British Man Arrested in Thailand for Posing as Tour Guide

Yet another self-entitled Brit who thinks he's above immigration laws. THe islands are getting swamped with them. -
That's not Thailand though.- I don't think you can make any assumptions - these new regulations need to be laid out in writing. THe situation in Thailand has always been B visa and/or work permit. Nomads and volunteers all needed a visa and permit. Over 20 years ago I use to come to Thailand on buying trips and used a B visa. (90 days) After that I lived and worked here for 20 years on a B visa and work permit.

previously immigration did.t want any working - including voluntary. So what work is permitted? I used to get a B visa to visit THailand on business - e.g buying or meetings - tourist visa didn't cover that. This needs clairification as work has neer been permitted before. Digital nomads still neeed to get a special (expensive) visa. So it will be interesting to see wht they are talking about.

Big Thailand visa changes from June 1

this could be the end of Thailand as a desirable tourist destination. I fail to see how the current tourist hotspots can cope with any more visitors. Infrastructure, environment, everything is already stretched to the limit. Thailand's natural resources - the source of the industry - will be decimated. -
Probably one of the daftest posts anywhere on ASEAN!

New speed cameras on Lamphun-Lampang route spark debate
kwilco replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Looks to me as if they most likely aren't regular speed cameras, the devices appear to be some kind of traffic monitoring system as seen on many major roads around Thailand. Advanced Traffic Monitoring System: uses multiple cameras to track traffic flow, identify vehicles (including stolen ones), and even monitor for accidents. If near an intersection they may monitor red light jumpers. Thy may capture license plates of vehicles that pass through check licence and traffic density. Oddly enough I got a speeding ticket (and photo) near there about 11 years ago - 500 baht. -

Thailand Set to Recriminalise Cannabis Amid Expert Outcry
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In 2023, the Australian Parliament introduced a bill to legalize cannabis for adult recreational use, but the bill has not yet been passed. Cannabis laws in Australia vary by territory. In most states and territories, cannabis is illegal for recreational use. However, in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), it is decriminalized for personal use. This means that possession of small amounts of cannabis is no longer a criminal offense, but it can still result in a fine. It's illegal in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, and Northern Territory (except for small amounts for medicinal use). Decriminalized for personal use (up to 50 grams of dried cannabis or 150 grams of fresh cannabis): Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – You can grow up to 2 plants per person at home. These laws are likely to change in the near future. There also are many hydroponic shops selling equipment that is allegedly for tomatoes but it also grows very good cannabis. -
Thailand Set to Recriminalise Cannabis Amid Expert Outcry
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't think you’ve read them - you just see some headlines in the media and think that's the same think. - I seriously doubt your ability to read a medical paper or make head or tail out of the conclusions and then apply that to legalisation. The truth is there is very little research into recreational cannabis (and medical) because it was illegal worldwide and research was not permitted except in special circumstances.. A lot of the "papers" are not peer reviewed and have vested interests - law enforcement agenicies, and alcohol etc... What the public need to do is take a step back from the hysteria and take a broad outlook on a drug that has been in use for millennia. Then look at the social effects and balance that against the effects of making drugs illegal. There is a simplistic school that believes that anything you "don't like" should be banned - those people then look round and cherry pick often spurious "evidence" to back up their point of view - which in reality is a prejudice and not an opinion. -

THanks for all the replies i don't want to use the phone a nub can take several users and leaves my phone free for normal use. It's for use in a house tht doesn't have fibre - but 5G can actually be faster than a lot of the standard broadband/ So I want ot be able to go not a real shop, sit dw and talk about the deice and packages with the salesperson. I think the links provided above should do it. I upgraded my phone SIM to %5G keeping my old number and the download speeds went off the scale.

Yes- I know that, but I'd prefer to buy in a shop or AIS outlet if they do it . So really need someone who has first hand experience.
