  1. Did do, the spare key bit. Thanks for the thought.
  2. Stupid question but do you turn the dial to off? My 125 click stops when I put the side stand down w/o turning off the key and the battery drains.
  3. Jesus Wept! It is a very active pandemic with nearly 6M deaths worldwide (1M in the US alone) and well over 12,000 deaths every single day. Commercial interests are pressuring governments to call this an 'endemic' problem, like catching the flu every year or getting hayfever in the spring. This is not true. Hospitals (where there are any) are overflowing and people are dying from other preventable diseases because of this. AND nobody wants to wear a mask <deleted>. It doesn't 'feel nice'. Big Pharma and others are making billions and billions off of this, they would like to see it go on forever.
  4. I saw that (ABS etc.) about the 160i and they said at the dealer it is only in Indonesia for now. I think the 150i is pretty nice and it 'only' costs 1,700 euros. I am not a rich guy but that seems like good value for money. I don't know what the 160i will weigh but the 150i is the same as the 125i and that is a consideration for me. Anyway, replacing my perfectly good 125 Click with the new 150 Click satisfied my retail therapy urge. It was much, much cheaper than replacing my equally good pickup truck with a new one.
  5. Well, thanks for all the input and random exchanges. I found a blue click 150i in Buriram for 63,000 baht on the road. And, they are delivering to me for 200 baht, 90km from their shop! On the key fob, they explained it to me and the front direction can be locked, as with the old model. Don't know about leaving it unlocked etc. but they demonstrated how it can be left sort of unlocked but immobilized. Just arrived and you can see my matching shopping bag courtesy of my 'crochet mad' wife. Take care everybody and keep safe.
  6. I have a UK bank account with Nat West. I am a UK citizen etc.. They know I am here. A small pension is paid into my account and I use that account from time to time. I have an online service with them. I think they sent a Debit card to me here and also a card reader. I registered my Thai address with them and also my Thai telephone too. When I need a confirmation they do it by my Thai phone but occasionally I have to use the card reader and card process. I am retired and they know that too so I don't know if that makes any difference. I never ask for loans and am very careful about my passwords as some things require a person to show up at the bank in person and sign. Hope this helps
  7. I Have been looking at, want to buy, a new honda click 150. I found 2 in Buriram area. I asked for a price at 3 sales shops (one did not have one) and got 3 prices 72,000, 63,700 and 63,000. (The high price was from a non dealer shop) I have looked on the zigwheels and other sites for official price and they either don't have a price or don't even have this model listed. If I find one in a location far from where I live will I be able to have it serviced locally for warrantee purposes? If yes, does it have to be purchased from a Honda dealer? If so how could I look online for the best price and go and collect it? What is the story on these other sellers who have new bikes for sale of different makes? I see them all over and don't understand what they are. I bought a Yamaha from one of these for sister and it was 10,000 baht cheaper than the dealer up the road. New and all the papers etc.. They said it had to be serviced by them. Proper, clean shop. They are in a village along the road so not so convenient (but so is the dealer). I will pay cash and have a pink card so there will be not problems regards registration or loan qualification. Thanks for any comments.
  8. What a lot of variety in these comments! The white TR4 above is the same as the one I had in Canada but mine was BRG. Thanks for the Lucas notes, pretty funny. Also thanks to jaiyenyen, the only comment from an MG owner. Also to EVENKEEL for suggesting a new Tata. I had no idea they are so inexpensive. I worked in remote areas of Nepal some time ago and the only access to those areas b4 the hiking was by rough cut 'roads' through the foothills. All the 'jeeps' were Tata long wheelbase copies of Landrovers. I forget how many people exactly crammed into the back and on top but it was in the high teens. But, transam, a friend just bought a new Honda and the dealer told him the battery needed to be replaced, after 6 months (not on guarantee) and a rust spot is bleeding from under the rear window rubber seal. He was told to take it up with his insurance company. That deflated my confidence in Honda although I otherwise agree with you. The history of British engineering and innovation far outshines many examples of manufacturing. They had a captive market, having invaded and colonized 1/2 (or more) of the world and they got lazy about how they went about producing in a competitive marketplace (or something). Thanks for all the comments. I suppose we all have a bit of extra time on our hands due to covid, sadly. Take care,
  9. Thanks for all your comments. I too have experienced the joys of British cars in Canada and the UK. MGB hard top, MGB soft top and long (long) ago my TR4A IRS. I could never understand why, when coming from the land of endless rain, my TR4 would not start in a downpour. Lots of fun, however. When Nissan started up in the UK some time ago it was a newsworthy subject that, for the first time in the UK, a manufacturer was going to encourage suggestions from its sub contractor suppliers. They were even going to give them details of the entire vehicle that they were providing parts for. The answer to why there were so many design peculiarities in all of my British cars came to me in a flash. Why it took superhuman effort to operate one thing without scraping your knuckles on another. The suppliers were providing an emergency brake handle without the slightest idea of where it was going in the car. So, the seats and gear shift locations did not figure in their manufacture. For example. Wow, are they that cheap? My current Tata is just great. Why did I not think of that? Thank you very much!
  10. Thank you. Do you know if there is there a Thai website showing MG models and prices please? I am 90km from the nearest dealer or I would just go and look but do not go to that area often because of covid fears. Thanks
  11. 21 01 22 My trusty Tata pickup is getting on and I am thinking of replacing it. I would buy used from an expat going home as I have seen some reasonable offers in the past. I have not been attracted by the Thai used car dealers offers as they seem to want 60% of the new price for a 10 yr old anything. (could be mistaken) I thought about an MG truck as I have heard they are good value and offering 0% interest to buy on the never never. Any comments please?
  12. As I was applying for my COE (got one and didn't use it), I was searching everywhere for clear information about what was required and how to follow the rules. It was very easy to be funneled into this Siam Legal site (called thaiembassy etc.) and was eventually linked to a few very costly hotels in Bangkok offering the quarantine service. Along with links to offers of help with my application and to insurance providers (one) too. It is fine to say that if I looked at the fine print or noticed that it was not go.th or some such thing but desperately searching for information takes us to many sites in the process. What about 'check with your airline for up to date information'? It is they who ultimately will or will not let you on the flight. I flew with Lufthansa but got information more clearly provided on the Air France site. Indeed, if I had not provided the information required by the airline I would not have got on. A number of people were asked to step aside both going from and coming back to Thailand (with my Thailand Pass). How are we to know that various sites masquerading as Thai government information sites are up to date? How do the airlines find out what is the real and current schedule of requirements? I came back on the 6th of December and had a PCR test at the hotel (not at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and it was an OK process. There was no mention of an ATK test to be done later personally and anyway, what to do with the results? Is there a 'Thai Embassy' in Thailand? No. That is an oxymoron as an 'embassy' is the official body representing a country in a foreign land. One thing is for sure. I am not traveling out of the country again for a very long time. btw. This 'no tourist visa on arrival' decision is causing no end of trouble for people who want to come here for a holiday. The visa is issued by the Thai embassy in the country of your residence and is processed rapidly, or not, depending on efficiency of the staff. In France it is 'not'. Thanks very much for all the very useful information that was provided by contributors to this site. Very helpful. I got a COE and my Thailand Pass with your help. Take care and keep safe
  13. 19 12 2021 I get mail from, what turns out to be, Siam Legal about current requirements for entry to Thailand, among other things. In the past this mail has contained what I suppose is a selected list of approved hotels and also links to legal services providing help to obtain visas etc.. They (Siam Legal) are clearly representing themselves as the Thai embassy which, I think, does not exist in Thailand. Unless they are claiming to represent the Thai Embassy located in some other country, where they do exist. The latest mail includes the following: Is this true? Test & Go Program: Travelers will still be required to take the RT-PCR test upon arrival and the self ATK test on the 6th or 7th day on arrival. What do you think, is this some elaborate self advertising scam or what?
  14. oblomob is correct. Note: your hotel and test must be booked and paid for before you get on the flight. My test cost 4000 baht includes 3 meals and secure transport from airport. My hotel room was 780 baht on top. Are there not any 'ready to fly' type sites that you can look at? The airline company usually posts something and if you do not comply with their rules you will not be allowed on the flight even though you may have bought and paid for a ticket. Be careful about travel dates and your TP. I saw people turned away from boarding because their pass did not start until the following day. I have not been asked to have further tests and I am here now.
  15. 10 12 2021 Thanks for the comments. I am back now, being processed at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi went pretty smoothly and there was a big team of hotel rep helpers getting people onto the right transfer minibuses outside exit C. You beat me on the parking KannikaP but otherwise I am happy with the hotel Sinsuvarn Airport Suite (SHA Plus+). Got tested at 11:00 and results at 19:00. Only obliged to spend a short while enjoying morning Bangkok traffic b4 clearing the worst of it and heading home to Isaan. PCR test was free in France with a Carte Vital (govt health card). It will be a very long time b4 I fly any place again. Take care.
  16. Yes, it is the 6th. It is my Lufthansa flight schedule that missed out the 'next day' comment. So, Friday afternoon and collect printed results when the lab opens Saturday morning. Got it. Thank you very much. I am flying out of Lyon, which is a giant modern international airport, so there should be no problems there. Thanks again. I am dreaming of my morning exercise dip back home in Isaan. I am a Canadian (born) and used to walk to school in -10c no problems and at home (b4) in Chamonix France -10c was a 'mild' day, zero was 'balmy'. When I got here it was -3c and I thought I would die of hypothermia getting out of the car. Wish me luck getting home again
  17. Excuse me for being stupid but help me out please. I am in France now, on the 2nd Dec.. My flight to BKK is on the 5th at 10h50. (Sunday). I arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi on the 5th at 07h15 following a 15 or 18 hr flight. I have to have a RT-PCR test taken with the results 72 hours (3 days) before entry at BKK (or getting onto the flight?). So, can I get a test and on Friday the 3rd with results dated Sat the 4th? And are result sent to me on my phone acceptable or must I have a printed document? (I have a 4 or 5 hr drive from here, where the lab is, to where my hotel is where the morning flight takes off from) I have a TP and a Thai retirement visa with a re-entry stamp and, of course, all the vaccines (done in Thailand) documented. My Thai hotel c/w tests has been reserved and will be going there on arrival. I live in Thailand so I am just going home after a quick administrative trip here to France. But, if the powers that be think I would doing what I have done (for the TP) and what I have to do to get back in as a tourist, they must have a screw loose. Thanks very much for any comments.
  18. I have booked and paid. I live in Ban Mai Chaiyapot, Buriram about 6hrs+ away. A good night's sleep will be welcome also good Thai food after a week of steak frites.
  19. Here I am in snowy Annecy, France. I got my TP by showing booking details of my hotel along with insurance and other required information. The TP arrived pretty quickly, maybe I am a lucky example. (**check you spam folder) The Sinsuvarn Airport Suite (SHA Plus+) hotel had not got into full swing (although approved) when I booked and they have since given me the form showing I have paid for the test when I get back next week. Ms. Charuwan Deelert was most helpful and the hotel looks good although I have yet to sleep there. I went there on my way to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi; It is a 10 min taxi ride to the AP (<150 baht c/w tip). I mentioned that the rapid test may be accepted by the time I get there on the 6th next month and if it is they will refund part of the payment that is the testing bit. I parked my car there, 3 days free the rest 80 per day. My flight arrives at 0700 and they said just call the hotel and they will send an approved vehicle to collect me, not according to some fixed timetable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. (I booked through Agoda) They have been most helpful and they are pretty easy to find and are out side of the Suvarnabhumi tangle of multiple roads etc.. With my car there at the hotel I can just jump in it directly and go home after the 24hr waiting period (or whatever it is then). The checking of my vaccine history was very thorough getting onto my flight here to France. If all the countries sending tourist to Thailand are as careful checking departures as they are at Suvarnabhumi then there will continue few infected visitors arriving by air. I applied for the COE (and got it) and also the TP (and got it) and did not feel there was much simplification with the new process.
  20. I have booked a room at Sinsuvarn airport suite hotel for one night. It is about 800 B including breakfast and maybe other meals too. They do the test at the hotel and it costs 4000THB. Attached is what they sent me. Is this the normal charge? They are very clear about what they are providing for this price. The room price is OK and they will let me park my car at the hotel for a week for a few hundred baht which is pretty handy. It all seems ok but I thought I would check. I have my Thailand pass already btw, but the lady at the hotel said they will want proof of payment for the test at immigration on entry. I will have had a recent PCR test in France as is currently required. Any chance of a cheap rapid test being allowed in the next week or so? Thanks very much for any comments. 21. So, what happened? Did you arrive in Thailand and got stuck in the AP?
  22. No question, just a comment. I have friends who transfer money every month and pay a lot. It is an easy way to keep money here in Thailand and to be able to get it out again.
  23. I have a Euro account with the main office of Bangkok bank. I can use this as proof of funds for my visa extension as it is in a Thai bank and they just get their calculators out when I apply for my 1 year's extension. My local branch gives me a letter that shows my local bank THB balance and my Euro balance. I have a passbook for each. I can easily transfer money for major purchases etc. without an international charge. I did pay a one time charge when I opened the account. I can also easily withdraw or transfer the money out of Thailand as euros.
