  1. Have flown Business class Thailand - UK several times and as recent as June always excellent service and reliability. As long as you can avoid Manchester Airport life should be good.
  2. We have bought a few items through Shopee but not clothing or footwear and had no problems. I suspect it depends as it does with Lazada on the dealer you end up with.
  3. I would never buy clothes or footwear online because sizes vary and I am a standard size. Go and buy from a store where you can try them on, that’s what we had to do before Shopee, Lazada, etc came into existence.
  4. Very simple we provided Death TPD and Income Protection for our members. Provided by Insurance Companies. I learned a lot about Insurance Companies in nineteen years and had a Statutory responsibility to ensure that the Insurers met their obligations, which they did.
  5. It must be peculiar to this Province as the DLT Head Office in CM accept the Pink ID as prove of address for licence renewal but the local office will not. Yet they automatically renew the licence for six years not five.
  6. I don’t see how increasing fines is going to be a punishment as I understand many are not paid or pursued for payment.
  7. I live in Fang Chiang Mai Province and in June made an overseas trip. On my return I called in at the local Immigration Office which I pass daily and asked if they wanted a TM 30 report. They asked for my passport printed a TM30 receipt plus a 90 day report receipt. Bizzare yes, but I just go with the flow only takes a couple of minutes.
  8. I have lived in the North of Chiang Mai Province for about eleven years and in the last couple of weeks saw flooding never experienced before. It seems the water is now heading South a present from all of us country bumpkins.
  9. Obviously they missed the high rise in London with flammable cladding or was someone else’s fault?
  10. No, better to avoid such places in the first places, but again each to their own.
  11. That is not strictly true as some banks such as the Bangkok Bank will not allow an expat who is not working , to have a credit card unless the amount of the credit limit is maintained in a separate bank account. No deductions are made from that account so it is not a debit card.
  12. I think a lot of expats base the view on lack of action on what is observed regarding motoring offenses. The jails seem to be full so they must be arresting some people. A few years ago my wife got conned re some furniture bought online. I told her to forget about it but she persisted and the police were pretty good tracking down the culprit which surprised me. We also have a very good Thai friend who is a detective and seems pretty active. In Sydney the police are not interested in pursuing minor crimes and stopped attending home break ins more years ago than I can remember now you get a report number over the phone to lodge with your Insurer. I believe in the UK shop lifters are not charged if the amount is under something like 200 pounds, so maybe it’s a world wide problem.
  13. If you read the article a person from the “ rescue “ service not “recovery” service dived in to bring him out. The journalist who wrote the article is probably not as precise as you and if it was originally written in Thai you may find that there is only one word or sentence that describes the procedure. Although it doesn’t help the victim hope it assists your understanding.
  14. I make no comment as to how she died tragic as it is, because I don’t know, but it’s no fallacy that a child couldn’t die locked in a van, through heat exhaustion.
  15. Probably something to do with the draconian defamation laws in Thailand. Even if what you publish is correct it seems you can still be convicted if the other party shows they have suffered “damage”.
  16. I often wonder why some foreigners here want to get involved in the politics of another country outside of Thailand. I know one who seems to have an obsession about US or a particular US politician. This person is not a US citizen, has never lived there or has any connection with the US. Beggars belief !
  17. Thats been my experience over the years sought three refunds using the online system on two occasions payment re credited within 24 hours
  18. Plus I understand those expats married to government employees get “ free treatment” at government hospitals. I have accident/ medical insurance but don’t expect an exemption, it will be applied to all non Thais.
  19. I don’t blame you the ones we use are our own and refill. I have never seen any requirement here about internal inspection. The couple we had in Australia for the barbecue had to be inspected every x years and stamped. They wouldn’t refill them otherwise.
  20. I certainly agree with you about Manchester airport and think you are being too polite Went through return in June Appalling service fellow passenger waited over two hours for wheel chair assistance while staff sat on wheel chairs playing with their phones When my flight arrived the aero bridge wouldn’t engage Passengers were left on the plane for an hour Airline staff told me the airport people refused to move the aircraft to one of the many vacant gates I observed ground staff bring three different sets of stairs before they had one that worked. I will not bore you with the attitude of the security staff Service in Doha and Bangkok excellent
  21. Rather than being lazy some students are fortunate that they don’t have to work to pay for their University education and not only in this country. I worked full time and obtained a Law Degree in Australia studying part time and paying full university fees. My Thai wife also from a ‘poor’ single parent family borrowed the money to study at university and I paid off the loan, My daughter fortunately will not have to do that, lazy, no just lucky,
  22. I would be more concerned if they were making two finger gestures but on second thoughts might be more appropriate.
  23. I never said there are no bad insurers but that does not mean they are all bad. There are bad companies in all areas one would have to be naive to say otherwise I spent 19 years as a Employer Director of a Super Fund so have had a fair exposure. In my experience most insurers pay out out on legit-imitate claims. We don’t hear too much criticism on this site of the bogus claims which world wide runs into billion for which all policy holders pay.
  24. Totally agree given up on calling Canute !!
  25. Yes I did followed it quite closely most of it was the banks Perhaps you should have a look at the massive fraud that occurs from the consumer side Runs into billions world wide. Ultimately resulting in higher premiums.
