  1. 04 08 2022 We are going to Koh Phangan for a holiday (!) and will fly from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International to Koh Samui. Internal, domestic flight. It would be nice to take some weed and my favourite little pipe along. I am old enough to remember just how serious it could be to get caught with this stuff not very long ago. I am sure there will be Weed outlets there. Would I be better off just not taking any or is it that there is absolutely no problem at all? Thanks for any comments.
  2. 25 07 2022. Are there trade schools in Thailand? I am currently putting my niece through nursing collage (university?) and that is going very well. (What good value to change a life. About 100,000 THB/year - 3 years). Are there similar schools to train to be a mason or steelworker or electrician or any other trade? Are there apprenticeship programs? A fellow who does building work for me brings his son, who is very nice, to train on the job. But, he has to stop to show him how and when one task ends the son just sort of switches off. I was a carpenter, served an apprenticeship and know how valuable the technical training at a collage is. Thanks for any comments.
  3. Goodmorning (just). Thank you. You mention getting other dings sorted out at the same time as wire repair. My experience with insurance companies has been that every damage is an incident so mice eating the wires would not be the same claim as a bump on the door. In other countries that would be 2 claims. Although all the mouse damage to wires, upholstery and rubber seals would be 1 claim even though there are 3 different things damaged. Do you think that could be the same in Thailand? I will go to the garage etc. but just wonder what you think. Thanks
  4. BRAVO!!!! It is clear that masks help contain the exhaled water vapor and snot that the microscopic virus rides on. Masks also protect those inhaling air too. Without an undesirable extra dose of virus-laden snot. Anybody take note of the rise in numbers of covid infections in those countries where the mask mandate ended some time ago? The newest version of covid is much much more transmissible and only a fool would go into a crowded indoor space without a mask. (any nationality, gender, race, age, colour etc. etc.)
  5. 19 07 2022 I saw a post where a person's car had the wiring extensively eaten by mice. I have this problem too and they also ate a corner of a leather seat. My (Toyota CH-R Hybrid) car is not immobilized but some rubber seals and the wires to one or two lights have been chewed. What if they got into the main battery that powers the motor? Is this a normal insurance claim? I am fully insured (5*) with Allianz and have made no claims. Would this affect my premiums? Is there a service to kill all the mice? I put poison and they eat it but it seems that they are still in there somewhere. Thanks very much for any comments.
  6. Thanks. I was born in Canada. I am a naturalized UK citizen. I was able to live in France as a UK citizen, and member of the EU. Now I have a resident's certificate for France, having to do with my residency for 25+ years. I used my recently renewed Canadian passport to obtain a 'freedom to marry' certificate as they accepted my French divorce documents without translation. So the Thai authorities married us on my Canadian passport. I am mindful of the UK government's actions and have some concerns that one day they may turn their sights on me. I am white so maybe I am safe. But with racists such as Priti Patel in charge who knows what might happen? I have no problem with my current visa but I would like to tidy things up a bit. My wife is married to a man (me) with no visa which is not a problem for now. But, who knows what could happen? Thank you. Take care.
  7. The teeny tiny virus hitchhikes a ride on water vapour and snot coughed up by that person sat next to you. It does not exist as an entity floating 'naked' in the air. It is you who does not understand Mr Chuckles. I have found that a tumbler of bleach works very well and I drink one every night b4 bed. Plays hell on my golden tan, however.
  8. Especially attractive now the mask mandate is gone. Great! Invite people from all over the world and breathe in their breaths. I am keeping my mask handy and will wear it in any public place. Here in Isaan we still wear them in shops.
  9. Are those macaques stuffed in that wire cage dead? If yes, what happened to them? If not, why are they crammed in there like that?
  10. Hello again. I am about to apply for a new retirement visa 'married to Thai national' version. I have applied for a non 'o' visa b4 but it was years ago. I am looking for a link to an online guide for applicants, or something, please. It used to be that they prefer applications to be made outside of Thailand but made exceptions from time to time. The local immigration office is very helpful but not very 'local' so I would like to prepare for my first trip to ask if what I have is what they need. The last time I went to the trouble to get a statement that I was not a wanted criminal, for example, and the officer was not interested at all. I have a normal retirement visa and I am trying to figure out how long I can keep it valid during the application process for a new visa in a new, different, passport issued by a different country. Thanks for any comments.
  11. I saw right at the end of writing my post that it might be for a different AP than BKK Suvarnabhumi but am happy to pass on information to the forum about a good hotel with low-cost parking anyway. I lost my car once at Suvarnabhumi as the two parking towers have identical numbering systems for parking spots. A friend suggested doing a google drop point where you put the car to more easily finding it on your return.
  12. I have resigned myself to swap my visa into my CND passport. Goodness knows I have jumped through some hoops to satisfy 4 countries that I exist and have a right to be in any one of them. Aside from the pleasant parts of marriage I thought it would be a good idea to be a registered spouse intending to stay and be a good guest of the country. There was some talk about the kind of person would be welcome to stay here (modest income vs wealthy etc.). That was b4 covid and it seems to have gone away. If someone like Patel (UK) were in charge here it would be a worry. Thanks again for any comments.
  13. With the quarantine, I discovered a painless way to fly. Now I book 1 night at https://www.sinsuvarnairportsuite.com/ when I go and 1 night when I come back. I live in Buriram so it is an easy drive to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi AP and get a free transport to and from the hotel. Underground parking is free for 3 days and 80 baht a day after that. So, 2 nights in the hotel make 6 days free. The hotel is 10 minutes from the AP so even by taxi it is about 100 baht. Very nice people. Added bonus is that it is very easy to find your car when you get back. [email protected] 10 May 2022, 17:20 to me Dear Guest, Nice to hear from you again. You can book direct with the hotel, please. The price for room charge as below: 1.Deluxe room only +transfer : 900 THB. 2.Deluxe room with breakfast +transfer : 1,200 THB. (for two) **Free car parking 3 days ( another day : 80 THB./day) ***Please reconfirm again. Sincerely yours, Ms. Charuwan Deelert. Reservation Sinsuvarn Airport Suite Hotel. 14. Not required in Buriram. At least not the office that I have been going to for 4 years.
  15. Thank you. When I got my current non 'o' visa class in Surat Thani I had to then wait for 60 (?) days and then apply for my retirement visa in Koh Samui. (Years ago, I forget the details.) So, if I go out of the country on my UK passport and come back in on my Canadian passport where does that leave me? Will my UK passport visa still valid as it has about 6 months to go before renewal? I forget if they stamp passports on exit and with no TM6 on entry how would that affect my UK passport visa? What duration of stay would I get on entry with my CDN passport? Now I live in Buriram Province btw, and immigration here are very helpful. Thank you for any comments.
  16. I have dual nationality. CDN by birth + UK. My current Thai Retirement visa is in my UK passport and has been for several years. Long story but I had to be married using my Canadian passport. All above board and legal. I now have a pink Thai ID card, house book and our marriage documents (and a wife too). I have all the necessary (including money in a long-term deposit account) for a normal Ret. Visa but want to change it to my CDN passport and register as a person married to a Thai National. Any comments on whether I will have to leave the country to get a new TM6 as I have been forced to do in the past? I have one for my UK passport. I see that they are temporarily suspending it (TM6). Would it be a good idea to change my visa now? My existing visa in my UK passport is not due for renewal until 26 01 2023 but could just change over now if leaving the country would not be req'd.. I know I would have to pay the visa fee early but that is OK, especially considering the cost and inconvenience of making an exit and re-entry trip by air. Any comments will be gratefully received. Thank you
  17. HELP! Sooty mold and scales. I have quite a few (20+) of these yellow flowering trees/bushes (name?) and they are infected with scales. I tried just wood vinegar then reluctantly added a Bayer chemical (see pic) and have also started heavily cutting back some of the most affected ones. There are too many to wash each plant. They only seem to be on this particular species of plant and even those adjacent are not affected (yet). On YT 'imidacloprid' is recommended to apply by the roots. I have ordered some that is 5% WG, what does that mean? There is nothing that I have seen about % to mix with water and am not even sure if this is the right stuff. Is it safe? I am anti-heavy chemicals, Glyphosates etc.. Also ordered neem oil but don't really know how to use it. As you may suspect, I am not much of a gardener and would be most grateful for some guidance, please. Thank you very much in advance. Take care
  18. Masks. A person commented that masks are like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain link fence. Well, if that bug was riding on a tennis ball it would get stopped. The tiny virus rides on water vapor and sneezes and these are what the masks stop. Both out and in, I suppose. Refusing to wear one is asking for trouble and giving the gift of illness and possible death to others
  19. I bought my CH-R Hybrid when they first came out and paid 1.2M Baht for it. When it was 2 years old and had 10 or 15,000 on the clock I asked the dealer what they would give me as a trade in for a new 1M Baht car. They offered me 600,000 Baht. So much for dealer's service maintaining the value of the car.
  20. Hi there Mr. Friendly. Thank you. You are right there it is, the list, tucked away hiding in the manual. MY A/C filter was never checked, let alone replaced, during the multiple service visits that I took the car in for. I used to get a form with the bill that had all the service points on it with a check box to show what had been done. That was Canada, UK and France some time ago so maybe things have changed. Thanks again.
  21. 03 03 22 My CH-R Hybrid is a few years old but only has 31,000 km on the clock. I have been taking it in to the dealer where I bought it every 6 months, or so, for the 5,000 km (?) service even when it only had, say, 18,000 km on it. The dealer is 90 km away but there is Toyota showroom etc. closer to my home. I assume that I can go there for the service w/o a problem. But can I just go to my local generic garage where I get my truck repaired to have an oil change for my car? Will that affect anything to do with Toyota (long term main battery guarantee for example)? Second question; Where can I find the check list of what the dealer should do every 5,000 km (or whatever) please? I looked online but the Hybrid is not listed. They never give me a list of what they did when I have it serviced only the service point at, say, 50,000 km plus noting the actual km on the odometer (10, 650 km, say) . And the invoice too, of course. The last time I went there I had noticed a funny smell b4 I went and remained after the service. I looked myself an found a well established mouse nest in the A/C filter. Isn't checking the A/C filter something they should do as a routine during a service session? Other new cars of many makes that I have owned came with a service book that had pages to be stamped when the service was carried out plus a description of exactly what they did. It seems not Toyota here in Thailand (we have 2). Comments gratefully received, Thank you.
  22. Did do, the spare key bit. Thanks for the thought.
  23. Stupid question but do you turn the dial to off? My 125 click stops when I put the side stand down w/o turning off the key and the battery drains.
  24. Jesus Wept! It is a very active pandemic with nearly 6M deaths worldwide (1M in the US alone) and well over 12,000 deaths every single day. Commercial interests are pressuring governments to call this an 'endemic' problem, like catching the flu every year or getting hayfever in the spring. This is not true. Hospitals (where there are any) are overflowing and people are dying from other preventable diseases because of this. AND nobody wants to wear a mask <deleted>. It doesn't 'feel nice'. Big Pharma and others are making billions and billions off of this, they would like to see it go on forever.
