Has to be done where your address is. You cannot pop in some random office.

However you have mail and online option.

Have seen in another post that your 1st ever one had to be in person, that is the hitch if true.  I won't be anywhere near Chiang Mai close to the time this 1st report is due. Have used multiple non-O's always in the past and just hop over the border and back so never had to do a 90 report until this 1st one coming up in Feb (about to be confirmed for extension based on marriage).   I think it best to head over to CM immigration Wed and see what they say.  Will report back what I find out. Thanks for the help.

  2. There is a very good chance I will not be in Chiang Mai when my 1st 90 day reporting is due in person.  Heading out for a few months down south to escape the burn season.   Does 90 day reporting have to be done at the immigration office of your home or can you pop into any immigration office to do it in person?  Thanks in advance!

  3. Somewhat on topic, went in to Chiang Mai yesterday to do my first extension based on marriage so got my under consideraton stamp.  Also in my passport was placed a piece of paper stating I would be doing my first 90 day reporting Feb 14th, instead of 90 days from my original entry date of Aug 31st.  Does this sound correct?

Other info (like how much do I make) and proposed home visit from immigration needing 2 witnesses not normally seen on TV for CM immigration.  Maybe for CM specific area.

Clogged fan is highly unlikely to cause high CPU usage. Install one of the utilities BigStar recommended to check the CPU and other temps. Personally I like to use the utility 'Core Temp' that allows you to display the CPU speed and temps near your clock. Check your CPU temps when the laptop is running normally, CPU running continually at 100% will drive the temperatures up clogged fan or not.  If your hardware temps are in a normal range then odds are your fan is not severely clogged. You can dangle a sliver of toilet paper over a fan vent to see if air is getting pushed out.

If your CPU usage starts running at 100% again use TaskManager and sort by the CPU column on the Processes tab to show what process is causing the problem.

Wouldn't hurt to free up some space on your hard drive too though that won't be causing your current problems.

Openhardwaremonitor is another free tool to measure temps/CPU speed/etc...  Have a couple of programs that really draw on the I7 CPU at startup and doing certain functions, close to max fan usage.  Went in and played with the CPU max % in POWER section of Win10.  Found knocking the CPU max % down to 97% really made a difference with no noticeable degradation in performance.  Keeping temp spikes down goes a long way to help CPU life.

Some devices work for a long time. I.e. ThinkPad business notebooks are sturdy and drivers are still available for a long time.

I have one of those which is now about 10 years old. The following problems happen at some stage - even if in theory all still works.

    - The RAM is non enough anymore and it is not possible to upgrade anymore

    - The BIOS and functionality is limited. I.e. it's possible to change the HDD to a SSD but the new SSD is not as fast as it would be in a new computer.

    - Heat, CPU: Clean it with compressed air or a vacuum cleaner  and make sure the fan still works.

    - CPU at 100%: Let it run and update for a few hours and look again. If a notebook with Windows 10 is not used for a week or a month often lots of updates want to be installed and that takes a long time. Just let it run and if necessary reboot if necessary.

    - Battery and other parts: At some stage it's impossible or very expensive to get spare parts like a battery.

About how much longer depends a lot on what you do. I.e. if you want to install the newest browser to look at the newest websites then one day you won't have enough RAM anymore. It depends how much you use it for "new" technology like websites which don't work on "old" technology anymore.

May have to look also at the heat transfer paste between the CPU and the heat sink on a machine that old.  Have a 2013 Dell Precision M4800 with an aftermarket 1TB SSD and upgraded to 16GB ram on upgraded Win10 Pro (came with 7 Pro).  While it runs better than new at this point, I recently realized newer BT headsets will not pair due to hard wired version problems ????

My parents unfortunately moved into an elderly home in Europe recently.

I haven't seen the room yet, as I can't return to Thailand if I travel there, but I very much doubt they are even 31sqm.

They have 2 adjoined rooms, because one room would be too small for 2 people, and they pay over 80.000 Baht per month. EACH.

For that they don't get even their clothes washed, but have to let relatives take care of that.

No they didn't select the most luxury elderly home, they choose the CHEAPEST one which was within reasonable distance for the family to visit, and it is in an urban area./

Maybe the cynics on this forum should get a life, because makes me sick to the stomach

And is why I keep a suicide clause in my life insurance active.  If I can not take care of myself and am not getting better ever, why would I subject my family to the prolonged pain, both from a psychological and monetary point of view, for what is eventually coming anyway.  If you have lived your life as fully as you want, be greateful.

  7. Let's get the tech details of this straight:

"How will it be distributed? At present, BioNTech’s vaccine (Pfizer) must be stored at approximately minus 75 degrees Celsius while being transported, making it difficult to deliver to developing countries without robust logistics infrastructure. The vast majority of doses available in the next year, however, have already been bought by the US, EU and Japan, where shipping hypercold products is far easier. Once it arrives in clinics, the vaccine — which can be kept at approximately minus 75C for up to six months — can survive in a normal fridge for up to 5 days."

    Take it from there everyone.

Don't forget about the thousands of unlicensed hotels already operating here which the government recently gave an amnesty to, those 'vultures' have been here a lot longer than this website.

This article is ridiculous, there is a freelancer visa coming next month from the Board of Investment, which would allow remote workers & digital nomads to live and work here legally (currently there is no law to regulate this industry.) However, there is no demand for foreigners to come here yet... the entry requirements are far too onerous and renting a place under 30 days is illegal.

    This bit in particular tickled me;

87% Of Thai people found work-cations appealing, then it starts talking about digital nomads! Would it not be better to talk about which percentage of digital nomads/remote workers found it appealing to come to Thailand?

This looks like it was supposed to be targeted to Thai people doing work-cations around the Kingdom given the article beginning and then cut and pasted the bulk of the rest of the article from one that targets people coming from overseas to do work-cations with no regard to the current problems exiting and re-entering the Kingdom.

  9. O2 was very much an average hotel at 38,000 for the 2 weeks that also had a balcony with a chair (not much of a view but somewhere to sit with coffee as the sun rose).  They had a C-19/general health screen set up in a room off from the hotel entrance and you were tested on the way in.  Food was street food quality and you did get a choice of 3 for each meal and one was always vegetarian but all Thai food, no western.  There was an optional menu you pay extra for but it was more of the same.  Portions were meager, heavy on rice.  They start you off with a bunch of water and instant coffee/creamer/sugar but it all ran out about the last 3 days of quarantine and you had to purchase more (trivial amounts).  The TV was strictly Thai channels, half of which were educational during the day.  Actually sat in on some physics, organic chemistry, and material science classes, no such thing as an ex-engineer.  I also had work/Netflix/video with the family/exercising to keep me busy.  The two weeks actually flew by.

My wife went early Oct. from Los Angeles for $1058 one way  (Asiana Airlines) on a package put together by the LA Thai consulate....

In her group were also people from Chicago, NYC, Wash.DC and San Fran... So many consulates are feeding into the groups until they are full, then shift to alternate dates...

The one way price includes 14 days stay in Quarantine Hotel (ALL MEALS included), And a minimum price package Hotel was very good (she has stayed in Marriot and Sheratons and knows the best so she was quite impressed) For the price and near the airport.... She said that service was 5-star....... At the end she was tested once again and Put on a bus to her home in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) all in the price..... I will use my 'Miles' for a free one-way ticket for her to come home in January....

Important..... She had to renew and have a 'current Thai Passport to use for the one way Repatriation flight but will fly out of Thailand on her USA Passport and enter the US with it....

If you like to chat for more info feel free to PM me and I will furnish my Phone for chat.....

I might also add that she found 'MANY' helpful videos on YouTube that she watched before signing up at the consulate......  She paid an agent across the street from the consulate $200 to arrange it too..... but well worth it........ I can find number for agent if helpful for you....

I might add that in her group there was a couple American Husbands who went with their Thai wives.... all set up by the Thai consulates...

Wow, the LA Consulate has come a long way from August when you had set up flights and ASQ yourself (very stressful) with Korean costing about $1200USD one way and the 14 day mid-range hotel costing $1250USD.  Do love the help Bernard has given at the LA Consulate over the years!

    CM immigration ........... arrrrrrgggggggggg!

Went for a 1 year family extension, had the list they gave me, had copies of everything on the list prepared.

    At the ticket counter ......

Map no good, has to be on our paper x2, can I stick my map on your paper, no draw it again now x2. (GPS co-ords not required)

(Why didn't they give me their 'map form' when I collected the list and 4x forms?)

    At the family desk .......

All the passport page copies NOT directly related to my current application filed in the bin (10 pages x2).

Where is the copy of your kids hospital notification of birth? Not on the list so I haven't got it.

    (Bring it next year)

Another form to sign after questioning from the family officer ........

How long have you been in Thailand? (age of my kid + 9 months)

How much is your monthly income (why do you need to know, I have 400k in the bank).

How much do you spend every month?

What are your mother and father names ...... (why?)

At least it was quick, in and out in 90 minutes.

Ya, I'll be going about 1.5 weeks before I can submit paperwork (seasoning money) for the "latest" set of paperwork requirements.  Thanks for the heads up.

Your marriage certificate and copies of it will be accepted. It only needs to be translate if not in english.

Sorry for being a bit ignorant on this topic so our marriage certificate from the US with the stamped Thai translation stapled to it is what you use instead of Kor Ror 2 for a marriage extension?  We are getting different signals from TV and the company that occasionally helps us (no, not a fixer) with this stuff.  Thanks in advance.

Do you have the original US marriage certificate?

My understanding is that you won't be able to obtain the required kor ror 22.

Your US marriage certificate must be legalized first. Otherwise it's not admissible in Thailand.

There are multiple threads here describing the steps on how to get it legalized.

Has been translated and stamped, just can't find where a Kor Ror 3 or 2 have been done.  Thanks!

  14. Thanks ttkeric, am going in for my 1st extension based on marriage ever around the 16th of Nov.  I have a multiple entry non-O based on marriage which is all I have ever used while living here in CM the last 4 yrs since I normally go back to the US for a couple of months each year (not this year!).  A few Q's to the list if you don't mind.

Were the items on the list just single copies of the originals or did you have to have multiple copies of some items (aside from passport pic)?

    - Application forms and the usual assortment of forms the helpful volunteers at the front would hand to you.

What forms and did you need and did they have to be filled out hand written in blue ink?

    - 2 visa size 4cmx6cm photos (1 for each form).

          Got it.

    - Your passport (just photocopy everything, every stamp, etc)

Every page, even blank one, or just any page with anything on it?

    - Kor ror 2

Wife is confused on this one.  We were married outside of the US and do not remember registering the marriage in LOS

    - Marriage cert

          Have it

    - Wife's ID card

          Have it

    - House book

Rent so will bring rental agreement and her registry book (not CM)

    - Kids Birth certs, house books.

Got it, kids born in the US.  Need Thai translation?

    - Map to house

Map to house from where?  Have seen from major road to home and some saying from immigration office to home

    - 2 pictures indoors and 2 out

            Got it

    - TM30

            Got it

    - 90 Day report slip (I do mine online, so no slip. Didn't bother to print).

Will do my 1st one after paperwork submitted since not due until then

    - Letter from Bank

Will inquire, word on the street is must be dated within a few days of submitting paperwork

    - Bank book showing 400k, updated with the balance day of submitting paperwork

Ya, transferred the $ into my own account while I was in quarantine realizing that crossing a border was not an option anymore

Thank you very much for any input on this!
