You describe exactly what traffic engineering does and then claim it doesn't then you try to say its only a black spot a certain times of the year...basically as ever you have no idea what you are talking about The whole point is that countries with low road death death rates do engineer that way and it is a sad fact that some dimwits from those countries don't realise it and mistake themselves to be "great" drivers In fact they have spent their entire driving lives cossetted by traffic engineers and the like and have no idea. As I can't see the bend I can't help. But Consider camber, land markings eliptical curve? Kerb conditions,surface of road. armco barriers and most importantly obstacles on the side of the road. This is apparently an accident black spot...or do you think that there are spirits on this piece of road that makes people lose control?

Not actually true. The raid traffic engineers have designed a bend that clearly leads to extra crashes. Thailand doesn't seem to have such a thing as a traffic engineer.

There needs to be a review of hillside developments on Samui.

There was a scandal about hillside developments on Samui a few years ago. I thought that any land over 19% incline automatically belonged to the Crown which is why ot was never developed and the only things ever built on it were temples etc.? Developing on steep hills, building roads and deluding of vegetation has got to be a bad thing, leaving it susceptible to this sort of thing in bouts of extreme weather

I have been to Umphang many times and have a good idea where it starts finishes there. As you may be aware the trip to Umphang from Bkk is fairly long. However via Sangkhlaburi, it could be seriously shorter . So my plan is to investigate the route from the Sangkhlaburi end. If it proves accessible I would do a return trip on the route that way. PS I'm already near Sangkhlaburi.
