Birth rate plunge triggers health minister’s urgent action plan
DrPhibes replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I volunteer! I have a 21, 19, and 5yr old from the same woman. The first 2 made on the night we wanted to mak'm, the 5yr old was the only 1x unprotected moment of passion in 15yrs. Of course it helps she comes from an Issan lineage where the women have kids until almost 50! 65 with a 5yr old, not sure if keeping me young or wearing me out faster! Seriously though, there are too many of us to support well by the world's ecology. I think 3 billion tops and well separated to keep enough genetic diversity would be fine. Yes, economies will have to adapt. -
Some of the US tax treaties exempt certain types of income from being taxed by a foreign country. Each of us need to now research our home countries tax treaties with Thailand. I use a different method. The current law states income earned and then brought in the same year is taxable to a tax resident. I have a separate bank account in the US to season the money I earn until after the 1st of the next year and then use that money to live here for that next yr. Have 3 accounts for this cycle. All well documented. Hope this helps. BTW, leaving with family in June for a couple of years to see how things pan out here. Did this back when it looked like Thailand was going to Civil War way back in '06.

Ya, after this sham of an election and what may come of it and having a now 5yr old, we have decided to move to another country next June and sit out a couple of years before making the decision to move back. We did this before with our much older kids back in 2006. -

Cost and cover of medical insurance at an old age
DrPhibes replied to KUGS's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Thanks for the tip. Really only looking for catastrophic insurance, I can take care of the rest out of pocket. Anything chronic or not time critical I can go back to the US and use Medicare. -
Wow, 65, slightly elevated (not high) BP (in check by the most minor of medication) but nothing else. Had dropped my private US insurance that was costing me nearly $1,300 USD/mo when I hit US Medicare earlier this year but now need 5mo of coverage while in LOS before heading back to the US. The coverage here in LOS is nuts bad. I don't need life Ins and the roughly $2,000 USD per year (can only be paid yearly) being quoted pays jack s__t per Confinement (which, while there is an asterisk on it, is never defined). I agree with others in this thread in that companies like Cigna Global might be a little bit more expensive, but way better coverage. Going that route...

Went to file my 1st extension based on a multiple entry non-imm O based on marriage Aug 11th. Turns out somewhere along the line I had lost my TM30 out of my passport. Immigration high up friend of ours said no problem, if you have an old one, just show them that. Arrived to an absolute zoo at the airport immigration office. Turns out they were still processing people who they turned away the day before but who had numbers already (and it was the day before the 3 day weekend) but we needed to do it that day for numerous reasons. Anyway, once they checked all the packet copies numerous times, they decided I needed to go over to the TM30 place in the back and get an updated one. Bad luck as the TM 30 place had just closed for lunch, so very quick lunch and back to get in line for TM 30. Only had to wait for 5 people and then obtained the new TM 30 copy in a few minutes. Back to the document check area (directly back to the window we were at prior, no waiting) and off with our number we go into the main building. Had to wait about 5 minute to get called, turned in paper work, waited another 15min and then got called to take a pic and receive my passport back with a return date for the extension stamp of Sept 22. Did not check before I left (my fault). I thought the wait time was 30 days? Missing something?

Retirement extension bank statements
DrPhibes replied to zlodnick's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just putting in my 1st extension based on marriage tomorrow and immigration wants a statement from the bank that I have had the required 400k in the bank and a separate official bank printout of my account for the last 2 months (had them print 3mo) as part of the package. 2 copies of each form at 100 baht each so 400 baht total from BKK bank. The problem with updating the bankbook (not done in quite a while) is it did not update everything so official print out was the ticket. -
Volunteer just shoved 2 copies of 4 docs (one being the page for the map) said that's what you need and then immediately sat back at her table and took on the next person asking for help (with 4 people behind them waiting). To be honest, the place was a zoo at that time. Was hoping something in the paperwork.

Hi All, Going to do the extension of my Non-O multiple entry visa based on marriage at CM immigration. 400k+ of money seasoned as of today. Does anyone have a list of all that is needed for CM immigration for this extension? I went to the immigration office by the airport and was handed forms but there was no list of supporting docs or pictures or etc... like there used to be. Then went to the CM immigration website but I know the list of docs and info is incomplete for this type of extension. Also, can this extension be done online? I saw that some extensions can be done but they want you to set up an account first to see which. Lastly, I would imagine once the application has been submitted, I would not have to cross a border at the end of my 90 days on the multiple entry visa, but I think I would have to do a 90 day reporting, correct? All help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
