If you are not getting the eye exam with the intention of buying eyeglasses from the same shop, then I would suggest instead of using a technician with unknown qualifications, you go to Rutnin Eye Hospital (Asok, Petchabury end) where for B1300 you will get a thorough eye exam, not just vision, performed by an opthalamoligist.

Every Dr. I have seen there has spoken excellent English and several had been trained in the US.

www.rutnin.com  Walk-in's accepted but an appointment will save  lot of time.

Thanks Dave I will have a look at that,  I will probably need a new set of glasses and lenses.  Do you know if they will give you the prescription to take to a shop to order new glasses?

  2. Does anyone know or used an Optician in the Sukhumvit area,  who they can recommend.  I need to get my eyes re tested when I get back home.  My prescription is not your average one so a good command of english would be preferred.  I have my old prescription to explain to the Optician  hence the good english needed.

Were they good and were you happy with the professionalism/knowledge of the Optician and the staff

    Thanks in advance

I been doin this with regular bkk bank account for 12 months too. No problem.

If you spend more than 6 months in thailand then this money is taxable at 30% by thailand. However thailand does not tax income from aboard if it is remitted after 1 year of being earnt.

I also agree with above comment about having another account. The more the merrier for many reasons.

Also bkk bank use union pay "debit" cards now which are uselss at 90% of places. Which is why i changed.

Yes they offered me one but I stuck with the Visa Debit card also on offer

Also I will only be in country (Thailand) for 4 months of the year so would i be ok for Tax then?

Shouldn't be a problem,, I guess depending on how long you stay per year in thailand may have some bearing on whether you may be required to pay tax on it or not,, I remember the general feeling was never take money into thailand that was earned in the same year,

Perhaps I am confused? Are you asking that your employer deposit your monthly salary into a Thai bank account via Bangkok Bank in London or are you asking if you can deposit your salary from your own bank account in a Thai account?

The former seems unlikely to me but the latter is rather easily set up. Maybe others have more experience in that regard.

Yes Employer into my Thai Bangkok Bank

  6. Has anyone had any experience with having their wage paid directly in to a bank in Thailand? Namely the Bangkok Bank for me.
The account is a normal savings account with an ATM card
I am a UK citizen working abroad and get paid in Dollars and I have but down to have my money paid in to Thailand. The first lot is due in on the 15th April and I was wondering if anyone else has done this and were there any problems, how much do they charge etc?
I chose to do this rather than have it paid into my UK account and do a $ to £ exchange rate and then have to do a £ to THB exchange rate

  7. ........and the Circus keeps performing.   Well there is one thing, I get a good laugh when I read about it all......I wonder when the US are going to get a president rather than a little school boy who keeps throwing tantrums because he is top of the class.

When I, as a non american was being force fed it everyday on the news, I thought he might do some good....now I am starting to thing maybe the US is going from world leader to world comedy act :coffee1:

Excellent report mate, 36 days in that seat, wow that is a cast-iron backside.

Just 2 days on my Lifan seat was murder, going in next week for a complete seat rebuild. That won't put me in your league, but I do have a few years on you, I should have started earlier and not been so lazy in the interim.

But yes, good inspiration for me, keep up the good whatever.

I keep thinking about upping to a CRF.......mmmm. ££££!!! Hoping I can cross on my 200cc at Nong kai without too much trouble, as lst time the Laos cops said okay, Thai side said no.

    Hi Allan

    Sorry just seen this.

Glad you enjoyed it, you keep it up mate, riding is great, wherever and for how long is not a matter.

  9. I watched Guardians today.  What a load of rubbish.  I didn't realise it was a Russian film.  It was like a poorly dubbed 70's film.  Poor acting, poor dubbed, in fact I wouldn't even say it was a B Movie.  Don't waste your money or download time.

There was quite a bit of action in it but the poor quality of everything else ruined it.  Oh well, it passed 1 hour and 20 mins

Spoke with UK Embassy - unfamiliar with 'Letter to certify passport' assumed I must mean Certified photocopy of passport - I asked if they had a service where they checked that a passport was indeed issued by UKPA and furnished a letter to that effect but it seems not to have rung any bells.

I was lead to understand that The Certified Copy of the Passport is the "this passport was issued by the UKPA and the person on the passport is who they say they are".

  11. I opened two accounts with the Bangkok Bank mid  Jan 2017 and it was easy.

All I need was a certified copy of my UK passport which you can get from the British Embassy on Wireless Road.  I booked  an appointment online.  Then I turned up with proof of my UK address and proof of my Thailand address (I was not asked for either), I think it was about 1400 Baht.  I waited 20 mins for the Certified copy.

The lady behind the glass told me to use the branch of the Bangkok Bank on the 4th Floor of Central Embassy (top of Wireless Road) because they are good and know the score.  The score is that the British Embassy has an agreement with Bangkok Bank but as usual information is not filtered down to all branches or indeed just ignored.

But the lady was true to her word, no dramas what so ever and I even managed to open two accounts, one for me and a joint one with my partner with the one certified copy.
