  1. My goodness, they must be slowing down, we renewed our daughter’s Thai passport in Chiang Mai a few months ago at lunchtime on Monday arrived on the Wednesday. Just for the record and despite what some of the bigots on this site claim, Thailand was never a Third World Country.
  2. I am not sure if having a valid Thai motor cycle licence would make any difference, considering how easily they are obtained. Take yourself along to a DLT office when they are conducting the testing and see the farce in action, the testing for the car licence is no better.
  3. Myself and my family have had Hospital/ accident insurance for over ten years. Never had a problem with the Insurance company they have paid the hospital directly on every occasion and we can choose which hospital we use. About a month ago our 6 year old daughter contracted Covid and was quite ill and admitted to hospital The Insurer paid without any issues
  4. According to posts on this site you don’t need to take out insurance for a year they accept a policy that covers for one month.
  5. Perhaps after completing the lessons as you suggest, a proper driving test should be taken on the open road. Not the farce that occurs now driving around the DLT compound.
  6. The sentencing is always a difficult issue and often emotions take over as we never get to hear the full circumstances and what might be mitigating factors. I suppose in Thailand as in other countries you have members of the judiciary who take a hard line on certain crimes and others who give a slap on the wrist.
  7. I am aware of that situation and know of a couple of people who use the type two because they don’t have the level of funds to live here. Its a difficult situation as they don’t seem to have anywhere to return to and where they would be worse off. The two I know scrape by with a very meager standard of living but don’t cause any problems. Live and let Live ??
  8. If he urged someone to sexually assault my daughterI would be happy with him receiving a ten year sentence.
  9. How many instances of this happening can you account for, apart from what the bloke in the pub told you?
  10. For some reason there are people on this site who think that using an agent is an anathema, I meet all the legal requirements but use an agent for convenience. I also use someone to clean and detail the car, cut the grass and any work that requires climbing. I also confess to using the private hospital system and fly business class. Its my money therefore my choice on how to spend it.
  11. My response was in relation to the testing requirement I don’t disagree about the cost of insurance for citizens of bordering countries. However if you exempt them everyone else will complain, hopefully it will be dropped. However pre Covid they could cross for a day without a visa however if I want to cross into Laos, Cambodia or Burma I have to buy a visa.
  12. I applied for and received my Thailand Pass yesterday all that was required was details of two Covid vaccinations plus the Insurance cover.
  13. As they are and have been for years all around the world particularly with so called investments.
  14. According to the Thai embassy web site which has a page dealing with all aspects of the Thailand Pass, if transiting and you don’t pass through immigration, you don’t need to register for the pass but still need a policy showing Covid cover of $US10,000.00
  15. We had no rain yesterday although it was threatened, and again today, my chickens, ducks and guinea fowl are all drying out. !!!!!!!
  16. Whilst I agree and question why it is really needed, it is not hard to obtain, mine arrived today by email approximately three or four hours after the application was lodged. Along with the Department that Issues Thai passports that is two efficient Departments I have dealt with, if only they could educate the others, in particular Immigration.
  17. I live further North of Chiang Mai and thought I was was the only one who had noticed the regular rain since the cool season finished. The last few days the rain has been torrential with localized flooding causing a few schools to close.
  18. The only issue we have is with them becoming blocked caused by birds building nests and the fact we have a lot of trees creating further debris. You can have a type of cover applied to stop this but never seem to get round to it, have them cleaned out regularly. The overflowing will occur if the guttering and down pipes are not of the size to suit the roof area.
  19. If you are referring to Chiang Mai Ram Hospital my family and I plus several expats we know, have consulted with Dr Vachiraporn ( first name) for several years. I have never seen her consult a medical text book and found her services excellent. For what it’s worth I understand that she has also completed training in Boston USA.
  20. As they do in most Western countries, I understand that in the UK which I believe has one of the highest number of CCTV cameras in the world, most local government authorities have their own staff monitoring cameras in order to detect crime. I think you will also find that most police forces are reactive rather than proactive these days.
  21. Thanks for the information I gave up working years ago and will be a visitor only, too cold for anything else
  22. She is fine thanks we live in the North and took her to Chiang Mai Ram where she was born and has treatment if ever required. She has a great Pediatrician and soon bounced back, her mother who has had three shots picked it up and was quite sick for a few days but I escaped.
  23. Mancunians speak very clear English it’s their cousins on the other side of the Pennines who are the problem !!
