  14. The US advised not to buy kits from this manufacturer in China due to them being so ineffective. The Rural Doctors Society in Thailand did the same, Prayut at one point indicated that they would not go ahead with the order, low and behold, Thailand purchased 8.5 million of these kits that are not worthy of being used with such a high rate of inaccuracy.
  15. High-quality tourism dream may be making the COVID-19 crisis for the industry even worse The Phuket sandbox only achieved 38,000 visitors in its opening three months, nearly 20% of whom were returning Thais while the scheme has generated a large amount of criticism and negative reaction from both the international travel industry and tourists taking part for being too regulated, complicated and in particular, for the excessive cost and frequency of Covid 19 PCR tests for already fully vaccinated visitors. Small business owners on Phuket say the scheme only benefits expensive hotels and resorts on the island In Phuket itself, this has very much become a political issue with thousands of small entrepreneurs and unemployed workers in the island feeling excluded from the Sandbox scheme which they say only benefits a tiny coterie of expensive hotel properties and wealthy investors on the island. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2021/10/05/high-quality-tourism-goal-makes-crisis-worse/

  19. Benefits of Pfizer far outweigh the risk, says DDC chief, as vaccination drive for students continues The Public Health Ministry said it will continue giving male students their first Pfizer jab but will monitor them for side effects in line with recommendations from Thailand’s Royal College of Paediatricians. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said symptoms of myocarditis and pericarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle and pericardium, were detected in some of the 12 to 17-year-old boys who had received the mRNA vaccine. “In Thailand, four out of 130,000 boys who received two Pfizer jabs developed myocarditis, so we have decided to double-jab female students and give male students just one jab. We believe the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the side effects,” he said. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40007064

Gaining traction on some travel websites now also: Thailand’s timing out on welcome tax BANGKOK, 5 October 2021: The timing is out on Thailand’s announcement that it will impose an additional THB500 fee on foreigners entering the country sometime next year. Someone has lost touch with the bellwether’s warning that travellers are fed up with the increased costs associated with a visit to Thailand. Yet it is about to add another cost, and it won’t go down well with leisure travellers keen to keep travel expenses down in the wake of Covid-19. Thailand To Impose New Tourist Tax Next Year The extra capital is also intended to help the country restructure its industry from mass tourism to a high-value economic model and environmentally concerned type of tourism. It’s also meant to help bankroll budget insurance offerings for foreign visitors and other development initiatives run by the government, rather than the private sector.
