  1. He's clearly a Gammon - the word has been arpound since the 1600s and it's followed him! - Spread the word! It's in wikipedia....
  2. THe government is now back-pedalling again they won't introduce this until 2025. THe principal is the same - if you are a British citizen fall in love and marry a foreigner the government tells you that they have no right to live in the UK unless you are in a minority high-income bracket.
  3. What did you mean - that's wht you siad. the in/out differetial this year is 750,000 whic=h is higher than ever. THe cause is losss of workers due to Brexit.
  4. It\s dome the complete opposite - just from other regions.
  5. It's for spouses and immediate family of UK citizens
  6. Immigration has hugely increased since Brexit.
  7. He's not "a British man" - he's a Gammon!
  8. No it's spouses and dependants - could cold have been married for years - but if not in UK the new income rules apply from the spring.
  9. basically shows how little you understand
  10. The measures apply now...it is the income level that is changing. It is a relatively small part of legal immigration that is being addressed..the numbers are small. It does not address any illegal immigration issues. Apart from making some spouses illegal in the future. It does however affect some UK citizens who live in Thailand and may already have a Thai spouse and although married for many years, if they haven't applied yet to give their spouse residency will from the spring, find they have to jump a much higher hurdle.
  11. They are lowering the limit for now but will gradually increase it to 38k. This measure only addresses a small amount of LEGAL migration it does nothing to address people crossing the channel or illegal immigration. It means that most British spouses will need to have a degree level job to afford to bring a foreign spouse to UK. If you have already applied then the old minimum wage level applies. If you have been living abroad and married for years, your spouse will need to apply under the new level. This will be 29k but rising to 39 later. Most UK retirees are below these levels anyway
  12. As it seems your vocabulary only stretches to suggest I've swallowed dictionary (this is defensive for "I had to loo it up"?) - my guess is you don't recognise a false dichotomy when you use one? PS - as you don't seem to understand the word facile either here's the appropriate definition - "ignoring the true complexities of an issue; superficial" - as you see, te comment is self-explanatory to most.
  13. "The undisclosed tiger zoo and farm is not being named by WFFT" whether they did or not, it's common knowledge that it is Mukda Zoo and Farm. Mukdahan province
  14. probably the most facile comment on the thread? have you given ANY thought to this topic?
  15. Science dictates nothing it proves... the key is scepticality or critical thinking. the problem being with wildlife in Thailand, the authorities don't subscribe - they believe in tradition. THe most common argument for instance with elephants is a fallacious appeal to antiquity - "as we've had elephants for thousands of years, we must be right?" This is the kind of thinking that is destroying Thai ecology.
  16. It's a farm - so it is a business for producing tigers - many females are kep alive for speed breeding - so long as they can produce a chain of litters they are proitable - the males are required for sperm. If ever you see pigs suckling cubs and tigresses suckling pigs, this is part of the speed breeding process. Many tiger farms have "wineries" behind or near them - these are for the processing of tiger carcasses into TCM. Animals dont have to be looking good for farming only the nes in public view are kept groomed etc.
  17. I think you are being over-simplistic here - they are trying to improve their position in a very complicated situation. I think you are covering your ignorance with cynicism - read the article for a start.
  18. BJ - led a single issue government of the hard right which has proved incompetent at every turn. Single issue governments are notoriously inept and running countries.
  19. Apparently the people who ran the tiger temple are now running similar attractions in Pattaya and other places
  20. Anyone who genuinely falls in love with a foreigner will be unable to bring them home unless they are above the national averae wage - that means that about 73% of the UK population don't qualify - notably retirees and pensioners.
  21. It's a government department authorising the removal - all tigers are technically owned by the government. In this case the authorities have "appointed" WFFT to handle the situation because previous exercises like this were such a mess.
