Thaksin reaffirms return, contemplates Pheu Thai need to change
dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So you have this article stating: "Despite this, Thaksin reaffirmed his belief in Pheu Thai’s democratic spirit, stating that he expects the party to vote for the MFP’s Prime Minister candidate, irrespective of the circumstances." and another article stating "Olarn said Pheu Thai would have to consider whether working with Move Forward was a good choice to pave the way for Thaksin’s return. But he doubts Pheu Thai will opt to ally with Move Forward and risk a collision with the elites." Interesting times if Phue Thai decides to form it's own coalition which would leave MFP high and dry although winning the election and pretty well all of Bangkok at odds with Puue Thai and a military coaltion. I still can't see a PT coalition with minor military parties happening. One thing is for certain and that is the future of Thailand is uncertain. -
Abhisit may return as leader of the Democrat Party

The Democrats and BJT have 2 options as I see it. Spport MFP or support a miltary backed govt. If they do the latter both parties will be decimated at the next election. -

Ok. Do it and join with MFP to make up for your last very poor decision. That would make an 8 party coalition (LOL) with I think 398 seats.405(?) seats. Well more than enough to take the 250 completely out of consideration in naming the new PM. -
Military-backed senators refuse to back MFP form a government

There are 4 other minor parties not associated with the current regime. BJT would make a 7 party coalition. -

Well the military backing PT is something I would be very suprised to see. And if it happens PT getting in bed with the military will lose their voting public. Next election MFP will have the votes of their own support base and the majority of PT to go with it. Just like the Democrats it would IMO be political suicide. -
What is Next for Thailand’s Political Future after the Election

Grow up or military rule. The latter will be a blood bath. -

Covid-19 cases surge 39% in a week, public urged to take precautions
dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is complete nonsense. People in high risk groups have to look after themselves. This is the reality. People with auto immune disease have to look after themselves. That's what happens. That is reality. It's life so get on with it. -

So Europe, America, Uk, Australia etc where masks have come off all these countries and people are setting a bad example. You can't be serious. People have accepted that it's Omicron and is for the majority a non serious and non fatal virus. -

Vaccine boosters will not stop a person catching or spreading the virus. The efficacy of masks is questionable. People take their masks down to eat. People take their masks down to sneeze. People wear their mask around their chin. People pull their mask down to talk on the phone. Masks are poorly fitted etc. Again there were basically no masks to be seen on the election coverage. Presenters not wearing them. Politicians not wearing them. Supportes not wearing the and journalists not wearing them. We're talking thousands of people live on TV. -

Did you watch any of the election coverage? No masks stacks of people all in an indoor setting. -
Thai senators come under pressure over PM vote
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"Pita is in the process of forming a coalition government with Pheu Thai and some smaller parties, which could amass a voting bloc of 310 votes in parliament. Pita needs 376 members of a joint sitting to vote for him to become prime minister, meaning that he would need 66 military-appointed senators to vote for him." Not if BJT join the coalition. Then it's done. They have BJT's 70 (?) seats giving the coalition 379 (?) seats. No need for the military buffoons votes.- 89 replies

Covid-19 cases surge 39% in a week, public urged to take precautions
dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Of course covid has not gone away and it won't. It's a virus. People get sick and go to hospital. Are they sick from covid or are they sick from something else and have Covid? We are not told. We are not told what variant is circulating. We are not told about comorbidities in serious cases or death. We are not told if deaths are from or with Covid/Omicron. Without this important information these become just numbers either attributable or not to Covid/Omicron. One would now expect another spike after the election weekend where basically no masks were in sight. Will this be the case? Will all the politicians and journalists who were not wearing masks become ill and go to hospital or die? -

Change of government. Pita has already stated a new constitution will be written. -

Yes. If the bill is passed. Do you think a majority opposition who have a massive mandate from the people will pass any bills? -

It will happen if an MFP coalition can form a majority government. -

dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes but then in the House of Reps you would have an unworkable minority government because even with the military backed minor parties the BJT minor party coalition would be massively out voted. Remember the 2 houses coming together is only for electing the PM. Then the PM forms the cabinet. The senate has no vote in the house on passing or rejecting bills. The majority oppostion will reject everything. There will be a call of no confidence and the military appointed govt collapses. -

Yes eventually the constitution will be rewritten and the senate reformed. We have to wait and see what will happen with coalitions 1st. -

4 days ago no one thought that MFP would be 1st in the popular vote. Things change. As they say a day is a long time in politics. -

You seem to have missed the point entirely. A coalition with BJT party means the coaltion of MFP+PT+BJT+4 minor parties gives them enough seats to out vote the miltary backed minor parties and the 250 senators combined for who becomes PM. If this happens I still think Pita will be PM but Anutin will want something senior. Also if this happens it's bye, bye to the military placed senators. The constitution will be re-written and the senate reformed.
