  1. Sure don't sound like the Thai Airways I knew from years past that ran "Smooth as Silk" Managment changes can do it everytime. I must admit I have heard similar complaints from Thai Nationals :o One Thai Lady friend say she almost got arrest during a complaint over her damage luggages, luckily cool heads prevail she said an all ended well. :D

  2. I dont know about most of you though but many times and honestly I dont know how many forums I have seen about samui bashing, I am trying to be on more of a positive front with these although my post does involve buying and consumerism and working here to. Anyway here goes

Samui = Choices and lots of them ( bangkok air and thai airways dont count though )

have local thai mini mart / 7-11 or family mart

have local thai grocery / have makro, tesco, big c

can easily go see the beach everyday (can't do that back home, as the nearest beautiful beach is 5 hours away )

I can buy a pirated movie or go see it at tesco

Eating out, everything I have found from 35 baht to 500 plus if you like

Roads are not perfert but they could always be much worse

I at least try to talk with the thai's and smile. and most smile back

Dont speak thai no problem / many thai's can speak english

For renting or buying a house got choices to seen all kinds of prices

Want to go drinking, have lots of places depending on what environment you want from the green mango to tropical murphy's to the Q bar

Massage 3 different kinds on this island ( naughty, the small thai massage place that charges 300 baht, or a spa

You can drive around if you like or been lazy and get a cab ( dont start about the taxi mafia thing not interested in hearing it )

Never truly stuck here can catch a fairy go to the mainland and drive or fly out of samui

Hospitals or Pharmacy at least the island has hospitals be glad for that

Have bookzine always can get a paper in english

anyways I know this forum isn't probably the best but samui isn't the worst place in the world it needs improvement I know but I will still call it home for now

Enjoy!! An enjoyable place to say the least, but remember the biggest room of all is the room for improvement. :o

  3. Thaksin not attending sister's funeral

BANGKOK: -- Fugitive exprime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will miss the memorial service for his elder sister Yaowaluck, his younger sister said Sunday.

Yingluck said Thaksin was shocked to learn of the passing of his sister and was particularly saddened as he was out of the country.

Yaowaluck, 63, who had been in and out of hospital because of kidney problems, died on Saturday night after her condition worsened following a blood infection. She was admitted to hospital on April 16, 2008.

"After being informed of the loss, Thaksin telephoned all his brothers and sisters, saying he could not return home to attend the funeral," Yingluck said.

Yaowaluck was the first of nine children born to Lert and Yindee Shinawatra. Thaksin was the second.

For the past year, Thaksin has been hopping from one country to another after skipping bail and being sentenced in absentia to two years imprisonment for tax evasion.

RIP Khun Yaowaluck. :o:D:D At this point in time, in my humble opinion for the good of the Thai people it is wise that Mr Thaskin do not return.

  4. I found it quite nice, relaxing a great to escape all the nonsense, noise etc of city. We loved will return often, sure as heck beat pattaya for this old cowboy and my mate. But if you are looking for the bright lights, the pretty show girls by all means pattaya is your place. ENJOY!! :o

  5. All the legal, talk is enough to give even the best lawyer a headache, to keep it simple my guess is you can continue to stay as long as you pay> bills etc etc, unless there is a greedy relative with some bahts, then you might be shown the door, pack your bags and go. I think it is always wise for a farangs to keep a different account from the Thai wife, because as we all know things can and do sometime go wrong. :o

  6. If there are such laws they are useless, not enforce at all. There is a Wat about 1km away from my place and once in awhile they do an all nighter, I've got use to it and just tune out with the help of so good ear Plugs. :o:D

  7. Just return from a four days trips to Isan, Khon Kane and Udonthani, on our return to the Airport (ring road near Air port) they are opening a Carrfour Center. My friend's wife say it will be open on 1 April 09./no April fool I hope. Look like the work is almost complete, put the final touches on car park. So to all my friends and those who might visit soon HAPPY SHOPPING!! :wai::P:D:D:D:o:D

  8. Last week, knowing I was going to spend the day in a bus, I took a book from my bookshelf to read during my trip. It was a book from Jennifer Bliss about “The life and times of Bernard Trink, Bangkok’s Nite Owl”.

I don’t know if younger members are familiar with Mr Trink, but once you have read his column, you can’t forget him

For the people old enough to remember him (not that old actually, his last columns were in 1993, but were very different from the original ones), what did you think of his column ? I remember reading it with ambivalent feelings, believing he belongs to a a different time, long past, but at the same time appreciating his straight forward opinion that never sacrificed to the “politically correct” of our time.

NUFF SAID :D:o For sure miss his weekly column in the BP>
