can you understand today's actors mumbling on tv?
Pouatchee replied to Pouatchee's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
with brit tv it gets difficult when they also have irish and scots on the cast. usually if it is in received pronunciation it aint so bad. of course, in any of the 'englishes' if they talk about names or places then it can be really hard to tell. i did. their will be a few american first nation actors, so that might mess things up my hearing certainly aint what it used to be, but i can turn up the volume, so no... not just that. try listening to something like power book lll: raising kanan and see if you can really follow what they are saying yeah i watch that crap... aint much on now apparently due to writers strike. -
i truly enjoy watching tv. but over the years i have found that the actors/actresses are more and more difficult to understand. they slur more, mumble with low voices and many actors arent even native english speakers. now i am watching true detective season 3 (as example) and i gotta have the subs on all the time. season 2 was just as bad with woody harelson and Matthew McConaughey drawling in texas accents. same goes for british tv... even more so cos much of what is being said on brit tv is colloquial and particular to england. any others struggling with this new generation of actors?

How to negotiate repairs in no-fault crash

damn man. that thing is anything but a fantastic example. its more banged up than a featherweight against a heavyweight would be. not even sure they make replacement panels for that old model anymore. if memory serves me well, panels actually arent that expensive. usually it is the labor that brings costs up and here labor aint too bad. if you can find the parts it will be worth it -

sorry i did not read in detail all the above posts. OP, 2 years ago I changed from retirement to marriage with absolutely no hassles. I had done my 2 previous retirements in Pattaya via an agent and finally i changed to marriage in rayong no agent. for some reason... there are ABSOLUTELY NO AGENTS HERE. i really dont get it... 15 years in rayong and never found any agent. anywho, i had the money in the bank so i dont know if that made a difference. maybe up there in the thread someone mentioned this prior

Uni Philippines Open Univeristy degree in Thailand.
Pouatchee replied to SiamTee's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
if this bruce guy is the one i think... out of khosamet, he runs bogus schemes and the degrees he helps people get are worth less than tissue. i knew this guy who got a degree outta bkk at one of mr bruce'sa recommended schools. the guy never had to go to class and he didnt even have a high school degree. maybe that is what you want? -

if you are messin' that's on you. if your tellin' the truth i hope you get yours. some people dont deserve the chance that life is. as for me, well i am too far to do anything now, and who knows, maybe i never will. this guy and his wife are 15 years older than me and might croak before i can take them through due process. -
see, thing is, taught in everything here from uni to primary to gvt schools to international and lest not forget the classic english program. they usually dont get violence from us and still fail to put in any effort. be it noted, i have had some very bright and amazing kids over the years... and there are always a few in every class.

NO... ENN-O this fat guy with glasses is just repeating the rhetoric they used to teach us at uni in all the ed programs... but no one has ever come up with a method to implement these DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS. every time they try to change the program they end up messing the kids. only thing needed is good classroom management, a supportive admin not afraid to take action if the kids need to repeat a year, and teachers who know their lasagna. unfortunately, none of that here in thailand

gonna be a shat show for me. i get my tax return sent every year here in thailand from the quebec gvt in french. no taxes are theoretically deducted cos they are technically "tax deducted at the source". imagine trying to explain this to immi or revenue. i really think sretta and his team did not factor in the logistics when they decided this. the $ sign is just too alluring. some of us had fallouts with immi officers b4. most of them dont speak english, nor can they read it -
another non committal one liner. dude? do you ever say anything. if you were thinking the same thing you should have said it. adjectives for you that com to mind are copy cat imitator. follower. echo. wannabe. wannabee. rubber stamp. aper. copyist.

too much infrastructure to handle for one person alone. this is why i said "if i had money". having money doesnt mean i have 20 000$ to spend. i hope i am wrong, but afraid i am not. just a question of time before we are required to do translations, maybe even yearly translations, of our home tax returns. -

i had to have all my education degrees and transcripts translated, had to go to go to chulalongkorn uni... this was in 2003. cost a bloody fortune i dont think the gvt will accept any google translate. my original question stands... has anyone brought this up so far? i cant imagine igor ruskie submitting his papers in russian.
