  1. You can see the original article at Forbes. Kathleen Peddicord is the author and she use to write for International Living. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kathleenpeddicord/2023/02/28/heres-how-to-reduce-your-cost-of-basic-expenses-by-50-or-more/?sh=3ba4826858e7
  2. Part of 20+, 2 Russian ladies, Anna and Olga, on March 4, 3rd floor of a hotel at Phra Metta Road in Patong were arrested for prostitution. This was reported in other media. There's also a facebook post by Phuketandamannews that has more details.
  3. Government needs to provide financial incentives for married couples to have children. Monthly baby bonuses, low cost quality child care, etc. Support families to have more children!
  4. Look at it from PEA's viewpoint. PEA has to pay promptly for generator fuel, sometimes in advance. If 10,000 customers are late or not paying, it can accumulate to a substantial sum. Sometimes customers never pay and PEA loses but really its the PEA customers who pay promptly that pay for the loss. Also, customers can go on the pre-authorized plan and have the billed amount automatically deducted from their bank account. Tough to live in this heat without a fan, AC or a cold drink. PEA is not in the money loaning business. Some electric companies ask for a deposit upfront, and after a year or 2, they release the deposit if all previous bills have been paid on time.
  5. Hosting the national flag of any nation comes with responsibilities. It's not a decoration on or for a building, it is the proud symbol of a nation. The flag should be taken down at sunset and raised to top mast at sunrise. It can be at half or lower mast for extraordinary national events like mourning the death of a Minister, etc.. Watch a Police station, military base, or military ship and see the flag timing. It's disrespectful to leave the flag up overnight! It seems like The Jootee Tin Dredging Company needs to show more respect for Thailand's flag by taking care of it seriously, properly and with honour and respect. Maybe the foreigner was showing more respect than the company?
  6. I heard his villa stairs on public land have been removed today by Phuket Peninsula Estate Co., owner of beachfront villa No. 23, and basically erased encroaching structures, including the contentious stairway.
  7. In addition to the preceding, specific important recommendations were made to you on October 25, 2023 in your original post of the accident. For your convenience here are 2 excerpts from that posting thread: "DO NOT sign any police reports or other documents unless you agree completely with their contents. Get official certified translations into English. Avoid relying on a Police or insurance company interpreter." "Make sure the driver gets charged with all offenses (causing bodily harm, property damage, speeding, hit and run, etc.) and these are recorded in the police report." I know you're smart guy but I don't understand why you're sitting back and not managing the matter more proactively? Here is your accident report thread: https://aseannow.com/topic/1310155-hit-and-run-got-me-im-all-broken/page/5/#comment-18448558
  8. Many criminals like to behave as they do in their home country: drive expensive vehicles usually with heavily tinted windows so police can't see inside, lots of tattoos, wear 1kg gold necklaces, girlfriends have diamond necklaces, boss people around because they are entitled to special extraordinary service, live extravagantly, take the best of everything. They like to protect their home base/businesses so check houses/villas with razor wire and CCTV cameras. Just follow the big money, the Thai authorities will find lots of them in Phuket and some in Pattaya area and a few in Bangkok.
  9. I am happy to see "public anger boiling over" and the Thai people standing-up to what they think is right. The Phuket Police are protecting the big money and overlook illegal action of the big money people and acting against common people. Good to see Thai people wanting justice for all. I hope some Police also get fired for the way they handled this matter.
  10. The Police should immediately charge the Indian with driving a motor vehicle on a pedestrian footpath and follow the law. Driving on a footpath is illegal. Why can he escape the law? Also check the Indian's visa, driver's license, insurance and vehicle permit.
  11. Not only check the backgrounds, but also check their motor vehicles, living accommodation, business licenses, visas, language school attendance records, sources of funds, and of course their known Thai associates, telephone calls, etc.. Focus on the Russians, especially the ones that have a Police Officer's phone number in their contacts phone book! Check all people living in villas and big condos.
  12. Thailand will learn the hard way about how Russians operate. Russians will make agreements to get friendship or permission, but after the honeymoon, anything goes, forget about agreements and promises. They'll find a way to void the agreements. Thailand is allowing in too many Russians. One step at a time, Russia will eventually annex Phuket, to protect their citizens, just like they did Ukraine and other countries. Russia has already setup a consulate office in Phuket to assist their citizens. The real issue is Thai enforcement authorities who love brown envelopes and turn blind to code and law violations. Pay the right people anywhere in Thailand and you can do anything you want. Lots of Russian money coming to Thailand. Just like in Cambodia, down in sihanoukville, Chinese casinos and hotels only let in Chinese. If you don't speak or look Chinese, you don't get in. Chinese rule sinhanoukville.
  13. At fire sale prices, no problem! Lots of buyers at 50-89% below purchase price.
  14. The fine for hitting a pedestrian in a zebra crossing is up to 4,000 baht, there is no minimum fine. Someone can get away with hitting for 200 baht. Raise the fine to 20,000 baht minimum and 100,000 baht plus up to 1 year in jail and drivers might start to avoid pedestrians in crosswalks.
  15. You need to follow-up and ensure things happen. Nobody is looking after you by default. You need to ensure justice prevails by hiring a lawyer or doing it yourself. The justice system is very busy and your case may get "lost" or given a very low priority. When involved in a motor vehicle accident, there are multiple levels of claims: property damage, personal injury, pain and suffering, and loss of income and enjoyment. When you say insurance paid all of your costs, exactly what category of costs did they pay? Did you sign anything from the insurance company? Did they compensate you in each and every category stated here? You may have signed something without fully understanding the document that says you have been fully satisfied. Did you get all documents you signed, translated into English, by a certified translator, understand them and consult a lawyer, before signing them? Once the police complete their investigation, the matter is normally forwarded to the public prosecutor, if the police feel it is a criminal matter. Has the investigation been completed? Did you get a copy of the investigation report? Has the public prosecutor's office received the police report? Who is the prosecutor assigned to your case? How and when will the case proceed, what are the next steps? Has the prosecutor decided that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with your case? If you don't know the answer to these questions, you may be implying, to the prosecutor, that the matter is not important to you. If it's not important to the victim, that maybe why things are moving slowly or not moving. If you decide to show some interest and do some follow-up, I recommend that you talk softly, never raise your voice, be very polite, thankful, show appreciation. Document who you talk to, date, time, and contents of discussion. Be very persistent but never condescending or arrogant.
  16. Thailand should take the same action as Sri Lanka regarding Russians. Refuse to renew their visas and give them 14 days to vacate the country. Just google "russians sri lanka"
  17. This is a perfect example of what happens when the Police don't enforce the laws for years. Are the police responsible for ensuring there is no encroachment on public beaches and other public lands? They were sure quick to tell the doctor about trespassing on private property yet it was public property. I imagine there are lots of other areas in Phuket where there is encroachment. The Phuket police should be reprimanded for the lax enforcement of property laws.
  18. Chinese do need a visa to enter Canada legally. Most visitors to Canada also need a electronic travel authorization (ETA).
  19. Canada is a haven for Chinese, and get preferred treatment by Immigration Canada (IC). There are hundreds of thousands of Chinese in Canada, especially in the Vancouver area. No need to speak English or French, the official languages, in Canada, if you are Chinese, just stick/hide in the massive Chinese community. If they did arrive in Canada, the IC at entry may detect fake passport. If the receiving IC officer (IO) is in on the scam or inattentive, they would breeze through immigration and customs, and be free as a bird. Lots of corrupt Chinese or Chinese security agency personnel work for the federal government of Canada. The IC database may have been altered for their arrival, so no need for a corrupt IO at entry. Finally, if they were caught, they could remain in Canada and appeal their return. While awaiting their appeal case to be heard, they would be loose, not in a jail cell, they may even qualify government benefits. They could disappear into Canadian Chinese community and never be found again. Thank goodness EVA airlines was smart enough to detect these criminals. I am surprised Thai immigration let them to the boarding gate and were unable or unwilling to detect the fake passports. There should been red flags at Thai immigration on exit for not showing their arrival using the fake passports. How can one exit on a foreign passport that never arrived and why was that not detected?
  20. Because they follow the international rules and laws and are justified in their actions, unlike the cruel barbarians of Russia.
  21. The reasons are a couple posts back, referenced by Burma Bill
  22. So the President and some ministers received their brown envelopes but not the immigration officers?
  23. Actually, I think they can come for 90 days without a visa. Of course Russians extend the visas or change them to education visas, good for 1 year, so they'll be here for a long time. Countries like UK, USA, and others only get 30 days upon arrival. Thailand is turning into tropical Russia.
  24. Thailand can expect hundreds of thousands of more tourists in March. Hundreds of thousands of Russians are being kicked out of Sri Lanka in March and will be looking for a new place to avoid the war. Many of the Russians started businesses in Sri Lanka and consequently dominated local businesses. Perhaps Thailand will experience lots of these Russian entrepreneurs in places like Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok and elsewhere. Let's see if the Thai people will tolerate being dominated by Russians? Also there will be second wave of Russians, after the Russian election in March, because of a potential military draft. Finally, Chinese can come to Thailand without a visa, effect March 3. See:
  25. You are 100% right. Big problems for the locals caused by the Russians. Maybe Thailand should consider limiting Russians, or at least reducing their stay period and extensions?
