  1. Interesting point. Obviously they're using the guy's nationality, but it does leave it quite vague as to who his audience is. I suppose it's just referred to as "YouTube", so we don't hear where the viewers are. If he was on Thai TV, I guess it would be "American star of Thai TV". Certainly, "American TV star" would leave you thinking that it was American TV. Possibly "American YouTuber who produces content in Thailand and has a predominantly Thai audience..." would clear it up, but reporting can be pretty lazy. The internet certainly hasn't done much to improve the quality (or accuracy) of the written word.
  2. Not quite what I would call a "gun aficionado".
  3. It's often the case on this forum. A lot of violent anger wished upon the perpetrator, but little sympathy for the victim.
  4. That's terrible. What a sad situation. I suppose there's a chance things might end up OK, but it seems doubtful. It's such a shame when circumstances cause a child to go off the rails and they throw their future away.
  5. Too many risks and they don't even look good.
  6. By selling it ? I imagine it was part of the scam that if you send that much you'll get the iPad plus all your money back.
  7. Possibly because it is an English language news site that generally caters to foreigners. It's a case of personal interest to know the nationality of the people involved, since it could be locals or it could be foreigners. Most people want to know some details of the events. Sex, age, race, relationship between the victim and the perpetrator, etc.. News is primarily for entertainment, after all.
  8. From the article: Sounds like a story concocted to try to reduce culpability. I wonder what really happened? She rejected him, perhaps?
  9. They know they can get away with it. They're protecting a Thai person and Thai tourism. They have little regard for the Japanese women's welfare.
  10. Is that how we decide the law? "Wouldn't you want revenge if it was your family?" If anyone violently assaulted a member of my family, I may wish to kill them. So is death a suitable punishment for assault?
  11. totally agree ..... she sounds like a nasty piece of work .... she knew this was going on for years and did nothing. Nonsense, read the full article properly, she was not aware of the abuse until she was told by her sister after the child confided in her. Many Thai parents have little time for their children. Add to that the great trust given to "family". It's perfectly possible that if the child showed no obvious "signs", the mother didn't know. Unfortunately, child predators are able to convince their victims that they have a genuine relationship or that something bad will happen to their family if they tell. It could be possible that the uncle "watched" the child regularly and the rest of the family simply thought he was being a good uncle. It would be hard to pass up some free child care from a family member who they believed they could trust. All very sad, but also very common.
  12. How would it be proven true without a trial?
  13. You appear very hostile. I don't wish to be baited into some sort of confrontation.
  14. I find you very hostile. I won't be baited by you. Play games with someone else.
  15. If you don't see how you're being dishonest, I don't think there's anything I could say to make you see sense.
  16. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and it isn't surprising that you're willing to lie to try to shape the narrative and get what you want, but people are going to challenge you, so be ready for that. ????‍♂️
  17. There is no room for facts in the minds of the never-Trumpers. They couldn't care less about what the population thinks or what is best for them. It's simply a case of hating Trump, not that they actually care about the person in power being good.
