6 Dead, 2 Missing As Typhoon Yagi Hits Thailand's North
Fortean1 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
In Cochise County in Southeast Arizona the San Pedro 'River' flows north out of Mexico. It is only ankle to knee deep in most spots; however, during the monsoon season it carries more water. -
The Vanishing Hurricanes: A Quiet Season Baffles Forecasters
Fortean1 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Weather guessers claim more accurate predictions than their results indicate. I've read about a weather maker who could produce rain. His name was Irving C. Krick. Here is his obituary from 1996: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/obituary-irving-krick-1327473.html He had a very interesting career: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1996-06-26-mn-18712-story.html I found this book in a used book store: https://www.amazon.com/Storm-Irving-Krick-weather-bureaucracy/dp/0399206361 -
Harrowing Allegations Emerge Against Andrew and Tristan Tate

First I've heard of the Tate brothers. Trial by jury before passing judgement. -
Thailand-China high-speed rail project faces delays
Fortean1 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I believe the Chinese are looking for concessions along the train routes. Land near the railroad tracks would have Chinese owned hotels, restaurants, and more. We do not know all the details of these contracts. -
My wife had an ECG at the Pran Buri Hospital, a government hospital. These were wired pads. She will have cataract removal in one eye on the 9th at the Hua Hin Hospital, also a government hospital. She is 78. Also, a chest X-ray and a blood test the same day. The Hua Hin Hospital will charge 6,000 Thai baht for the procedure. Oh, my cardio doctors have said I have a torturous, I mean, a tortured aorta. They do not seem too bothered by this except for the warning to come back if shortness of breath and/or chest pains.

Perhaps Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok as I doubt the branch hospitals will carry it. Got my first Yellow Fever in 1970, prior to entry to Vietnam. Then a booster in 1981, before going to Panama. My wife and five children also were inoculated.

It seems the Thais have a belief that dogs could be reincarnated aunts and uncles. That seems an awkward and backward way of thinking. My nephew let a dog they brought from the countryside to Lat Phrao in Bangkok to roam freely at night. The dog bit a boy and my nephew had to pay the medical bill. Soon after the dog was poisoned. I told him that in America he would be charged. He couldn't get it through his head. He now has a Doctorate and still thinks that way. Our family taxi guy showed me on his phone 15 or 16 dogs he cares for. He thinks he is doing the right thing. These are let out of the yard often. My nephew was aghast when I pointed to a puppy in the home village that I said should be put down. It was partly or fully blind, could not walk much at all, had mange, and was not living a good life. It is a cultural thing.

The bawdy look at the British and French rulers was not found in my British literature classes in high school in America. I read on my Kindle, "1,000 Years of Annoying the French". Please see: https://www.amazon.com/Years-Annoying-French-Stephen-Clarke/dp/0552775746 . Also, finishing up reading "UFOs and Government: A Historical Inquiry". Please see: https://www.amazon.com/UFOs-Government-Historical-Michael-Swords/dp/1933665580 This is coffee-table size. It extensive sources end each chapter, fully indexed, and with photos of major players. I have extensive margin notes that follow my experiences in reviewing somewhat hidden data in the Project Blue Book archive. The normal month and year format in alphanumeric order is punctuated by extensive dumps of pages that are just dumped. The current one is 8,198 pages. My point of view is that I am neither a hostile skeptic nor a true believer. What I find at Project Blue Book I share with Robert Powell (radar reports), Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos (photos and videos), and Michael Hudson at BUFORA, all the EMI reports.

Yes, ideas are hard to kill. It will take integrating the radical Islamist world into 'normal' cultures. That will take decades and perhaps hundreds of years. That reminds me of the discussion I had with the owner of Craig's Modern Market in Evansville, Indiana in the 1960s. He was a former fundamentalist preacher. He said that after WW 1 we should have killed off the German population, their animals, and raze their structures. He must have been an Old Testament believer.

First Image of CIA Black Site Detainee Reveals Dark Legacy
Fortean1 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
In 2007, visited the main gate of the former Camp Samae San and my nephew driving asked if we could enter. I overheard him say the base was Top Secret. It was a Royal Thai Marine base after we left in 1976. The location is ideal as U-Tapao International Airport is about one mile east of the base. Ferry prisoners in and out using military aircraft -
During a time of increasing tension with Russia we would share nuclear depth charges with the Dutch Navy. Nukes are not stored in the Netherlands. Poland is out of the question as too close to Russia and Belarus. Crimea was stolen in 2014, and the West did next to nothing. This fantasy that Russia fears NATO is plain weird. NATO is a defensive system. I worked the NATO communications center in Naples, Italy 1977 to 1980. Your recall of history is incomplete and smacks of wanting Putin to be successful in Ukraine. This allegation that Putin only wanted to take part of Ukraine is plain wrong. Did you forget the Russian tank column north of Kyiv? Perhaps they were looking for mushrooms?

I think three or four CGI infused remakes appeared. In January 1973, assigned to a communications center at Camp Samae San, Thailand. The B-52 base at U-Tapao RTNAB was a mile or so to our east just beyond MARS hill. I lived in a bungalow a few kilometers from the air base. If I climbed the hill topped with tapioca fields I could easily see the air base. I took photos of B-52s and once a U-2. Helo from the air base came over to check me out. I hid the 35mm camera in the brush. Yes, atomic cannon were deployed to Germany roughly between 1954 and 1963. Here is a history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M65_atomic_cannon My friend and mentor Charlie Hedgpeth (RIP) worked communications support for one of these nuclear cannons. HF and Morse Code with SPECAT coding. Charlie was at the Choisin Reservoir in the Korean War providing radio and teletype support to the U.S. Marines and Allies. He said during the retreat they chanced across a Chinese Army medical unit. Someone began firing and the small unit, maybe 15, was wiped out.

Rod Taylor in The Time Machine is a favorite of mine. Please see: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054387/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_6_tt_7_nm_1_in_0_q_time%20machine I believe his last movie was Inglorious Basterds, role as Winston Churchill. Elois munching on fruit and veggies, and Morlocks munching on Elois. The remakes appeal to new generations I suppose. You know the U.S. and its Allies used tactical nukes at the end of war games as the Soviet tank armies came through the Ruhr and Po valleys.
