Thank you. Well that is not so great at first glance as the flights to Taiwan are 200+ and onto Vancouver from there 1500 - 5000 euros. Most of the flights are 20 hours+. Thanks anyway. It really illustrates just how big a change for the worse there has been for air travel post pandemic. I had been thinking of flying west from bkk but now will check on eastbound flights too. Thanks again.

13 04 2023 A little help please about current post pandemic air travel options. I live here in Isaan and will be going to see my son in western Canada. I see the cost for a return ticket from BKK to Vancouver is around 1500 euros for a very long flight. Ay ideas on how to improve on that please? Already looked on sky scanner, booking etc.. A long time ago around the world tickets were a good option choosing either north or southern hemispheres. I looked but the one I saw limits flights to N&S america, asia or europe so that does not work. Also, any ideas about which reputable and reasonably priced airlines have the least horrible seating, food etc. in economy class please? I was an experienced traveler (air and other) during years gone by but the pandemic has been the final straw destroying travel for pleasure. A short trip to France and back shortly after in was allowed here, was an experience not wanted to be repeated. Thanks in advance for any comments. ????

Tata seem to have wound down their presence in Thailand (?) along with other brands such as Chevrolet. Is there a way to locate auto wreckers that have a stock of used Tata parts please? I know Thais are not too fond of this brand but it is great truck, 1 tonne load capacity and made for difficult driving conditions. So, any ideas about used parts please? Thanks very much.

25 02 2023 Stupid, yes. But can anybody help? I went to Pattaya, from Isaan, and bought an older truck from a Canadian here on holidays. He has a condo there. Neither he nor I had complete (any) knowledge of the sales and registration of used vehicles. I paid the money and came away with a hand written bill of sale and other bits of info and the blue book. I am sure that the truck is legal and that the transfer problem is simply providing the correct information. The authorities refused to transfer for various reasons. The house book and other documents have the name of the company he used to buy it. Not his personal name. I asked for better passport copies etc. and he just sent pictures taken on his phone. Many times. Now I have passed the list of documents required by the authorities, including a certificate of residence. I asked these various documents be properly copied, signed, and sent to me by post. Now he just sent me the name of his lawyer and said I must deal with her at my cost. I cannot provide a certificate for him. He must do it. He possesses all the other documents. I cannot copy and sign them..... Etc. What can I do? The truck is still in his name. I said that any tickets for speeding etc. would go to him and also he could be responsible for any mishaps that might occur with the truck. Is this true? Is there anything I can do? I am not going to Pattaya to get a paper from him. The truck only cost 145,000 B so getting into some costly battle would be pointless. The guy is an as*hole who has little grasp of reality outside his own. He may do nothing more unless something threatens his peaceful holidays here. Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.

Currency speculators are a baine to society. They add nothing -zero- to the well being of the world and often undermine the stability of targeted countries. How much money was made (by currency traders) during the specular multi billion GBP crash caused by UK's Liz Truss? Every slight 'jiggle' in the charts are profit points for these persons. They should be banned; yet they are respected members of society thanks to their wealth and friends in high places (bought and paid for).

Mirrors absent on motorbikes, is this a 'thing'?
notrub replied to notrub's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The Dutch Reach is a safety technique for motorists that’s been in use in the Netherlands since at least the 1970s. This is the method where the driver (when stopped) uses their nearside hand to reach over their body to open their door. This twists the shoulders around and gives a clear(er) view of cyclists etc. approaching from behind to pass. A bit off topic but, there you are. -
Mirrors absent on motorbikes, is this a 'thing'?
notrub replied to notrub's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
So, the answer is no, we cannot encourage people to use their mirrors as a safer driving device. Whether they are riding a bike or driving a huge pickup. Or that person stuck in the right lane blissfully unaware that their cruise control is set to the exact same speed as their neighbor to their left. These problems are not exclusive to Thailand and we expats could all look to our home countries b4 commenting too harshly. -
04 02 2023. Up here in Buriram there are an alarming number of motor bikes, ridden by young men it seems, that have no rear view mirrors mounted. These young riders are the same ones who pull into traffic without a glance or abruptly swerve off the shoulder onto the hwy proper to pass slower bikes travelling on the verge. Mid afternoon when school is out is the most dangerous time around here. Also, with all the new road construction that includes direction separators there are now many bikes travelling in the wrong direction on the shoulder. That means a left right, right left, left right etc. etc. when turning right into a main road. Also worse after school hours. I get it about riding contra flow on the shoulder (thank you road building profiteers) but how about the mirrors? These characters, often with modified (absent) exhaust swerve along the road without a thought to other users. Yes, accidents are frequent but the lesson learned doesn't go far when the learnee is dead. I don't complain If they managed to put themselves away on their own, but if they lurch into my car I could wind up broke and in prison for a very long time as a victim of careless/carefree riding. How to encourage enforcing existing laws regards mirrors on bikes, even if they are not used?

From personal experience gas generators for permanent use are a non starter. For welding the ones that work are very big and heavy. For well pumping they are very, very, very thirsty. I know, I tried it. They are no fun to load up and take home for the night either. For the well, go solar. The pump, panels and controller cost us about 25K THB. For general small tools use I bought a Polo inverter generator and it works a treat even with tools that have a big start up draw like metal cutoff saws. Can even perform 2 or 3 spot welds b4 the breaker flips. Less than 20kg. About 13,500 THB from Lazada. Polo is a consumer friendly company, btw. For welding we rent from a farmer who has a small rig on a small trailer. POLO เครื่องปั่นไฟอินเวอร์เตอร์ ขนาด 2.0KW รุ่น P2250iS POLO Inverter Generator

Well, thank you everybody. I have most all of the docs. in Mr. Red's 1st and 2nd folders and the officer knows me from 2 or 3 years of 90 day etc. so should be good. Didn't think about providing copies of everything so thanks for the reminder. The cat asked me to wish you a Happy New Year. Thanks again.

Thanks DrJack, I am in Buriram. Also forgot, I have a usufruct on the land (that I bought and put i wife's name) and a TM6 and a TM30 stapled in my passport along with my last 90 day. Due on the 01 01 2023 but he said come in any day this week, no problem, so I go tomorrow. Hopefully miss the Monday crowds at the immigration office and bank too. Yellow book shows my address btw. Thanks again.

It is not too good to be true. Many medical procedures here are less expensive when not performed by US style insurance based pricing structure. Best to be careful, however, I would have thought. My dental implants cost about $1,000(+) c/w crown etc. here in Thailand vs $3-5,000+++ in the US. I had similar luck with cataract surgery but forget what I paid (20-30,000THB per eye vs 100,000+ at Rutnin, BKK).

Just about to renew my retirement visa for the 5th-6th (?) time and checking about documents requ'd for this. (Googled it and get a bunch of visa agents). Here is a list of what I think I need. (The local immigration officers know me and are friendly here, btw) Passport Request to renew statement (official document form) Yellow book Pink card Bank books with current balance dated on the day Bank letter, same date, verifying balance over 800,000 THB (the figures noted must match bank book EXACTLY) photos Wife's ID? Wife's house book? My wife will not be going with me and don't think it necessary, is this correct? We have lived in the same house that I built for the past 5 years and I almost always see the same officer. Thanks very much in advance. Happy New Year.

Re-entry permit form for non-O visa
notrub replied to Mick 1's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The caps are as on the stamp. It also notes that the fee was paid. It cost 1000 baht and I was given a receipt too. -

In other countries where a left (or right) turn on red is with the proviso that all other traffic at that junction are not also wanting to drive or turn into the space where you intend to go. I think when curbside turning on a red is allowed (in any country) it is last on the list of right of way.

Thanks puchooay. Yes, that is where we are, about 20km west of Putthaisong. A good idea and will try it out if I don't find a charity depot where I can just drop off some boxes/bags of stuff. In our village, Ban Nong Waeng, there is only a primary school but there seems to be a plethora of schools in the area generally (and hospitals too-thank you number 9) so there will be plenty of places to try if that is the solution.

Thank you KhunLa. I'll give them a call.

We have too many clothes (and other things too) and would like to give them to some sort of charity. Is there a Goodwill, Oxfam or other sort of charity in Thailand? Sometimes it seems that a local Wat organizes this sort of thing but it seems not to be the case in our small village about 90km north of Buriram city. I don't mind delivering them to a depot not in our area. Any ideas please? Thanks very much.

Sorry about this-small thing. Immigrants and immigration are about entering a different country or area. Leaving are migrants who are migrating away from same. Kind of like 'throw' and 'catch': similar but different. It is very confusing to think of China as 'exporting immigrants'. Are they doing as in the UK? Arresting 'immigrants' (refugees) and 'exporting' (deporting) them to Uganda?
