  1. Is this going to be a regular thing? Regular reporting of how awful and criminal foreigners are? I'm sure that won't have any negative effects on foreigners in Thailand. ???? I guess someone needs a distraction.
  2. Where are the parents in all this? Are kids like this able to have relationships with adults without them knowing, or are the parents happy for it to go ahead as long as there's money involved? It feels like stuff like this couldn't happen without multiple people (adults) being aware of it.
  3. I've got the online thing. I can see my NI number, all the years I've paid, along with the ones I've missed. It just never says anything about how to pay.
  4. Geeze, I hope they mean he had his eyes covered with black tape that was wound around his head. Can you be on overstay and then go to immigration and tell them you are a student?
  5. How do you actually pay for missed years? This is something I have never seen explained?
  6. Unfortunately, Labour have characterised themselves as the party of progressive wokeness. This means they have to back anything that has to do with LGBT, diversity, immigration, etc.. So they've kind of backed themselves into a corner, where anything goes. I think that every party should be agreeing to tackle immigration, as it is becoming a big concern.
  7. It's a reference to a Little Britain character who would complain about being "the only gay in the village", yet when anyone suggested that he associate with other gays, or that other people in the village were gay, he would react negatively and refuse to acknowledge them. He would complain about it, but he was clearly very attached to the idea of being the only gay in the village. It's an analogy for someone who wants to be seen as special or individual and is threatened by the presence of others similar to them. I am not accusing you of being gay, nor do I have any issue with gay people.
  8. News is for entertainment and they probably think that it makes it more interesting to describe them in detail. Why say where it was or when it happened? Why say the car park was private? Why not just say that someone was electrocuted somewhere in Thailand recently? Actually, why report it at all? For people who might go to the car park and be in the vicinity of the fence? It doesn't even specify which venue it was. The whole piece is irrelevant.
  9. I think the problem is that "the Thai way" is what causes results as seen in this news story. Say what you want about how grey, sterile and miserable Western countries are in comparison to Thailand, but to disagree with the suggestion that they have far superior road safety and Thailand would benefit from being more like them in this regard would be madness.
  10. This 100%. We've seen the public backlash when someone tries to actually address these types of things. It's always seen as being too harsh, while squats and press-ups as a punishment are celebrated. It's simply part of Thai culture.
  11. How to get from where they are to where they should be though? If you changed the enforcement tomorrow, there would probably be millions out of work within a matter of weeks. Even if you publicised the crackdown well in advance, many/most would simply ignore it as the law is advisory in Thailand and hardly anyone follows it, especially on the roads.
  12. Another "only gay in the village", "more Thai than you" type. Bingo!
  13. It was getting a residence certificate from immigration that I was talking about.
  14. Yeah, I'm not history expert, but it's mostly been back and forth between Burma and Cambodia for Thais. No doubt they would all still be here if either of the other two had won.
  15. That's kind of my point. Nationalism is generally a tool for keeping the masses in line. It isn't done for their benefit. Disliking anything foreign ensures that the only voice the masses listen to are the ones in control. The poor treatment of foreigners is just a kind of side effect.
  16. I think it's more about needing to feel superior to foreigners. Many other countries covert Westerners and the contribution they make to their societies, both financially and intellectually. Often Thai people seem to look down on Westerners when it comes to education, even though they have a very poor education system, and take their custom very much for granted when it comes to tourism, even though they very much need it.
  17. Sounds like a lot of time, effort and cost involved in making a pit-bull a little safer but still a danger. Something most owners are unlikely to do. Better to not have them.
  18. And if it was a pit-bull then she probably would have been killed. ????‍♂️ This kind of proves the point that those against the owning of pit-bulls are making.
  19. Seven people, with at least one weapon, against one disabled man. Shameless.
  20. Not uncommon for them to believe that it's OK to then attack people to defend their "turf" either. I think the problem is that mafia is involved with so many aspects of Thai commerce, mob violence becomes an inevitability in some situations.
  21. Yes. That is what actually happened.
  22. Yup. Quite unpleasant when the Thai Supremacists show themselves with their "rules for thee but not for me". Disappointing. I can understand not wanting land sold off to investors, but at least give the "our ancestors gave their blood" spiel a rest if you have a holiday home in Europe.
