  1. "The undisclosed tiger zoo and farm is not being named by WFFT" whether they did or not, it's common knowledge that it is Mukda Zoo and Farm. Mukdahan province
  2. probably the most facile comment on the thread? have you given ANY thought to this topic?
  3. Science dictates nothing it proves... the key is scepticality or critical thinking. the problem being with wildlife in Thailand, the authorities don't subscribe - they believe in tradition. THe most common argument for instance with elephants is a fallacious appeal to antiquity - "as we've had elephants for thousands of years, we must be right?" This is the kind of thinking that is destroying Thai ecology.
  4. It's a farm - so it is a business for producing tigers - many females are kep alive for speed breeding - so long as they can produce a chain of litters they are proitable - the males are required for sperm. If ever you see pigs suckling cubs and tigresses suckling pigs, this is part of the speed breeding process. Many tiger farms have "wineries" behind or near them - these are for the processing of tiger carcasses into TCM. Animals dont have to be looking good for farming only the nes in public view are kept groomed etc.
  5. I think you are being over-simplistic here - they are trying to improve their position in a very complicated situation. I think you are covering your ignorance with cynicism - read the article for a start.
  6. BJ - led a single issue government of the hard right which has proved incompetent at every turn. Single issue governments are notoriously inept and running countries.
  7. Apparently the people who ran the tiger temple are now running similar attractions in Pattaya and other places
  8. Anyone who genuinely falls in love with a foreigner will be unable to bring them home unless they are above the national averae wage - that means that about 73% of the UK population don't qualify - notably retirees and pensioners.
  9. It's a government department authorising the removal - all tigers are technically owned by the government. In this case the authorities have "appointed" WFFT to handle the situation because previous exercises like this were such a mess.
  10. I first vitied Thailand in 1994 and i ived and worked here for 20 years and I can assure you some changes are massive - it's hindered by the fact that the country is run by an ultra-conservative and relatively uneducated elite.
  11. Your karma dictates what you are reincarnated as, and the suffering endured in that like decides on the next - so mistreatment of animals is just karma. It is the view that medicimnes etc are not really a good idea as they mask your true state.
  12. Don't think you know how government hospitals are run
  13. Basically any application now is likely to be refused or delayed.
  14. THey should be indochinese (corbetti) but most likely are hybrids or Bengali
  15. 2016 - 147 big cats were removed from tiger temple. Three years later, 86 were dead, the 61 survivors are still in government care
  16. THere is one situation that comes to mind - an elderly Brit on enough pension to qualify to live in Thailand might need to return to UK for health reasons (cost of treatment in Thailand being very high) he would than have to stay and die in UK alone.
  17. Depending on income, yes.
  18. so if it was a Thai wife, she's not a refugee so would be refused admission. and sent back to Thailand
  19. That was a fiasco. The tiger Temple had to be shut down but they made sure that the "rescue" was a disaster. Edwin Wiek the conservationist noted at the time that cramped conditions enabled the spread of disease among the big cats. He falso pointed out that the government’s tried to do it on a very limited budget. This prevented officials from treating those affected by "canine distemper" of all things. - A virus easily managed with proper food and supplements, clean water, and space to roam. They just weren't prepared to take in so many tigers at once and the authorities should have asked for outside help, but instead they insisted on doing it all by themselves. It is also thought that inbreeding may have caused those tigers to have weakened immune responses.
  20. chamge is happening - slowly as younger [people take over - also Thailand hs been called to account of more than one occasion by CITES - no doubt this will get some more publicity soon.
  21. Th basic philosophy of many people of influence in Thailand is that animals are not sentient but mere commodities and they simply can't understand what all the fuss is about.
  22. It has become less and less valuable n being a British citizen in Thailand since Brexit - there is now virtually no reason for a Thai person to marry a Brit.
  23. No apparently there are people already living in the UK where the spouses or children may have to be separated. Cleverly brought this law in under the cover of other anti-immigration laws. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/10/james-cleverly-anti-immigration-policy-foreign-wife-tories-stewart-lee
