-violence-racked-history/
  11. Does anybody know the cost of driving a Khmer registered car from Cambodia into Thailand via the Chong Chom border crossing next to Surin province? The fee seems to be on the Thai side. Or vice versa, the cost of driving a Thai registered car into Cambodia.
  12. Thai politicians don't seem to know what soft power means. It's the idea that a country's legal systems, democracy and social culture are so safe, fair, honest and transparent that they give them a kind of unwritten power and influence in international politics. In Thailand, the Prime Minister came to power through a sham election and dodgy back room deals. The country is notorious for its corruption. They should fix those things first.
  13. Most of the earlier items are from the Khmer empire, so there's a reasonable case that they should be sent to Cambodia.
  14. Perhaps you need to look more deeply into laws before you Google and check the first result.
  15. Sukhumvit Road looks so much better with all the fold-up tables and hand painted food carts selling cannabis, not to mention the gaudy neon-lit shops with cringe-worthy names controlled by money-laundering drug-pushing boiler-room scamming, gogo bar barrow boys from Britain.
  16. Condense it all to two words of point 6: Use Grab during rush hour or in locations where it may be difficult to hail a regular taxi, to reduce conflicts with taxi drivers.
  17. What's the point of these kind of smart arse replies? The forum is for people to ask questions.
  18. According to the friend who posted a YouTube video, he died of a heart attack.
