  1. Complete and utter nonsense...... you'll be saying they're making Christmas illegal next.
  2. Thailand does not give "discounts" to national parks they levie a massive surcharge on non Thai people.
  3. No it isn't...its those who run the parks have no real idea.
  4. I have been visiting and camping in National parks for over20 years. I used to talk my way in at local prices until about 7 years ago when they stiffened up the implementation. Not going to these places is cutting off you nose to spite your face. The policy is a mistake, and most of the rangers I've spoken to would agree. (Except for one loony at Kaeng Krachan!) Thr policy is just part of how Thailands national parks are run.... very ineffectively. They are part of Thailands national heritage and as so, part of the product sold to tourists. They are clearly making a cod's ear of this. The only thing more daft is the group of ill-informed and frankly ignorant expats and foreigners who completely misjudge the situation because of their blinkered prejudices.
  5. You're making ridiculous false dichotomies
  6. No, it depends on your ability to read and understand the article. The article makes no mention of foreign tax payers at all....that's some thing you've added. I'm assuming you then think dual pricing is fine if you're a foreign tourist but not if you work here or live here long term? Howsignificant would the effects be of thatcinsidering tourists add up to over 35 million and long term foreign residents at in the hundreds thousands?
  7. There is simply no evidence to support this. For a start entrance fees are not the only way these attractions are funded.
  8. That's not the article at all...the article is about dual pricing policies of the DNP...you are just trying to impose a different policy that you have thought of.
  9. I note all the racists screaming discrimination are doing it from their white-cebtric POV, when is fact the NP fees are aimed at ALL foreigners regardless of race colour ot creed. It seems they also think that because all Asians look the same to them, they must look the same to Thai people..... thats just a joke. They are erroneously applying a white perspective
  10. All you post means is you don't understand racism. You ate the one who is racist...its a common cliche for racists to call other groups of racism.
  11. Pink card is not meant to be accepted.
  12. No, but they probably have a special price for you!
  13. THere has been some research on this - around 2007 a paper on Khao Yai's dual pricing found that Thai people would not be put off by raising - even doubling - the basic entry fees. and that scrapping the higher rate for foreigners would increase the number of foreign visitors, and that the higher fees did not in most parks make a significant difference to income - excpt in marine parks which have huge number of foreign visitors compared to Thai people. However the problem runs deeper - the DNP does not mange visitors well in most parks - there needs to be a balance between numbers , access and maintaining the natural environment - we have seen how disastrous this can be the marine parks - in the inland parks the situation is not really public. THe DNP needs to look at places like Australia to see how the parks are managed with respect to visitors how trails are set up not to be invasive etc. In the end it requires finance and policy reform but the dual pricing system has been shown over decades to have no significant impact other than malking foreigners unwelcome and reducing the numbers of visitors. PS - it's worth noting that many national heritage attractions around the world are free or subsidised and there real income from visitors is gained not from entrance fees but from secondary purchases - e.g., camping, souvenirs, voluntary contributions, food accommodation
  14. A "ghost rider" is a person who exits a vehicle while it is still in gear and the engine is idling, causing the car to slowly move forward.
  15. - what evidence do you have for that?
  16. I think motorbikes are great ways of getting around. Unfortunately you need to have a couple of skill sets - one is to be a competent rider and the second is to understand how to drive in Thailand. People who scream and shout about how bad "driving" is in Thailand fail to recognise that it is they themselves that are not the good drivers. THe very concept of "good" or "bad" driving indicates they don't actually understand the meaning of road safety. Being confused would be a good indicator you shouldn't be driving
  17. Around 80% of road deaths are riders and passengers of motorcycles - on top of that one needs to include serious, life-changing and minor injuries. If the authorities can reduce those figures it has the possibility of making a sizeable impact on what is a major public health issue in Thailand and one of the main causes of death. However, in Tourist areas like Phuket, Samui etc it is tourists who are at most risk. A combination of lack of skill, poor clothing and driving without full licences means they are a danger to themselves and others. Sadly many don't realise the risks or that they are driving illegally. I only noticed when pointed out that the "poster" does have a reference to having the correct "permit" - as ever this is a poor piece of graphics and copywriting as it doesn't even use clear vocabulary - one must have a FULL licence accompanied by an IDP - many people don't even understand how to read the IDP and fail to grasp that the endorsement of "A1" is not valid in Thailand. I fear many police don't know that either - but you can be sure the insurance companies will.
  18. On TV every night are programs of road accidents - normally from dashcam. THis is a new phenomena from countries where dashcams are common...of course there are some from Thailand but also the US, Russia, China and Europe, the number of videos are NOT representative of "typical" driving in any of these countries. What does seem typical is the people on these threads seem totally incapable of watching any video critically - it is an acquired skill, but judging form this thread it is a skill that none of the posters have acquired, and the implications they make and conclusions they draw are simply risible.
  19. no mention of the IDP or having a FULL licence then?
  20. This video is all about perception and prejudice….. What this video does NOT show – it doesn’t show that Westerners are better at driving than Thailand people – and certainly not in Thailand. It does NOT relate to road deaths in Thailand. It’s worth bearing in mind that 80% of road deaths are motorcycle users. If you look at deaths on 4-wheeled vehicles in Thailand they actually are slightly LOWER than in the USA. The video does show how prejudiced Westerners are about Thai drivers and how little they understand about road safety and driving in the kingdom. They have no idea how cosseted they are at home and mistake that for being “good drivers”. When you look at other yardsticks you find that Thailand is nowhere near as bad as foreigner drivers like to believe,– e.g. Deaths per 10 billion vehicle-KM Deaths per 100,000 registered vehicles Registered vehicles per 1000 inhabitants Thailand is nowhere near the top in these figures. But the EL media and westerners are obsessed only with the one stat - DP 100k pop.– and that is not even the one normally use in road safety science. Which is fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles travelled (VMT). BTW – the US has a very poor road safety record compared to Europe, (about 4 times that of the UK per 100k pop, Thailand is 10 to 12 y=times that of the UK but oddly enough from a collision rate that is nowhere near proportionally greater.)
