Do people actually think because they have a gripe with Thailand, the whole world is going to read their post and boycott Thailand. It's doing quite nicely tourist wise, it's not Iraq, Yemen or Somalia. Tourists actually can move around and see lots of things, places in relative safety. The story of someone being fined putting a dent in the tourist industry is just laughable.

That is why I put the coffee at the end, its called being sarcastic and having a dry sense of humour.

Maybe you should try it sometimes

How do you know its not Iraq?  Have you been?  Well I have, for 3 years and I am going back soon

  2. I think the only thing Juncker is botherd about is whether or not he will have a job in the next few years.  Maybe if he didn't try and rule other sovereign countries by telling them what they can and can not do, then the UK promising country A this, country B that and country C something else might be good for the EU.

Juncker stated "And we should not allow the Brits to pursue trade deals now with others because they are not allowed to do so." :cheesy: .  I am afraid we will do what we like...the only reason the rule of "you can not do trade deals with anyone else until you are out of the EU" is to try and stop you leaving.  Get over it Juncker

Banks are not allowed to open an account for tourists.

Yes they are, can and will.  I have just opened two, a saving account with the Bangkok Bank can be opened on a tourist visa.  All I needed was a certified passport copy from my Embassy and the accounts were open at the Bangkok Bank Branch at Central Embassy.  It was painless

Find it difficult to sympathize with the farang.  If you want to come to Thailand and get involve with some Thai ladies what do you expect?

Please don't blame the BIB or the Thais , you come to Thailand, get drunk, fight with locals, offend them,  married their women, you shouldn't be doing any of these things at all. Just have a nice short holiday and leave peacefully. Pay 50 baht more if they ask for it, for heaven sake don't argue and get knife stick in your tummy.

Farangs don't fit into the Thai society- can't they see it?

You must be one of those typical Thai's that thinks respect only goes one way.  Why don't you crawl back under your rock, smoke your Yaba and show some respect for the dead, no matter how it happened.

If you want to air your views on foreigners then start another thread.

I have done 3 trips tp Savannakhet and I was never asked for proof of bank statements or onward travel from Thailand. I have a Kasikornbank account. Will the updated Passbook do as bank proof, not sure what I can do about onward travel? I'm going to Vientiane.

    Any help thanks.

I was there on the 30th Jan and they do ask now (at Savannakhet), I had a photocopy of my Bank book and the original (he asked to see it) which i updated the day I travelled

  6. I was at the Savannakhet Consulate yesterday, 30 Jan 2017. Still a lot of people turned away for 'not knowing'. I attached a copy of my bank book, flight details and my apartment agreement along with all the passport copies etc, and was then asked to produce the originals. Fortunately I had them with me.
The guy behind the glass was getting very irate with some people

I watched Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" last night.

Lost for words to be honest. Outstanding and possibly one of the most brutal and realistic (anti) war movies I have ever seen. Can't recommend it highly enough.

The extraordinary true story of conscientious objector Desmond T. Doss who saved 75 men in Okinawa, during the bloodiest battle of WWII, without firing a single shot.

Yes, I can agree.  Watched it last night, very good

  8. I have just opened two accounts in the Bangkok Bank using a UK Embassy Certified Copy of my passport.  When I was in the Embassy the lady at the  counter said that the UK Embassy and the Bangkok Bank have an arrangement that the Certified passport copy is enough to get an account.  She also stated that its not filtered down to all Branches (no shock there).  She advised the Branch at Central Embassy Shopping Complex, I went with my partner..all very painless

At the moment I am still on a tourist visa
