Covid-19 cases surge 39% in a week, public urged to take precautions
dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Vaccine boosters will not stop a person catching or spreading the virus. The efficacy of masks is questionable. People take their masks down to eat. People take their masks down to sneeze. People wear their mask around their chin. People pull their mask down to talk on the phone. Masks are poorly fitted etc. Again there were basically no masks to be seen on the election coverage. Presenters not wearing them. Politicians not wearing them. Supportes not wearing the and journalists not wearing them. We're talking thousands of people live on TV. -

Did you watch any of the election coverage? No masks stacks of people all in an indoor setting. -
Thai senators come under pressure over PM vote
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"Pita is in the process of forming a coalition government with Pheu Thai and some smaller parties, which could amass a voting bloc of 310 votes in parliament. Pita needs 376 members of a joint sitting to vote for him to become prime minister, meaning that he would need 66 military-appointed senators to vote for him." Not if BJT join the coalition. Then it's done. They have BJT's 70 (?) seats giving the coalition 379 (?) seats. No need for the military buffoons votes.- 89 replies

Covid-19 cases surge 39% in a week, public urged to take precautions

Of course covid has not gone away and it won't. It's a virus. People get sick and go to hospital. Are they sick from covid or are they sick from something else and have Covid? We are not told. We are not told what variant is circulating. We are not told about comorbidities in serious cases or death. We are not told if deaths are from or with Covid/Omicron. Without this important information these become just numbers either attributable or not to Covid/Omicron. One would now expect another spike after the election weekend where basically no masks were in sight. Will this be the case? Will all the politicians and journalists who were not wearing masks become ill and go to hospital or die? -
Military-backed senators refuse to back MFP form a government

Change of government. Pita has already stated a new constitution will be written. -

Yes. If the bill is passed. Do you think a majority opposition who have a massive mandate from the people will pass any bills? -

It will happen if an MFP coalition can form a majority government. -

Yes but then in the House of Reps you would have an unworkable minority government because even with the military backed minor parties the BJT minor party coalition would be massively out voted. Remember the 2 houses coming together is only for electing the PM. Then the PM forms the cabinet. The senate has no vote in the house on passing or rejecting bills. The majority oppostion will reject everything. There will be a call of no confidence and the military appointed govt collapses. -

Yes eventually the constitution will be rewritten and the senate reformed. We have to wait and see what will happen with coalitions 1st. -

4 days ago no one thought that MFP would be 1st in the popular vote. Things change. As they say a day is a long time in politics. -

You seem to have missed the point entirely. A coalition with BJT party means the coaltion of MFP+PT+BJT+4 minor parties gives them enough seats to out vote the miltary backed minor parties and the 250 senators combined for who becomes PM. If this happens I still think Pita will be PM but Anutin will want something senior. Also if this happens it's bye, bye to the military placed senators. The constitution will be re-written and the senate reformed. -

What senators? Coalition with BJT takes the senators out of the picture. Where do I say I support Anutin for PM? Can you show me? I do wonder if he'll be asking for this in any coalition deal with MFP though. -

No deals needed with the senate. Coalition with BJT will do it. -

How will any legislation be passed in a minority govt.? The majority opposition simply votes against everything. It's unworkable. As for a new election that is exactly what can happen when a vote of no confidence in the minority govt and the PM would be passed by the majority opposition. The Senate only has the vote when both houses come together to elect the PM. Why you think the MFP and PT would be defunct needs some elucidation. -

PT now hold a lot of power. What will they do. If they form a coalition with MFP and with the other 4 parties then any govt put in by the military will be in minorirty in the House of Reps. A minority govt. cannot survive. If they form a coalition with minor military parties they will lose their voter base as the people who voted for PT were also voting for change. IMO the military are looking for trouble so they can move in with another coup. BJT would give them enough seats I think. -

Watching the election Sun night there was basically not a mask to be seen yet the fear mongering continues. A friend told he knows someone who is going for their 6th jab. Again the inpatient numbers do not say if it's incedental i.e. gone to hospital for something else and covid has been detected or the age and comorbidity status of the patients. Covid is here to stay and let's just hope it remains the non severe, non fatal (for the majority) Omicron strain. -
Talks in forming coalition have yet to start – Pheu Thai leader
dinsdale replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Political analysts speculate that despite Pheu Thai’s declared support for Pita, the former biggest opposition party stands ready to form a coalition itself in the event that Pita cannot muster enough parliamentary support to be prime minister. There were rumours prior to the election that Pheu Thai had entered into a secret pact with the military-supported Palang Pracharat Party to form coalition." I really, really hope this isn't the case. Not sure how this would help getting Thaksin back. -
If the military senators prevail and insert a minority govt then then the coalition can bring parliment to a stand still and have a vote of no confidence agaist the minority govt which they will win. The people will not stand for a minority military govt. It will be interesting but I still think the senators will abandon Prayut.

Election Commission Concludes Unofficial Election Results
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I hope you're wrong too because if you're not this country will explode. I think arrests would be looking on the bright side. There will be mass protests, the military will plant bombs like they did the last time and move in with another coup. Then blood will be spilt and this country will slide into ruin. I don't underestimate these mongrels but I also don't underestimate the Thai people. Let's hope sanity prevails and the will of the people wins out. -

A clear mandate for change. I thought they would get >80%. The big take from this though is that out of the 39 million that voted MFP and PT represents around 24-25 million of that vote. That's a lot of people who are sick and tired of the military in govt. and want change. I don't think you can get a clearer mandate. It's also a lot of people who will not be happy if they are not listened to when it comes to the election of PM or worse one or both of the parties gets dissolved. Those trough feeding senators need to see this. Thailand moves forward which is the overwhelming will of the people or complete and utter chaos will ensue. -
There will be a referendum to reform the constitution and the senate.
