  1. So presumably he won't pay her anything then? Isn't the whole point of paying to make the charges go away?
  2. Not all gun have the purpose of killing.
  3. Covid took a lot of the county's money away, leaving a lot of people living in miserable poverty, while the extra money for subsidies that kept things cheap has gone. Mix that with the change that happened a few years ago and...
  4. So, foreigners shouldn't be welcome anywhere then? Since foreigners, in any country, remain human and do stupid and dangerous things.
  5. No. It varies by location. Just check out the world corruption index.
  6. Is this really only reserved for those two sectors? I'm pretty sure money and family connections play a part in most jobs in Thailand.
  7. Gung-ho means to be over the top enthusiastic. It's generally used as a negative. It can imply that due care is not being taken as a result.
  8. Unfortunately it became "our creepy corrupt old man is better than yours because he is ours". The truth really didn't matter. Biden could have ended each speech with the line "I am exactly like Trump, other than one key difference. I am not Trump." and he would have received a standing ovation every time.
  9. The rest of your comment is nonsense, but I'm glad that you can at least admit that you are wrong.
  10. That is pretty suspicious. Assuming this is the standard white van, you would see the seat behind the driver very, very clearly when you shut the side door.
  11. Not really. It's a matter of fact that he criticised a political figure and not a country. It's a matter of perception as to whether by criticising a political figure he was indirectly criticising a country.
  12. This is simply not true. It depends on the person and it depends what they say. Some Thais could easily think "If even a foreigner thinks that, then maybe it is true", or whatever. Equally, a Thai person living in Germany could make a comment on German politics that makes people change the way they think. The anti-government narrative seen in the last few years, clearly involves young people being influenced by the politics of other countries.
  13. Nobody is a "guest" in Thailand like someone invited to stay in someone's house for free, with all your needs taken care of. Most people (probably all) pay or work to stay in Thailand, so it's more like paying to stay in a hotel. Imagine you're staying in a hotel and you believe that the hotel manager is abusing their staff. You then decide to tell the staff that you think they're being abused and that you support them. It might be completely pointless, and the hotel manager might decide to kick you out of the hotel, but you aren't being some sort of "ungrateful guest" turning on some "generous host" who is paying for your stay.
  14. Get married and have kids. More visa options that way.
  15. Isn't it due to covid? No masks indoors.
  16. I think foreigners shouldn't get involved in Thai politics, but not because they're "guests", don't vote, or whatever. Simply it is unlikely to make a difference and it's quite probable that you will be denied a visa extension at your next application. Very noble, but you really need to take care of yourself, your wife, your family, etc..
  17. Topic 2 is visa agencies which are literally corruption. Topic 1 could be considered to be linked to Thai corruption as the over active bureaucracy is a feature of it.
  18. They're full of the joys of communism. You can detect a real grey soviet misery.
  19. If someone has a real problem with corruption, why would they choose Thailand as their country of interest?
  20. But instead, they choose to try and make things more expensive and laborious, believing that it will make more people want to visit. I think the problem might be that some Thais make the mistake of believing their own face-giving nonsense and think the world will as well. I suppose it's possible that Thailand has actually never found itself in the position where it needed to work to attract tourist. It's never had to before, it has simply enjoyed a constant supply of tourists coming to party and go to the beach, while droning on about how they're going to change it all and attract high-quality tourists to their family friendly resorts. Now the sh*t's hit the fan and all they have to work with is their cockamamy schemes that only serve to pretend that Thailand is something that it is not, and those just aren't going to cut it. They need to admit that they made their fortune on the back of alcohol, prostitutes and cheap beach holidays, then go back to doing that.
  21. That's a heck of a series of events. I wonder how he was able to be trapped, rescued, died of drowning and then injured as well. The truth is that he was injured in the crash, trapped in his car, he drowned, then the rescue services recovered his body.
