  1. Durians for EV’s. Sharp as a tack those boys at the top
  2. Not kidding. I had to walk for 10 minutes to find a 7-11!
  3. Wife says these are all places where contact tracing has someone who tested positive for Covid
  4. My wife’s family are from Phrae, there isn’t a province less explored and less touristy anywhere in Thailand
  5. We’ve just come from Bangkok, CM isn’t that exciting anymore it’s true, but first time I’ve been here in January for 15 years so enjoying the cool weather at least
  6. You must be a mind reader! That is where we’re going tomorrow
  7. Yeah, did the temples yesterday including wat ched yod which was a new one for us, very cool indeed. Only here to wait for wife’s family to pick us up Monday to go back to Phrae. had to do an extended 10 day isolation before going back to family just in case.
  8. Think we figured that out. Went to Tong Tem Toh for lunch and it was heaving. Seems more normal there, old town like a cemetery!
  9. This is quite apt for me and the mrs, we checked into a hotel booked through agoda yesterday in chiang mai, but checked out after an hour as hotel was nothing like the one promised in photos, in fact it was a dump, no food at all, no restaurant only ay to get food was by grab and this was rated as 4* on Agoda I was furious as we paid for 4 nights, but they had a no refund policy, so only thing left is to leave a stinking review. Will wait until I’m out of the country though! ????????????
  10. I know this is a silly tourist question and I wouldn’t normally ask, but having just arrived and found the old town to be like a set from a dystopian zombie movie, there is no life at all, is anything actually still open? Weekend Markets etc it took us 45 minutes to find a decent place to eat last night. Would not have believed how bad things had got unless I had seen it with my own eyes
  11. Sometimes the problem is not with the tests but with how they are used. Swabbing nasal passages is just not enough, must do throat as well. Lots of posts on Twitter about this from those who are definitely positive, but get a negative ATK if just doin nasal swab
  12. Test and go seems a bit half a*sed. There seems to be no walk in at all for 2nd test and trying to find a slot for booking is taking ages. Piyavate for example has 2 day waiting list unless you pay 5000bt for express services As usual, nothing is straightforward here
  13. I just assumed the second test mentioned was actually the day 5-7 test, and there is no guidance I have read about what you should do while awaiting results. I mean we could fly up to CM and do our test on day 7 after flying, instead of day 5, so the whole thing is open to interpretation
  14. Yes you are, no one mentioned anything about having to stay in one place when we arrived. Doing my 5 day test today before flying (if negative) tomorrow to chiang mai. if the results don’t arrive before our flight, not sure what they expect us to do?
  15. You loon. The variant has only been around about 45 days yet you’re claiming facts about how it behaves with vaccines after 90 days. god give me strength to deal with all the loonies
  16. Mad to travel now? Yes probably, but wife hasn't seen family for 2 years so we're coming. Life in the UK with current omicron surge feels no different to a few weeks ago except more people are wearing masks, which is a good thing, so I expect life in Thailand will be pretty much the same as before as well. We're not tourists so won't be doing tourist things, no bars, no clubs, no busy tourist hotspots. If we don't come now, it's unlikely we could get there until October, which is too long to wait. Things with Omicron in Thailand will probably reach a peak in a months time or so, and the opportunity to skip full quarantine by doing test & go is just too good to miss.
  17. Hold your breath, lift your mask, food goes in, mask down. Not perfect but this is what I will do. btw N95 just means guaranteed to be 95% efficient, but in practice because of covid particle size they are >99% efficient https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7501836/
  18. FFP2 and N95 masks will prevent 99.9% of airborne covid particles. It's going to have to be someone coughing into your face to get past that
