Presumably the days of Thailand being a holiday destination will end also... A fantastic idea, you just need to turn it into a premium travel destination first! Stop attracting foreign tourists... hmmm... I'm not sure if that's quite the way to manage tourism in Thailand. The indoctrination that must occur in Thai schools is truly top-notch. For someone to actually say this takes some high-level delusion. Of course, if people want the privilege of being allowed to enter Thailand, they should be made to pay huge sums of cash. Which they obviously will.

Are you actually concerned about the legality, as per your previous comment, or are you simply looking for a way to classify the tweet in a way that pleases you? The reason I ask is that you seem to be following a pattern of what I guess would be called bias. You want the tweet to be bad so you say "it's bad because of this", then someone says it isn't that, to which you then answer, "well it's bad because of this then", looking for a new reason to claim that the tweet is bad.

Not after they make it public. Once you publicly announce something, you cannot then expect that thing to be private. Also that isn't the reason for the suspension.

Like with most of the "this needs to change" initiatives in Thailand, it would take a fundamental change in Thai culture that would need to start with education and probably wouldn't come to fruition until the generations that are now in primary school become adults. Nice idea though...

It would be interesting to see what would happen if she did win. It's almost a win-win situation. If she wins and improves Thailand, great, if she wins and things don't improve, it will silence a lot of Thaksin supporters who say that if he was in charge everything would be better. Many people view it as "If Thaksin was in charge, we would get more money", because that is what has happened in the past, but that money obviously has to come from somewhere and the coffers aren't exactly full right now.

Isn't it likely that a foreigner who stays in Thailand for one year on a "paid for" visa actually contributes more to the economy than a tourist who visits for two weeks? I'm not sure how you cannot see the valid contribution that a person makes simply by renting an apartment, buying food and travelling around. ED visas, Muay Thai visas, it doesn't really matter. They're making a contribution and as long as they generally follow the law, Thailand is better off for having them.

It's more a case of "free extra money from foreigners is expected because they are perceived as rich and the locals resent it", since tipping isn't a normal thing in SEA. We should at least call it what it is, whether we like to do it or not.
