Bangkok Police Chief Mediates between Rival Schools
BangkokReady replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It seems bizarre that the schools are not being held directly responsible and made to stop it, or face further consequences. But this is the home of "what can you do?". -
Bangkok Police Chief Mediates between Rival Schools

I thought 10-1 was the required ratio in order for these types to feel brave enough to cautiously run in, savagely beat one unsuspecting victim with weapons, then immediately run away. Impressive. -

It's so strange, because Thai education supposedly has a reputation of being super-strict. It seems that the strictness is more around respecting seniors and following cultural norms, uniform, etc.. Then when it comes to actual behaviour the students seem to be allowed to run riot and the "don't offend anyone or make them feel bad" suddenly comes into play. It makes me worried about the future of Thailand. If the youth continue to demand more "rights", but fail to be given more responsibility, where is it going to end? Some sort of child-led dystopia perhaps... -
Too many people ignore this and pretend that corruption happens only in Police and other government agencies, while the rest of the population are honest and hard working victims of corruption. The truth is, you aren't going to end corruption if you cannot admit that it permeates all levels of Thai society and all of Thailand needs to work to change it.

How True is "the smiles are fake"?
BangkokReady replied to Brian Nose's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
So if a tree smiles in a wood, but no one is there to perceive that smile as meaning the tree is hot for them, does it make a sound? -

Thais smile for many reasons. They even have different names for the different types of smile. If you think that a "real" smile is defined as involuntary and a sign of being happy or pleased to see someone, then yes, a lot of Thai smiles will be fake. -

So if someone smiles a genuine smile of being pleased to see someone, but that someone believes that the smile means the smiler is hot for them, it renders the smile fake, but only in the mind of the smile beholder? The smile would still objectively be a genuine smile though, right? -
I thought the same thing. Maybe the old Thai "don't get involved in anyone else's business" meant that a woman's screams coming from a house were quite normal and generally ignored. It might be more likely that the bathroom didn't have a window, as they explained that she was deep inside the house. A bit weird but it does happen.

It's called "negging". You look into her mouth with an expression of "What the <deleted> is that thing? Ew!" Then you maybe waft the air a little like her breath smells. This makes her feel insecure, so when she stops talking you say "It's really clever of you to figure that out all by yourself." Because of the negging, this complement will make her want you.

That guys a complete fruit cake. Clearly racists against non-Thais, particularly Whites. I think he's British but non-White. Anything negative about Thailand or Thai people and the toys go straight out of the pram. "This happens in Western countries as well!" "You're racist, that's why you're saying this!" "Why is this news being shared?!!" You name it, he'll try and use it to defend Thailand from any criticism or negativity, no matter how true or mundane. He even defended and justified a foreigner being attacked for not buying a Thai a beer. I'm genuinely surprised that he can effectively say "I don't like racists" while clearly being extremely racist.

When is it going to be after covid though? When are they due back?
-
They killed the golden goose and now they're just standing over the corpse wondering why the golden eggs have stopped appearing. Thailand got way too used to the extra tourist money; allowing skimming off the top and keeping people happy through subsidisation. Once covid hit, they really needed to realise what is happening and change their tactics. Seemingly overnight, the money they skimmed was suddenly most of the money and the subsidies dried up. If tourism got back to pre-covid levels overnight, then maybe things would be OK. But that isn't happening.

Thai people definitely have an issue around expressing emotions. They appear completely fearless when it comes to things like singing or dancing, but other things, that would seem everyday for us, terrify them. Also, there's the "relationships are more like a business agreement than about love and feelings" angle. They're probably griping about exes because they made them lose face or they are resentful, therefore no real shame in complaining.
