How about 200 kph then.

    Well the difference can be summed up as;

at 200kph your death, and let's be clear on this driving at 160 or anything near about here in the land of sating will result in a horrible ending for all concerned eventually, but at 200kph it happens just that bit quicker than at 160 kph.

    hope that helps.

This topic is not about you. Superciliousness only works when one actually is superior.

Acceding to the demands of a person who is a member of a political party that has been described as Nazi-like as being the Will of the People has been demonstrated historically as a poor choice.

I have found Simple1 to be extremely cogent, perceptive and knowledgeable on the issue of immigration. I and many other TVF members appreciate his contributions.

Your allusion to yourself as Road Runner is entirely misplaced.

    Who rattled your cage?

i frankly don't care what your heavily biased views are in much the same way as you care for my views so let us try to demonstrate some civility and not try to be supercilious or arrogant

  3. Bugger me! I was out and about at that time yesterday in sleepy hollow sorry Khorat. And to think I missed all that fun.

Life is is not fair. Kudos to Plod with the gun, bravery but a bit misguided imo. Loved the motorbike high speed chase indicating left and overtaking on the right. Classic keystone cop scene but overall well done chaps you got the perp dead to rights. I hope he got an extra judicial belting in the cage ( hence the masked face of the perp in the picture)

A reward based system for long term stayers. If you're good, pay taxes and keep you nose clean for a certain period of time, you can have a 5 year visa, etc. Build it up like credit so one day you can have residency. We reward your valuable contributions to Thai society.

As for tourists, I don't really see a problem. Tourists might be working here? It's not exactly hard to spot them. I really don't think it's an issue. They might be working from home? They could be. Might also have people on the elite visas and marriage extensions doing the same. They're not allowed to work either.

You can only really screen someone's criminal history and make a judgement then. If you can't screen that, it's hard to know. Could give people the benefit of the doubt.

What a cracking idea. The longer you stay crime free the longer you will be allowed to stay I.e. You are a model potential citizen.

    A ray ray of sunshine!

  5. Back when I was an apprentice officer at sea my captain ordered me to get a haircut whilst we were in Kaohsiung. ( this was the late 70's so my hair was at least shoulder length) I reluctantly complied but for my money I got a haircut (quality immaterial) a couple if beers and a BJ. I ended up taking three haircuts that call.

The captain was delighted when when we sailed and my hair was akin to GI Joes ..................

sadly not much much hair left now and I believe the barber and his assistants have since retired.

'They also have absolutely no idea how to use a roundabout. I have nearly been wiped out repeatedly when traffic entering a roundabout is totally unaware that they are supposed to give way to traffic already on it, coming from their right.' In common with most things Thai-driving-related. But the giving way to traffic on the right, as in on the roundabout, rule, is not necessarily the rule. France, I believe, does the opposite, wherein those on the roundabout have to give way to those entering it.

I had to laugh at this post ( no offence meant) but using French driving as a standard.......

next it will be the Italians then we are all buggered........

Never done a local Pattaya-Bangkok-Pattaya EMS before so all new to me. As I said in subsequent posts, your (local) experience may vary.

Possibly for the UK and it's the reason why I will have a monthly Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed delivery just to see how it holds up. Right now it looks good.

Despite being at the Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airport, mail consigned there does go off airport to be reconsigned for international distribution at Laksi which is just south of Don Meuang (DMK), the same place where mail coming into Thailand gets cleared. I posted stuff at Suvarnabhumi a few years ago and recall it took longer than usual to get to the destination but I agree that 8 days to SIN is a bit long.

I drove from Khorat specifically to post this urgent document. Now I am facing some potentially serious problems via a vis visa extention as a result

    oh happy days!

Do you have details from Thailand Post tracking when it left Bangkok and how soon it entered the Singapore system? That could give some idea on who was dragging their feet.

I use www.17track.net to check on international packages as it saves searching on 2 separate websites (once it has been logged into the receiving country's system). Sometimes it times out but ping/refresh it a few times and the entire shipping timeline is displayed.

Yes it resided in Bkk airport fro the complete delay. Arrived and delivered same day in Sin.

I had a small parcel sent to me from Bangkok to Pattaya In December. I received it slightly more than 24 hours from when it was sent. While that's the quickest I've received something, I've always found the EMS service within Thailand to be great.

EMS service to the US is good but delays occur after the item reaches the US, especially if the addressee is not in a major urban area.

There's always someone lamenting something about Thailand on TV.  Moaning is a pastime for some.

    Ok in the spirit of not moaning how about the flag;

posted EMS at BKK airport 08 Jan

    delivered Singapore 16 Jan

No my friend, what's "pathetic" is your oversensitive reaction to what was clearly a very gentle leg-pull.

The idea that the couple had a row because she reneged on a promise to join in a threesome is quite frankly preposterous, and only worthy of ridicule. Of all the things that a couple could argue about, you come up with that one? I don't know you, but how your mind works is a window into your world.

Then oh wise one, may I suggest you purchase some window cleaning material as what you claim to be seeing through the window into my world must be an illusion.

    perhaps even a reflection.

before you remount your high horse re read my original post and engage your brain

Being in a similar situation myself since I was widowed, I have a lot of sympathy for the writer of the original post. Like her,  I'm slim, presentable, intelligent and on a retirement visa and,  like her, I find the attitudes of farang men in CM to be so difficult to accept that I just avoid them like the plague.

Let's face it, girls, older farang men don't come here for the weather, the food or the laid-back lifestyle, they arrive looking for their lost youth as regards their long-since faded attraction for the opposite sex. The sight of an intelligent farang woman is like a red rag to a bull, revealing misogynism second only to that of the USA's appalling president elect!

OK, I'm being verbally provocative - but I've found the same problems since my husband died. I live outside town on the edge of a small farang community comprising guys married to Thai girls mostly less than half their ages, few of whom speak much English. The local mom and pop shop bar is the meeting place, with the men sitting at one end drinking, talking and listening to 60s/70s pop and the girls at the other end playing with their smartphones and chatting between themselves. I'm expected to sit in silence with the girls - if I don't and attempt to join in the conversation, I'm told I'm stupid more often than not. On the other hand, the girls are friendly and fun, but it's impossible to have a real conversation as my attempts to learn Thai are not so successful. Result - I can go a week or more without having any English language communication with another human being, especially since the massive increase of traffic here often means a 1.5 hour drive to town rather than the former 35-40 minutes!

Some of the  replies to the OP could easily have come from the above-mentioned group of sad old guys who simply can't accept intelligent women as worth even talking to. One point, however - the OP states she's had the chance to chat about current affairs but has rejected the opportunity. I should be so lucky! Go with the flow, girl, and enjoy impromptu conversations when they occur whilst keeping you right to end them when you need to.

With the exception of your second para, I feel for you. It must be a sad existence especially after having lost the one you loved so much.

whilst there is certainly an element of truth in your second para it was perhaps unnecessary as, like most males today,  we are becoming increasingly fed up with anything that refers to the female as spoken by the male being tagged by the "expression of the month" that stupid and mostly wrongly used word and it's derivatives, misogyny.

i hope life improves for you as living in virtual seclusion can have serious effects on your health both mental and physical.

chin up old girl ( I am older than you so don't get offended please).
