Vesak Day Ceremony in Thailand to Attract Thousands of Monks
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Silly comment. You have a right to your beliefs as much as I have a right to mine. Mine just happens to be a total non-belief in the supernatural and a belief in evidence backed reality. -
MFP reassures cannabis businesses amid plans to re-list as narcotic

Exactly right. As I've been saying vested interests want this to remain so. Sorry they want dope to be criminalised again. Mind you Bt500 for a gram is IMO a crime. -

I'm sorry but I think maybe you misunderstand something. Most people don't care about 'medical' dope. Marijuana has been available to buy (not legally until recently of couse) since I've been here and not too long before that you could buy it from the Chinese 'pharmacies' (legally). It's this whole war on drugs charade that costs billions, costs lives, locks up people and let's those who run things to continue to rake in the money that's the problem. Ice is a great drug but it's highly addictive and very destructive once addicted. Cocaine is amazing but again highly addictive. Heroin if pure is fantastic but again very addictive if you let it be so. Opium, extremely laid back drug but again very addictive. Dope is just a nice drug on it's own and and less harmful from the previous drugs I've mentioned and also less harmful than alcohol or tabacco. It should not be put into the same basket. -

Yeh Right! I've bought dope from a monk. You obviously have no idea what goes on out of the view of the head monk AKA the boss with lots of money. -

I have a "beef" as you say with all religions or anything else that believes in the supernatural. If you can't prove it exists it doesn't. I can't remember the big monk's name but he was basically auctioning off tickets to Nirvana. More you pay, better your chances. ps. My mother didn't shape my religion. She gave me a choice when I was very young. "You can belive in this or not." I chose not to. Thanks Mum. I've grown up to be a rational, free thinker. -

And this is a doctor. It really is a shame that ignorance prevails. Thais are thaught to believe what they are told even if what they are told is complete rubbish. They know no difference. Deffinitely the old keep the mushrooms in the dark and feed the ####. I still occasionally see Thais wearing bandanas around their face to 'protect them' from covid. Absolutely 100% no idea. There's misinformation and then there's no information. Thais are fed a diet of both when it comes to dope. -

I agree with what you say except for "politics is as politics does." Personally I would substitute politics with ignorance. -
Good on her but the fact remains that absolutelty ZERO military backed, ultra conservative, royalist parties managed even one seat in BKK. This is such an overwhelming vote of no confidence in the current regime and at the same time an overwhelming vote for change. This change is now in the hands of 250 unelected, military planted senators. How can this be democracy at work? Quite simply it can't. This is 'democracy' Prayut style.

Are we talking medical dope or dope for smoking. Two completely different things. -

All babies are born without religion. This is a fact. You also missed the point completely being that it is asked to refrain from gambling for this period in a country where gambling is illegal 24/7. Question. Does Nirvana exist and if it does how do you know? -

Some very, very rich and influecial people peddling what isn't a religion but believes in the supernatural. This, however, is just beautiful .... Am I wrong but is gambling not illegal apart from the lottery and the well heeled at the horse races in BKK? To refrain from something means it's already occuring. Is "Permanent Secretary for Interior Suttipong Juljarern" saying Thai Buddhists only refrain from gambling during this period? -

MFP reassures cannabis businesses amid plans to re-list as narcotic
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Is it actually a narcotic and why is it/was it classified as such? This is the grown up conversation that's needed. Some very well connected and powerful people would like to see it criminalised again because it's been cutting in to their real narcotic business and profits. Much of the global narcotics originate in China. Very big business with very, very, very big profits. Best to demonise dope so the profits will keep flowing. Let's put it this way would you rather your kids were having a joint or yabba. Both are available. One is destructive the other isn't.- 65 replies

Increase the purchasing tax by 1000% and decrease the import tax on beer, wine, spirits, food etc by 80%. I would be happy with this.- 45 replies

Thailand Official General Election Results Announced
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
As expected. Oddly enough around 2/3 (more?) of the voting population have spoken but this means nothing to a very, very, very few people who actually run the show and want to continue to run the show. Revolution in Thailand is on the doorstep. I believe the people of Thailand will accept nothing other than the change they voted for. -
No need to apologise. The people have spoken on their own account. Never underestimate a people who have no regard for a government. My wife, my daughter, all the extended family, friends of the family and every Thai I have talked to (which is a lot) hate Prayut, hate the military in govt. and I can say no more about another hate. I truly hope the military, the elites and others will listen to the will of the people.

I can tell you haven't thought deeply about this. The USA had absolutely nothing to do with this overwhelming vote against the military in government in Thailand. This was the Thai people and the Thai people alone.

Complete rubbish. The push back will be enormous to maintain the oligopolies stangle hold on the market selling their very, very sub-standard products.- 32 replies

Baht volatility looms amid political risk and new government formation
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Agree, but pretty much what I was saying and have been for quite some time. A coup will not come without civil unrest. Civil unrest must be manufactured. Will it go this way? Will the planted bastions of the three pillars vote against the progression of Thailand into the 21st Century which will lead to said civil unrest? I think civil unrest is not the right term. I think it will be much, much more. I have been talking to Thais about this and this country will explode. The people have had enough. They voted for 'it's time to move forward' and this is what they want. I fear that the streets of BKK will be running in blood. -
You are all wrong. I have to agree with this group 4 people shown in the image that the US influenced a vote of around 25,000,000 people in Thailand that the three pillars along with many other things, e.g. monopolies, needs reform. It's obvious. Damn you Americans. You should stay out of Thailand's 'democratic' process.
