  1. Dual pricing is approved in Thailand. There was a court case where a foreigner went to court because a Thai hospital charged him higher prices than Thai. He lost and had to pay the higher bill. Go to any Thai national park. Foreigners pay 5 times the Thai entrance rate. Thai law fully approves of discriminatory prices based on citizenship.
  2. Phuket restaurant prices, especially in the Patong area, are very high compared to other tourist locations in Thailand. 2 weeks ago, in Patong beach, I paid 120 and 150 baht for a bowl of vegetable and pork soup, which normally costs 50 or 60 in Pattaya. The Phuket soup wasn't any different than the Pattaya soup, in size or quality. The staff serving customers, in all restaurants that I visited, weren't even Thai but did speak Thai. Now, in Thai social media, there are reports of dual restaurant pricing. Basil pork costs 100b if ordered from the Thai language menu, but if ordered from the English language menu, the exact same dish costs 200b. This restaurant is located on a cliff, not in Patong but very near it. If you're going to Phuket, be prepared to be gouged by the taxi mafia and the restaurants. Maybe best for foreigners, to avoid Phuket altogether, lots of nice beaches elsewhere in Thailand. I know National Park entrance fees are 5 times higher for foreigners, many attractions like the aquarium in Pattaya and some hospitals have dual pricing. Dual pricing has been approved by Thai courts as legitimate. It seems everything is heading towards dual pricing in Thailand, even food. Amazing Thailand!
  3. An optional way, and the best way in way in my opinion, to help your GF is for you to loan her the money as a mortgage, and have the mortgage registered in the land office. I recommend using a reliable law firm to register the mortgage in your name. This way, if she gives you the boot, she'll still owe you the remaining balance on the mortgage . If she doesn't pay the mortgage, you can foreclose on the property. As for the mortgage payments, make sure she does pay every month into your account. If you are feeling kind, return the payment in cash, so there is no paper trace. Also, get a usufruct on the house and land, registered by the lawyer. Although the law does not prevent Foreigners from being able to apply to register a usufruct on a land, however, this is still subject to the discretion of the Land Officer. The person who enters into a contractual agreement with the owner for this right is called the "usufructuary". Section 1418 of the commercial code provides that a usufruct may be created for a period of time or for the life of the usufructuary. A usufruct will be registered in a similar manner to a lease of up to 30 years or until the lifetime of the usufructuary. There are stories of foreigners dying prematurely to terminate a lease or a usufruct, but in this case, the mortgage benefit will revert to your heirs. She'll have little incentive to attend to your premature departure.
  4. SoilSpoil what area are you in? Can you estimate how much 1 or 2 rai land sells for near a pristine beach, with road frontage, electricity supply at the property line, any public water or sewage ?
  5. Does anyone of a low expansion polyurethane foam here in Thailand? Some of the foam in Homepro states it expands 36 or 40 times. I am looking for expansion of 1 time or 1.5 times. What chemical can be used to cleanup PU foam?
  6. It's enough for Thais to live in Thailand. In most cases, it's not enough to live in a western standard of living in Thailand. This is where the disparity arises. Thai want all the appliances, conveniences, and living standards of westerners, but they don't earn western level of wages.
  7. Lots of work available in Thailand that pays baht. There are very few excuses why debts can't be paid on time. There are a million or more foreign labourers in Thailand working in construction, factories , restaurants, etc. Hundreds try to sneak into Thailand everyday from Myanmar, Cambodia, and elsewhere, to get a job that pays. I was in Phuket for a few days recently. All the waiters, waitresses, in all the restaurants I visited were from Myanmar.
  8. When loaning money, do it like a professional. If you don't, prepare for 100% loss of the money and the loss of a friend or associate. Loaning money to a friend is a fast way to lose friends. When a Thai banker or credit company loans money, 90% of the time, they want a co-signer. Get a co-signer always! Next, google 4C (character, collateral, capacity, capital) of credit to understand what should be done before loaning money. When collecting a loan on default, you need to determine if it is recoverable or not. Can you find the person and meet personally with them? Is it recoverable?
  9. Only 28c now in central Pattaya, with light rain. In about 20 minutes heavy rain approaching from the southeast.
  10. Now started to rain Pattaya Klang and 3rd Road area, not heavy.
  11. No rain at Pattaya Klang and 3rd Road.
  12. The cops need to examine all details in the videos. That black wrist band maybe a hotel or tour identifier. Also the blue bead band is distinctive. Run those items into RTP AI systems for review of all traffic and surveillance cam tapes. Should be found in 2 or 3 days.
  13. When fixing/replacing a starter, get a rebuilt one with a warranty or guarantee. Don't get the mechanic to fix it because they usually don't have the proper test equipment to determine all the parts that need to be fixed. The starter's bearings maybe worn and doesn't allow the starter to align properly to the engine. The casing may have been bent, have you hit something recently? Take it to a Ford dealer, and ensure you get a warranty stating the problem has been fixed properly.
  14. I have downloaded google maps for off-line use, for use without cell data service. Many features are not available on off-line maps, such as search. An important feature for me is to choose a route, fastest or shortest, and this feature is not on google maps, (both online and off-line) but is available on Garmin. Numerous other features are not available on Google maps, like avoidances, toll roads, etc.. Garmin maps can also be updated by yourself if you know the longitude and latitude of your point of interest, like speed cameras, new gas stations, etc. With Garmin maps, roads can also be added by yourself, but its a complicated process. On 2 trips, both google maps and Toyota navigation selected a gravel road, when there was a paved road. Garmin selected the paved road which was much faster and safer. Google maps are good for cities, but so good elsewhere. A new Toyota map SD card costs 20,000 to 25,000 baht at the dealer, if available. Excellent Garmin GPS are in the 3,000-10,000 baht range. A drivesmart 65 (7" screen) costs about 10,000 baht, and Thailand maps cost about 1,000 baht, on a sd card, from shopee. I haven't determined how to personally modify Toyota maps.
  15. I bought a new 2020 Toyota hilux revo rocco, 4 door 2.4L diesel automatic in March 2021, 5 year warranty. Resale value of Toyota trucks is the best of all makes. Last one, right off the showroom floor. It now has 14,xxx km. It's a very nice vehicle. Cruising on the highway at 80-90 kph it uses 6.5 liters per 100 km according to its gauges. At 110-120 KPH it uses about 8.3L per 100KM. I love the automatic AC, just set the temperature and forget. Also I like the heater, for those cold mornings up North. Love the powered driver's seat, good for long drives. The power train has 3 power settings: eco, power, and regular, which are very useful, in addition to the manual override on gears. It doesn't have cruise control , auto-dimming review mirror, nor lumbar support which I would have liked. The owner's manual is only in Thai, no English available. My biggest complaint is the navigation system. The maps are out of date by about 3 years, and there are no newer maps from Toyota. Many times it shows me driving in the ocean or an open field but I am on a highway. It can't accept 3rd party updates like Garmin Maps which are updated 2 to 4 times a year. Google maps are useless without data service, and many places in Thailand don't have DTAC data service. I bought Garmin Thailand maps and have an old Garmin nuvi 1390 which works better than google maps, and the Toyota navigation system. Second complaint is the automatic headlights. They can't be turned off if the engine is running at night. At night, once the engine is turned off, the headlights stay on, until the driver's door is opened. The headlights turn-on too quickly if the front window has 40% tint. They are somewhat adjustable to turn on depending the darkness outside, but the range is not adequate for tinted windows. I paid 870,000 cash, normal dealer price was 1,079,000. Price included taxes, transfer to my name, everything ready to drive away. I did visit multiple dealers several months prior to purchase. They wouldn't move from the standard list price, which was the same at all 3 dealers. They were willing to add-in all sorts of extras (10-20), without extra charge. These were window tinting (which is essential in Thailand) with 7 year warranty, chrome door handles, door rain vents, etc. etc. There is a catalog of dealer installable accessories. I recommend you go to the show with dealer quotes. Each dealer will give more accessories than prior dealer quotes. Forget the dealer insurance, its over priced.
  16. Looking for genuine Brother toner TN-267BK and the colours. Shopee and Lazada have sellers with a wide variety of prices from 1,490 to 2,890 toner baht for the black toner. How can I be confident the toner and cartridge are genuine new Brother brand without paying the maximum price like at the Brother flagship mall store? Any recommended sellers in the Bangkok Pattaya area?
  17. Try to find the product on Shoppe. Shoppe holds your money in trust until you approve the receipt of the item and agree the item is what you ordered. You do need to take a video of opening the package. You get your money back more quickly than with Lazada.
  18. The teacher should be charged with assault causing bodily harm and fired from the school, and lose his teaching license.
  19. The court should find Joe guilty of man slaughter, at a minimum, jailed for 25 years, no chance of parole for 15 years, to send a strong signal to RTP the actions shown on the video are 100% wrong. The RTP need to be held to higher standards than the general public because they are in a trusted special position. This trial also talks to the lack of oversight by Joe's superior's and blind sight of his massive acquisition of assets. I support the maximum penalty, a death sentence, to really send the shivers into the spines of all RTP. Let them appeal that sentence, while Joe is held in maximum security prison. The trial needs to be fully transparent with news media and all third party categories in attendance. No hiding how justice is served in Thailand. Maybe even recorded as a video and posted on Youtube.
  20. Absolutely I would have braked harder. Been many times in same situation. Only reason not be at fault by hitting from behind is that you slide into him, leaving rubber on the road, as the wheels locked. MC had to brake because car in front of him had been braking. MC wanted to follow at a safe distance. I suspect the reason the Police offered you a 50/50 deal is because MC did not signal lane change.
  21. I recommend to take the 50/50 deal. In my opinion, you are 100% at fault, you hit him from behind, you followed too closely unsafe. You didn't want to share the road. If somebody cuts in front, need to hit him on the side, even a little bit, to make it his fault. This is based on an insurance adjuster/investigator.
  22. Thailand shouldn't be allowed to buy F-35s. Thailand hasn't demonstrated adequate alliance to Western nations, USA, democracy, moral or civil values of Western nations. Their allegiance to China and Russia is overwhelming. Thailand suppresses freedom of speech and has laws like 112 that prevent open discussion. Finally, Thailand supports dictatorship like the junta in Myanmar, by providing them with hard currency to suppress their population.
  23. xe.com quotes 1 USD = 141.219 RUB, 1 RUB = 0.00708119 USD at Mar 7, 2022, 14:14 UTC
  24. The requirements maybe the same as required by Pattaya City Hall for a yellow house book. See attached
