On any aircraft it is recommended that you sit in your assigned seat with your seat belt fastened, unless you are going to the toilet etc, this is for safety. I was told the exact opposite. I went thru the fastrak and asked an IO and was told its ok to use them. Surely the computer/data base is intelligent to figure it out if your passport/extension of stay etc is ok to go thru, or if not it would be flagged?
